My FAQs usually covers unknown games by the most part of gamers, but fun and addictive in fact. This time, my FAQ is about Sorcerian. In fact, it is a very unique and addictive game, and it turns really fun when you know HOW to play. Sorcerian is the kind of game that casual players would throw off without ever passing through the Main Menu (saddly, it is fully in Japanese), but hardcore japanese RPG fans (Well, I think I am one), would enjoy the experience. I hope this FAQ will clear all of your doubts and help you pass through the game, although it is not a walkthrough. This FAQ was made using the Genesis version of Sorcerian, and I do not know if you can use the tips with any other Sorcerian game, since I never played any other version but the Genesis version. Well, I hope it does. Now, enjoy reading! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2 - Main Menu =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You need to set your party before enter in a dungeon, and all the navigation in Sorcerian are made through the Main Menu. This is the very first menu you will see when you start a new game. Bellow is a translation of the main menu, based in the IPS patch accessible at [http://naflign.dhs.org:8080/ego/sorc.html], and the english version of Sorcerian, released by Sierra for PC. +---------------------------------------+ | | | 1 7 | | | | 2 8 | | 3 9 | | 4 10 | | 5 11 | | | | 6 12 | | | | 13 | | | +---------------------------------------+ 1 - Start Adventure ------------------- This is self-explanative, isn't it? Just choose a mission to go. 2 - View Party -------------- See the status of every character from your active group. 3 - Organise Party ------------------ Select a character from the characters list to use in your battle. You have to choose only 4 characters for your active group. 4 - Disband Party ----------------- Here you will dissolve your party. After that, get a new party in the option 3. 5 - Go to Town -------------- You will be presented with the characters of the CHARACTERS list. By selecting one of them, you will be presented to this menu: BOB GUILD - Buy Weapon and Armor ESTHERS CABIN - Buy Magic CHEMISTS SHOP - Buy Items ORDERS TEMPLE - Church ELDER PREMISES - ??? CASTLE - See a quick review about the status of your character TRIAL FIELD - Strategic Battles. You can earn gold and experience points in these strategic (menu-only based) battles, but you can die too! 6 - Save Characters ------------------- Save your game in one of the three different slots. You can load your saved game in the option 12. 7 - Advance Time ---------------- Self-explanative. 8 - View Stats -------------- Self-explanative. 9 - Create Character -------------------- Here you will create a character which will be posted at the characters list. You will need to set his/her name, job, sex, attributes (with bonus points) and age. If you hit the B Button while the cursor is up the AGE, you will increase the age of your character and the bonus points too. You can only have a maximum of 10 Characters present at your group. 10 - Delete Character --------------------- You will be presented with the characters of the characters list. Delete which one you want to. 11 - Character Ocupation ------------------------ DUEL CRYSTY GOLCUS IRENA (Character Edited by Player - Default is blank space) (Character Edited by Player - Default is blank space) (Character Edited by Player - Default is blank space) (Character Edited by Player - Default is blank space) (Character Edited by Player - Default is blank space) (Character Edited by Player - Default is blank space) EXIT In this submenu, choosing any of the characters, you will then be presented to a screen with several diferent jobs that you can get. Bellow goes the list for the PC version (released by Sierra), but I believe it works with the Genesis version too: +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Farmer Fisherman Fortune-Teller | | Driver Carpenter Mine Worker | | Writer Sculptor Fabric Maker | | Spinner Blacksmith Translator | | Singer Pharmacist Charcoal Burner | | Thief Woodcutter Bamboo Worker | | Priest Missionary Ferry Man | | Merchant Mortician Herb Picker | | Sailor Body Guard Sheperd Boy | | Fighter Minstrel Grave Keeper | | Clown Alchemist Housekeeper | | Barber Wine Maker Horse Trainer | | Cook Mercenary Jewelry Artist | | Hunter Grinder Basket Maker | | Shaman Beggar Stone Mason | | Exorcist Dancer Shoe Maker | | Spy Florist Stuffed Toy Maker | | Doctor Locksmith Bowmaker, Bowyer | | Nurse Midwife Cheese Maker | | Baker Tailor Hair Dresser | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Well, I hope it helps :) Some jobs are really weird. Who would care about a Hair Dresser? Do you want to be the most handsome man in the fight? Or who would care about a Clown? Do you want to laugh before a fight?? The Dancer is weird too, but there are Dancers in other games, as well... +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Note that you MUST have exp. points in order to change the class of your CHR.| +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ As you move the cursor around the jobs, you will see a window in the bottom left of the screen. It says: [Highlited Job Name] annual income is [XX] GP. 12 - Load Slot -------------- Here you need to select a slot to save your game, or load a slot with a saved characeter. 13 - Revive Group ----------------- Here you can revive your dead characters. I believe it has no cost at all :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3 - Basic Gameplay =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Controls -------- Menus ===== D-pad - Move through the options A Button - Nothing B Button - Cancel/Back C Button - Accept Inside a Side-scroll Mission ============================ D-pad LEFT and RIGHT - Move around D-pad UP - Jump D-pad UP (in front of a door) - Open the door (some doors need keys to be opened) D-pad DOWN - Move down to a well in one of the stages (works as a door) Start Button - Menu A Button - Change leader of the row B Button - Magical Attack C Button - Physical Attack Starting a new game =================== o First choose a slot at the option 12. o Create a character at the option 9, if you want to. o Set your group at the option 3. o Go to Town (option 5), buy items and practice at the TRIAL FIELD, if you want to. o Choose a Mission in the option 1. A1 - It is simple, you just need to get an emulator and the ROM of this game. You can get both at [http://www.planetemu.net] Q2 - Are there IPS patches for this game? A2 - Yes, there are one, but only the main menu is translated. You can get the patch at [http://naflign.dhs.org:8080/ego/sorc.html]. This site holds a patched version of Sorcerian, if you do not know how to apply the patch. Q3 - How can I apply the patch? A3 - You will have to have three things: the ROM, the patch and a program called snestool. You can get snestool at [http://fly.to/babel]. Now, let's patch the game. First, you have to left the patch and the ROM at the same diretory of the snestool program. So, you have to load snestool program and choose USE IPS option. Select the IPS patch, the ROM (the ROM have to be at the BIN format), and you are done. Now, just load the game through an emulator. If the ROM is in the SMD format, you will need the program UCON to convert it to the binary format (BIN). Sorry, but I do not know where you can get it... Q4 - Will you write a Walkthrough for this game? A4 - No. Q5 - Are there any other Sorcerian games? A5 - Yes, there are. bellow are some additional info about them: Sorcerian (PC Version) ---------------------- This is the only version of Sorcerian in english. This game was released by Sierra in 1989, and it looks like the Genesis version of Sorcerian, but it features worse graphics and less missions. Sorcerian (Mega Drive/Genesis) ------------------- This is the version you are playing now (as you got this walkthrough, I hope it is true). It was released by Falcom, only in Japan, in 1992. Sorcerian: Apprentice of Seven Star Magic (Dreamcast) ----------------------------------------------------- This is a 3D version of Sorcerian, but it still features the side-scroll style (For God Sakes!). But, as far as I could read about it (I never played this game), the graphics have a very low quality, and seems like Playstation made graphics... Sorcerian Forever ----------------- I was told that this is a remake of the original PC version, but I never ever heard anything about it. Sorcerian (Turbo Graf-X/PC Engine) ---------------------------------- I was told that Sorcerian was also released for Turbo Graf-X, but I do not know nothing about it (I just hope this FAQ works with this version, too). Romancia (Famicom/NES) ---------------------- This game was relesed in 1986 by Nihon Falcon, in Japan, and as it seems, this game was some kind of prequel to Sorcerian series! The graphic style and the gameplay are identical to Sorcerian games, and the overal feeling of this game is like playing a game from Sorcerian series. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5 - Copyright, Thanks and End Notes =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This FAQ is a Copyright of Simon (Thiago Simões), and you are NOT allowed to translate, post it at your site or any other media-vehicle without my consent, rewrite this FAQ and sell this to ANYBODY.
