Contact me at falsehead@aol.com Copyright stuff; If you wish to use this FAQ on your website, feel free to do so under the following conditions. a) You email me first and let me know where it will be appearing and b) you do not alter the content in anyway (if you need to change the formatting slightly for display purposes that's OK). If I find out that any part of this FAQ has been lifted and used without credit to me, especially if you use it to earn money, then I will be annoyed. I didn't type all this up for the good of my health you know. In compiling this guide to the Tekken Storyline I have used several sources, which include magazines, websites and the games themselves. I've also used material on Tekken and Martial Arts from my own site. Basically I've just tried to bring all the existing material together in one concise document. I hope this will be of specific interest to people who came to Tekken with the PS2 games Tekken Tag Tournament and now Tekken 4. The following websites provided valuable data - www.namco.com www.namcoarcade.com www.tekken.net As did the following magazines - Official UK Playstation Magazine - Beat 'em Ups Special (UK 1999) Tekken 3 Playstation Strategy Guide (UK 1998) Also - Tekken the Movie (1998) This animated version of the events of Tekken 2 is not entirely faithful to the games plotline, but it provide a useful background to the Mishima family relationships, Dr. Boskonovitch, Jun Kazama and Roger and Alex. I am very keen on making this the most accurate and definitive history of Tekken ever written. I would welcome any questions, contributions and even points disagreeing with me from anyone. As the story has progressed to its fourth "proper" installment, character relationships have become so complex that players new to the series are understandably confused as to who is related to who. Who has a grudge against who and why and many other questions that are unrelated to the actual mechanics of the game. I personally love the convoluted twists and turns the Tekken story has taken over the years and think that's its adds a lot more depth to the game its self to know so much about them. Purists may disagree with me, but I know from questions asked me by newbies to the Tekken series that there is a demand for a comprehensive guide to the games storyline. I have a large part of my own website devoted to the Tekken series and regularly get emails about the characters and also about the Martial Arts they use. So I have included a mini guide to the martial arts of Tekken at the end of this document. I have split this guide into sections. Firstly I have compiled a sort of "Official History" of the King of Iron Fist Tournament, from the first Tekken right up to Tekken 4. Then I have looked at every character to appear in the Tekken series and provided them with a full summary of their progress through the various games. I have also included an examination of the characters endings in each game. Some of these endings directly contradict events in other endings and so I have analyzed each one and given my opinion as to whether or not that ending DID happen, or if it was a kind of "parallel" universe ending - something not picked up later in the series. Finally I have included a PLOT FAQ to basically explain my reasoning behind my interpretations of the plot and the evidence I used to make those assumptions. As a bonus I've also written a Martial Arts of Tekken guide. This is response to many emails I got to my own website concerning the various systems used by the characters in the game. I hope you find it interesting! ************************************************************************* Contributor Data - I was totally amazed at the feedback I got. Not everyone wanted a credit but I have to thank the following people. Dave B - for his excellent guide to Vale Tudo, which I had only covered briefly in the first version. Thanks for opening my eyes to this new fighting system. Hay - for systematically going through the whole guide and pointing out several typo's and errors as well as showing me areas where my Martial Arts Guide could be made clearer and improved. Cybertrooper - for giving me more information on several of the Martial Arts styles. XxOrochiFlamexX - for keeping me updated in the latest Time Release Characters and adding some alternate ideas about the fate of Lee Chaolan. Rob Gallimore - For some excellent info on TKD and some Tekken triva. Apollo Latimer - for lots of info on Tekken Tag Tournament John Bass - For his thoughtful ideas about Jun and Kazuya's relationship. ************************************************************************** REVISIONS - Version 1 (29/07/2001): First version. Have covered all PSX Tekken's. Also added ten characters worth of info for Tekken 4 and the storyline. Version 1.5 (05/09/2001): Added info for two time-release characters, Jin Kazama and "Violet". Added much more Vale Tudo info to Martial Arts FAQ and corrected some mistakes and made some stuff clearer. Also have altered Lee Chaolans entry in anticipation of him being revealed as Violet. Version 1.6 (20/09/2001): Added info for Nina, the next time-release character. Am also planning an Alternate Viewpoints for the next update. "Violet" confirmed as Lee Chaolan by XxOrachiFlamexX. Version 1.7 (27/09/2001): Added updated Tekken 4 info for Lei Wulong and Bryan Fury. Put some alternate viewpoints from FAQ readers in the "My Reasoning" part of the guide. Also added new info to mini martial arts guide - the Capoeira and Tae Kwon Do sections. Version 1.8 (10/10/2001): Added updated Tekken 4 info for Julia Chang and Kuma/Panda. Version 1.9 (20/10/2001): Added a Tekken Tag Tournament section to the Alternative Viewpoints part of the FAQ. Version 2.0 (01/11/01): Added profile for Combot and updated Lee Chaolan and Heihachi's profiles with new Tekken 4 information. Version 2.1 (28/03/2002): Well the PS2 version of Tekken 4 has finally come out in Japan. I haven't got access to the final FMV scenes yet but will start posting them as soon as I do. If you want to send me information and your thoughts on these endings, please do, but I am unlikely to contract definitive assessment of them until the US version is released. In the meantime I have added extensive info on Tekken Tag Tournament, which has just got a platinum/budget range release, as well as some more interesting theories from my email. On the subject of emails, I always and try and answer everything I get sent (if its not dumb flame mail). But occasionally when I am away and using AOL Anywhere it likes to lose or delete my messages, so apologies if you wrote and never got a reply. Please feel free to write to me again! Version 3.0 (9/11/2002): I just saw how long it was since I last updated, been too long! For reasons that are too boring to get into I only got my hands on the PS2 version of Tekken 4 in the last week or so. It was worth the wait though =) So I have now added all the characters featured in Tekken 4's endings to there biogs. Now you have probably noticed that with Tekken 4 each character is shown after to win the tournament. Well they can't all have won it, so I have added a new section called "Tekken 5??" This is a forum for me to keep tabs on news about the next installment, cogitate about what plot lines I think it will follow and also launch my campaign for the return of Gun Jack! Also check out the other new section "Tekken for Dummies", which is a meant as a quick overview of the series for new and confused players. ======================================================================== ***************** THE STORY OF THE IRON FIST TOURNAMENT **************** ======================================================================== I have not included Tekken Tag Tournament in the story guide as it is considered by Namco to be outside of the Tekken Story canon. Merely a "greatest hits" updated compilation of characters from the 32 bit games. It has its own section later in the guide. But this guide is intended to explain the characters back-story so would be of great help to those confused by all the new characters (if they had only played Tekken 3 before) and their relationships to each other. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************** a) TEKKEN - The story begins.... ******************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A worldwide martial arts competition was announced, the "Tekken" or Iron Fist tournament. A large purse of prize money, which was to be awarded to the fighter who could defeat Heihachi Mishima in the final round provided incentive for warriors from all over the globe to enter. Financed and sponsored by the giant financial groups, the Mishima Zaibatsu (Financial Empire) - of which Heihachi was the head of - the first Tekken tournament began with sixteen fighters, all with different motives for entering the championship. * Paul Phoenix - American Judo fighter, in the tournament to prove he is the best fighter of all. * Kazuya Mishima - Son of Heihachi, a karate champ intent on taking over the old man's business empire. * Michelle Chang - Native American fist fighter. Heihachi's men trashed her village and killed her father, she seeks revenge. * Nina Williams - Irish assassin and master of Hapkido. Out to kill Kazuya. * Marshall Law - The Jeet Kune Do master, out to win the title. * King - Mysterious Mexican wrestler, who hides under a jaguar mask. * Yoshimitsu - Ninja warrior out to earn big prize money. * Jack - Russian Cyborg sent by the Russians to kill Heihachi * Kuma - a big bear who hates Paul * Ganryu - dishonourable sumo hired by Heihachi. * Anna Williams - another Hapkido fighter, and arch rival to her sister. * Lee Chaolan - Heihachi's adopted son. Master of JKD and karate. * Wang Jinery - Old Chinese man, friend to Heihachi's father. * Kunimitsu - Rival of Yoshimitsu and also a master ninja. After Michelles ancestral treasure. * Amour King - Kings mentor and sparring partner. * P.Jack - Heihachi's Jack Cyborg, in the tournament to take out Jack. Many battles were fought. But only one warrior emerged with the right to challenge Heihachi Mishima for the title King of the Iron Fists. This warrior was Kazuya Mishima, Heihachi's long lost son. Bearing the scar across his chest given to him by Heihachi, he enters into vicious combat with his father on the same field where Heihachi had struck down his own son and dropped him over a cliff at the age of eight. After a gruelling battle, which raged on for hours, Kazuya emerged victorious. His skill augmented by the power of the devil he accepted inside him at an early age. As Heihachi's broken body lay on the ground, Kazuya dropped to his knees and slowly lifted his father into his arms. Walked slowly to the edge of the same cliff where his father had left him to die, he gently let go of his father's body. As Heihachi's body plummeted out of sight, Kazuya's smile gleamed in the sunlight... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ******************** b) TEKKEN 2 - Heihachi's Revenge ****************** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ One year has passed. The Mishima Zaibatsu (conglomerate) under Kazuya's leadership has become even more powerful with its tendrils reaching to all corners of the world. Soon after his father's apparent death, Kazuya disappears into the shadows. However, rumours of his immense power, and a dark side, slowly begin to spread throughout the world. Exactly one year after the end of the first Tekken, a message is relayed from the Mishima Zaibatsu fortress to news agencies all over the world announcing a second tournament with a prize a thousand times that of the first. So begins the tournament... all the previous fighters had returned and were joined by some new faces. * Lei Wulong - Hong Kong Cop on the trail of Bruce Irvin. Lei is a skilled Kung Fu fighter and has a huge array of moves. * Jun Kazama - Bushido fighter sent to investigate the Mishima Corporation. * Baek Do San - Tae Kwon Do fighter sent by Kazuya to trash Marshall's dojo. * Bruce Irvin - Corrupt cop and kick-boxing champion. * Roger and Alex - A boxing kangaroo and dinosaur. * Devil/Angel - the manifestations of the light and dark sides of Kazuya's nature The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2 Draws to a close. Jun Kazama comes to the stunning realization that Kazuya's supernatural strength stems from Devil. But she cannot help being drawn to him, propelled by a mystic force beyond her control [hmm]. Several days later, the final challenger arrives to face Kazuya, the organizer of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2. It's Heihachi. In a reprise of the first Tekken Tournament, the father and son clash in a vicious battle. Eventually, Heihachi emerges scarred but victorious to regain control of the immense Mishima Conglomerate. Unaware of Devil's presence, Heihachi casts the lifeless Kazuya into a fiery volcano. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ******************* c) TEKKEN 3 - The Next Generation.**************** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- As Kazuya's body burns, the Devil appears before the pregnant Jun Kazama in a bid to enter the soul of the new life beating within her. But in a desperate struggle for the future of her child, Jun defeats Devil and retires to desolate Yakushima to raise Kazuya's son, Jin, alone. Having regained control of the Mishima Conglomerate, Heihachi sets about to further increase his powers. He embarks on a crusade to win the trust of world leaders by putting wars and conflicts to rest. Using his immeasurable wealth, he forms Tekkenshu, a mercenary group employed to quell conflicts efficiently. He also takes a strong interest in the well being of developing nations by helping them build agricultural systems that will sustain them. Through Heihachi's efforts, the world appears to be regaining peace. Around fifteen years have passed and Jin Kazama is now 15 years old. Under Heihachi's orders, the Tekkenshu (Tekken Force) are excavating a Central American archaeological site when they discover a mysterious life form. Heihachi orders the creature's capture, but loses contact with the Tekkenshu after a garbled radio message, "... they are all dead... Toshin (Fighting God)?!..." Upon arriving at the dig, Heihachi finds a field of corpses. Heihachi is wracked by sorrow, but also realizes that the power of the mysterious life form could be the key to his long dormant dream of world domination. To obtain this mysterious power of Toshin (Ogre), and the world, Heihachi tempts the fates once again... Within weeks, strange disappearances occur throughout the world. Persons of strong soul, masters of martial arts and other derivative fighting disciplines are reported missing... with no knowledge of their whereabouts. Baek Do-San, King, Lee Chaolan and Wang Jinery are just some of the fighters who have disappeared. Jin Kazama is now a young man of 15. Though he and his mother Jun live peacefully in the mountains, her intuition warns of impending danger. She tells Jin of a tremendous power seeking their lives. Jun explains the story of his father, grandfather and the Tekken Tournaments. Fearful of the future she tells Jin to go to Heihachi if anything should happen to her. One dark and stormy night, Jun's fears are proved correct. Ogre comes to the mountains on a chill wind. The last thing Jin hears before losing consciousness are his mothers words.. "Run, run far away!". Next morning Jin wakes up in the wreckage of their house. Everything is burned up and Jun is nowhere to be found. Jun has died at Ogre's hands. Honouring her instructions, Jin goes to Heihachi and begs to be trained in order exact revenge. Heihachi, hearing Jin's tale, is convinced that Ogre is after the souls of powerful fighters. To attract Ogre, Heihachi decides to host the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. Four years later, on Jin Kazama's 19th birthday, the curtains rise for the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. Heihachi decides to use him as bait to entice out Ogre so he could then use a pendant owned by Michelle Chang to control it. (Michelle had recently disappeared on a visit to Heihachi). Old names Nina and Anna reappear after having been frozen by scientist Dr. B. They awaken 19 years later still in their early twenties, Nina now missing her memory. Paul Phoenix and Lei Wulong, both in their forties also return to settle old scores. Yoshimitsu is out for Ogres blood to help Dr. B cure himself, but the rest of the cast is made up a unfamiliar faces. * Jin Kazama - Karate fighter and son of Kazuya and Jun. After revenge for his mothers death. * Hwoarang - Student of Baek, a Tae Kwon Do fighter out to avenge his master and get back at Jin who beat him in a fight. * Julia Chang - Adopted daughter of Michelle, out to investigate her mothers disappearance. * Kuma 2 - Son of the original Kuma who also hates Paul. * Ling Xiaoyu - Barmy 16 year old Chinese master of Wu Shu. Heihachi will build her a theme park if she wins. * Eddy Gordo - Brazilian Capoeira fighter. Suspects the Mishima corporation may help him find out who killed his dad. * King 2 - Orphan raised by the original King, out to avenge his death. * Gon - Stumpy little dragon out to prove it's toughness. * Forest Law - son of Marshall. Out to win some cash and glory * Gun Jack - combination of Jack 2 and P.Jack. Jane wants to find his human program so Gun Jack enters the tournament to get it. * Bryan Fury - Undead police Officer. Being chased down by Lei, he was killed then bought back to life by Doctor Abel. Under Dr. Abels command he is targeting Yoshmitsu. * Mokujin - a training dummy come to life. Its motives are unknown. * Dr Boskonovitch - Ethically dubious scientist out to retrieve Ogres blood to cure his daughter and himself. Froze Nina and Anna after Tekken 2. * Ogre - the god of fighting who transforms into True Ogre as the final boss. Jin Kazama defeats Heihachi and then destroys Ogre and True Ogre. Angry that Ogre had been destroyed Heihachi gunned down Jin. Unfortunately this triggered the emergence of the diabolical powers of his father Kazuya. Sprouting wings he transformed into a devil and flew away...leaving Heihachi to reflect on his failure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ***************** d) TEKKEN 4 - Kazuya is back.. again ***************** ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Two years ago, Heihachi failed to capture Ogre. Not willing to give up, Heihachi ordered his researchers to collect blood samples, skin tissue, and hoof fragments left behind by Ogre (known as True Ogre in its true manifestation) in order to conduct genetic experiments. Heihachi's goal was to create a new life form by splicing Ogre's genome with his own. However, the research was unsuccessful. After extensive experimentation, Heihachi's bioengineers came to the conclusion that an additional gene - the Devil Gene - was necessary in order to successfully splice Ogre's genetic code into another living organism. Heihachi learned that his own genome lacked the Devil Gene, but he knew someone who did...Jin Kazama. Jin's whereabouts were unknown after the events of Tekken 3. Heihachi searched for Jin to no avail. However, Heihachi discovered a photograph during his investigation that stirred his curiosity. The 20-year-old photograph was an image of a burnt corpse covered with laceration wounds. Heihachi paid particular attention to the corpse's back, which had what looked like deformed, protruding wing-like limbs. Convinced that the picture was of Kazuya, his own son whom he threw into a volcano 20 years ago, Heihachi diverted all his resources into a search for the body. This search eventually led Heihachi to G Corporation, a leading-edge biotech firm making unprecedented advances in the field of biogenetics research. Heihachi discovered that G Corporation found the corpse and extracted and analysed its genetic data. In fact, Heihachi learned that the company was in the midst of creating a new life form by using the data. Heihachi also determined that Kazuya's remains and research data were secured at G Corporation's Nebraska and Nepal research laboratories, respectively. Friday, 25 December. The Tekken Force raided G Corporation's maximum-security research laboratory in Nepal. The bottom floors of the building were obliterated, and the remaining data storage facility containing file servers was airlifted by a group of heavy-duty helicopters. At the same time, a separate unit led by Heihachi infiltrated the underground research facility in Nebraska, where Kazuya's remains were preserved. As Heihachi observed from his helicopter, he soon realized that unlike the Nepal facility, the operations in Nebraska were not going according to plan. The tactical status monitor screens showed the first wave of the Tekken Force troops being blown out from the storage room where Kazuya's remains were supposedly kept. A silhouette of a large figure slowly emerged from the room... When Heihachi could see clearly enough, he instantly recognized the large figure as Kazuya. Kazuya was resurrected in G Corporation's research facility. After his resurrection, Kazuya offered his body as research material to determine the true nature of the Devil that resided within him. Kazuya's goal was to unify his two selves into one. Kazuya theorized that if he unified his body with the Devil, he would be able to truly harness its powers. He could then finally take revenge against Heihachi and the Mishima Zaibatsu (Financial Empire). Enraged that Heihachi thwarted his plans, Kazuya obliterated the heavily armed Tekken Force and vanished into the flames of the lab's wreckage. Heihachi was infuriated by Kazuya's escape and took out his anger on his hapless subordinates who reported the escape. Dr. Abel, now Heihachi's lead scientific advisor, urged the enraged Heihachi to quickly find a way to capture Kazuya. Once his anger subsided, Heihachi focused his mind and decided on a plan. An evil smile crept upon his lips. Two years had passed since The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. The Mishima Zaibatsu announced The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 and placed the massive financial empire as the top prize. The champion who manages to defeat Heihachi at the end of the Tournament would inherit the Mishima Zaibatsu. Well aware that the tournament is just a trap designed to lure him out, Kazuya nevertheless enters - it is his chance to defeat Heihachi... To be furthered........ The combatants are: INITIAL LINE UP - * King - wishes to avenge the death of Armour King * Paul Phoenix - wishes to recapture his lost glory * Christie Monteiro - Capoeira fighter trained by Eddy and now investigating his disappearance. * Steve Fox - Boxer on the run from the mafia and in search of his lost past * Ling Xiayou - Warned by Jin about Heihachi's interest in her, enters to uncover the truth behind Jin's disappearance. * Marshall Law - Like Paul, also out to recapture his lost glory * Craig Marduk - Vale Tudo fighter. After he killed Armour King in a brawl, he was invited anonymously to enter the tournament. * Yoshimitsu - Entering to win the big prize with the goal of merging the Mishima Corporation with his Manji Clan. * Kazuya - Raised from the dead, he can't resist entering to kick his father's butt. See the Tekken 5?? Section for thoughts on which plot line will be used to tie up Tekken 4 and launch the next game. ======================================================================= ******************** 3) THE CHARACTERS IN-DEPTH *********************** ======================================================================= For each character I have traced their history though the Tekken games and analysed their endings. I have given my opinion on whether or not each ending happened and also tried to tie up some loose ends left by the gaps between the games. I have tried to confirm all the information from Official Namco material, but when I have made a conjecture of my own I have clearly stated this fact. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ********************** a) Dr. Boskonovitch **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Prologue: Dr. Boskonovitch was a leading scientist of the former USSR. At the age of 12, he designed a new type of ballistic missile, and instantly became famous in the scientific world. After losing his own daughter, Boskonovitch has been doing research on human resurrections and cold-sleep machines. Through these experiments, he became active in cloning and the creation of androids, such as Jack. In these projects he worked with Dr. Abel, but he disliked Abel, who he regarded as power-hungry and dangerous. He works only to revive his daughter and is willing to go to any lengths to achieve that goal. However he had some qualms about the use his Jack Androids were been put to. He buried inside one of these droids a "humanity" programme, the idea being that in situations of extreme stress the Jack's would gain morality and could not act as indiscriminate killing machines. After the first King of Iron Fist tournament, he was captured by Kazuya Mishima and was forced to do genetic research pertaining to martial artists and genetically engineered android soldiers. However his first experiments resulted in the fighting Kangaroo and Raptor, Roger and Alex. More research under the watchful eye of Lee Chaolan resulted in more ferocious reptile fighters. However, during this time he was also able to created a new type of cold-sleep machine. During the second Iron Fist Tournament he saved Yoshimitsu's life and gave him a new biomechanical arm. In return for this Boskonovitch himself was saved from the Mishimas by Yoshimitsu. TEKKEN 3: Now, Boskonovitch is infected with a mysterious disease. In order to cure himself and to revive his daughter, he needs the blood of the fighting god. He is the only man in the world who knows the truth behind the mysterious fighting god in this tournament. He asks Yoshimitsu to help him out and Yoshimitsu agrees to enter to gain Ogres Blood, but to increase his chances he also enters. ENDING: After Jin splattered True Ogre all over the place, they were able to gain a sample of Ogres Blood. Taking it back to Boskonovitch secret lab they test it out on a rat to see its effects. The rat grows to humoungous size! Clearly it is potent stuff...maybe Dr. B can use it's power to realise the dream of reviving his daughter and curing himself... [This ending happened] TEKKEN 4: Dr Boskonavitch is not a combatant in Tekken 4, but he appears in Bryan Furys end movie. He and Yoshimitsu plan to use Bryan in their fight against Dr. Abel. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************* b) Julia Chang ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: Julia studies archaeology in Michelle Chang's tribal lands. As a baby, Julia was deserted in the ruins of ancient Native American settlements, where Michelle found her. Michelle rescued Julia and brought her up with love. Julia loved Michelle and her adopted tribe and trained with Michelle to protect her beloved homeland. When Julia was 18, stories of sudden disappearances of famous martial artists all over the world began to reach the tribe. The tribe knew the cause, which was contained in the tribal legends...the legend of the God of Fighting. People in the tribe feared that Michelle's pendant, the key to a Native American sacred treasure, had something to do with the disappearances. With apprehension spreading through the tribe, Michelle left for Japan to ask Heihachi why he had sought to take the pendant during the second tournament. Michelle hoped to learn about the origin of the God of Fighting's power. Michelle did not return. Julia suspected Heihachi and now seeks him out to discover the truth. ENDING: Julia beats Ogre, but leaves before Ogre transforms. She is still worried about what has become of her mother and calls frantically for her. Michelle staggers out of the temple where the fight took place. She has recovered the pendant - the treasure of her people - that Heihachi wanted to use to control Ogre. Angrily Julia shouts, "I'll never let Heihachi get away with this!" But Michelle has also seen how hatred can warp a good soul though the previous Tekken Tournaments. Reminding Julia that it is better to protect life and not destroy, they return to their tribal home in Arizona. [This ending happened] TEKKEN 4: Two years have past since the destruction of Ogre. Julia was now a college student studying archaeology. One day, she discovered that her native homeland was in danger of being covered by an encroaching desert; this was brought on by today's rapidly changing global ecosystem. Julia wanted to save her home, and she began her studies on ecosystem restoration. Julia joined an advanced genetic research group led by Professor T that studied the biological mechanism of reforestation. Professor T's research grant came almost exclusively from G Corporation. In fact, G Corporation's supercomputers located at their high security research center were used for computationally intensive biogenetic analysis and ecosystem modeling. All their project data was stored on G Corporation's file servers as well. Julia was absorbed in her daily research, waiting for the day when her work on ecosystem restoration would be complete. When her project was completed, she would save her home. One day, Julia learned from Professor T that their project was on hold indefinitely. The Mishima Zaibatsu attacked G Corporation's high security research center and stole all their project data. Julia didn't know a thing about G Corporation's secret research projects nor did she care about them. Yet she knew that she had to retrieve her data from the Mishima Zaibatsu in order to save her home from becoming a desert in a few years time. Julia searched the net to gather information regarding the Mishima Zaibatsu. Her eyes lit up when she saw a web page announcing The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. ENDING: "Julia won the tournament and took over Mishima Zaibatsu. She gained access not only to her lost research material but also to Mishima Zaibatsu's cutting edge technology including the G-Corporations research data. Julia's hopes for reforestation grew" Sat in the lab Julia comes cross the Genocell data. Genocell was created from her data on making a biological organism that can quickly reforest barren landscapes. But she makes the disturbing discovery that this is not the only use it has. Dr. Abel appears behind her and explains that Genocell can be used to stabilise a combination of the human and devil genes. Without Genocell the devil genes destroyed the humans ones, but altogether they would create super human creatures. Julia is shocked by this revelation and ignores Dr. Abels pleas to join him in his research. She makes the decision to delete all her research data on Genocell. Enraged Dr. Abel fires upon her but she nimbly avoids him. With the data destroyed, she returns to the USA vowing to find another way to reforest her beloved home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- *********************** c) Michelle Chang ***************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Michelle Chang is a young Native American girl, who lives in a small village with her mother and father. Her father is an archaeologist studying Native American Legends relating to amongst other things, The Legend of the God of Fight. On an excavation he recovers a pendant which would seem to be related to this legend. Unfortunately Heihachi gets to hear about this and sends his men to Michelle's village. They trash the place and kill her father. But they do no recover the pendant, Michelle's Father gave it to her for safe keeping. Vowing revenge, Michelle enters the First Iron Fist tournament. During the tournament she is targeted by the mysterious Ninja, Kunimitsu, who has also heard of the pendant. Michelle Chang beats the snot out of Kunimitsu, unfortunately she does not make to Heihachi before Kazuya lobs him over a cliff. Still she feels some satisfaction at the outcome and returns home. ENDING: Michelle approaches her village where her Mother waits for her. [This happened] TEKKEN 2: After Tekken, Kunimitsu told Kazuya about the power of Michelle's pendant. Kazuya decides he would like to see this pendant himself and try and unlock the secret of the God of Fight. He sends Ganryu over to kidnap Michelle's Mother. Michelle returns home and finds her home wrecked and her mother gone. A note demands she bring the pendant to the second Iron Fist Tournament. So off she goes. She is matched against Ganryu during the Tournament and after beating him to a pulp he confesses that he kidnapped her mother and gives Michelle the address of where she is being held. Michelle braks her mother out and returns home before the tournament ends. ENDING: Michelle stands by a lake. She hurls the pendant into the water. It will cause no more trouble for her now. [This ending MAY have happened. However Michelle either had second thoughts and got it back or Heihachi somehow discovered it. I vote the former] TEKKEN 3: Michelle at some point recovers the pendant. She also adopts an abandoned child who she names Julia and trains her to be a powerful fighter as well as passionate environmentalist and archaeologist. Word of the excavations and subsequent deaths of a squad of Heihachi's men at a sacred Native American site reaches Michelle. After also hearing rumours about the disappearances of the Martial Arts experts around the world she puts two and two together and realise something bad has happened. She decides to go and confront Heihachi about his plans relating to the God of Fight, realising the pendant might be linked to this she takes it with her. If she can't stop Heihachi, she may be able to use it to stop the God of Fight claiming anymore lives. But soon after leaving for Japan she disappears. Heihachi captures her and imprisons her, demanding she give up the secret of the pendant. She refuses. Heihachi is then distracted by the appearance of Ogre and takes Michelle to Ogres temple to try and force her to use the pendant to control Ogre there and then. However Michelle escapes, hiding out in the forest she sees Julia enter the Temple for a final showdown with Ogre. Weak from her imprisonment she staggers up to the top. When she gets there she hears Julia calling her name. She collapses in Julia's arms and explains that Heihachi had tried to use her and the pendant to control Ogre. Julia is angry and wants to take revenge on Heihachi, but Michelle cautions against hatred and anger. Not far away Ogre is stirring again after his beating by Julia. Something tells Michelle that the Ogre Julia conquered is not the true form of the God of Fight. They decide to leave and go back to their home in Arizona. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************* d) Lee Chaolan ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: After Kazuya was thrown into a ravine at the age of ten, Heihachi decided to adopt another son. Lee Chaolan was chosen to train under Heihachi and run parts of the family business when he was older. Lee however lacked his father's drive to become the most powerful fighter on the planet though training and being in touch with ones "Tekken". He preferred the cut and thrust of the business world. When the Iron Fist tournament was announced, Lee knew it would bring Kazuya back to confront his father. Matched up against Kazuya in the penultimate round Lee made a deal with Kazuya, he would step aside in return for Kazuya keeping Lee on within the Mishima Empire. Kazuya realised he could have defeated lee, but saw he needed allies if his goal of taking over the whole Mishima corporation was to be realised. After he disposed of his father he placed lee in charge of much of the day to day running of the Mishima Corporation while he retreated into the shadows. TEKKEN 2: Lee Chaolan has taken special interest in the artificial and genetically engineered fighters projects being undertaken by Dr. Unfortunately none of them are very successful, though lee still believes in the superiority of genetically enhanced fighters over trained ones. After two years in exile, Heihachi returns to confront Kazuya in the second King of iron Fist Tournament. Lee now has to fight his adoptive father in the penultimate round. Lee had become worried about Kazuyas increasingly eccentric and frightening behaviour and fears for the future of the corporation. He tries to strike a deal with Heihachi, throwing the fight to allow him to carry on to Kazuya in full health. Heihachi rejects him and expresses his disgust with his adoptive son. He tells Lee that he was always second to Kazuya. He only adopted Lee to make Kazuya more angry and train harder to become a great fighter. Lee's lack of commitment to fighting and his constant wheedling betrayals have proved him unworthy of the Mishima name. He brushed Lee aside and carries on to confront his son. ENDING: Lee celebrates the defeat of Heihachi and Kazuya who languish in a cell. He is now the head of the corporation. [this certainly didn't happen] TEKKEN 4: After he betrayed Heihachi and sided with Kazuya at The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, Lee was expelled from the Mishima Zaibatsu. For quite sometime, thoughts of revenge consumed Lee. Eventually, he realized that it was pointless to kill an old man who probably had only a few years left in his life at best. With that realization, Lee distanced himself from fighting and moved to a mansion in the Bahamas to lead a solitary life. One day, he discovered a huge sell-off of G Corporation's stock online. Lee's intuition told him that something happened within the company. His intuition was correct. He hacked into their classified computer network and accessed their internal corporate communications. Lee learned that the Mishima Zaibatsu attacked G Corporation and caused significant damage to their research facilities. He also came across information that a new life form under development by the Mishima Zaibatsu would be completed by next year. In order to complete the life form, however, it appeared that they were missing a critical component... Oddly enough, an announcement was made for The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 around the same time. Lee's fading passion for fighting was rekindled - along with his resentment towards the Mishima clan. In order to prevent the Mishima Zaibatsu from discovering his true identity, Lee signed up for the Tournament online under a false name. As an additional measure to mask his identity, he dyed his gleaming silver hair purple. (For more history of Lee during the time between Tekken 2 and 4 see the entry for "Violet") ENDING: Lee stands triumphant after winning the final round of the tournament. He thanks the crowd and tells them he was also using the Tournament to gain data from his latest creation, the fighting robot, Combot. He calls to Combot to come out and give the crowd a demonstration. Combot appears, but much to Lee's irritation he trips over his feet and falls down the steps. "Lee won the tournament and finally realised his dream of becoming Mishima Zaibatsu's CEO. The first Combot had a bug due to hasty development. Lee transferred the Combot development program to the Mishima research labs. He spent large sums of money and gathered many brilliant scientists together to create a new prototype.." Lee sits in the CEOs chair and sips a glass of brandy. A sexy secretary approaches him with the latest test data on Combot. It has been tested on Heihachi, and 10.2 seconds into the test it did a 50 hit combo on him. Heihachi was powerless to do anything. This pleases Lee greatly, mwahahahaa! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** e) Combot ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 4: Combot is a general-purpose humanoid robot that Lee Chaolan entered in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 as a part of his scheme to win. Combot is unlike any other humanoid robots developed to date. Besides its default set of motor functions, a powerful learning AI function enables it to mimic perfectly any human motion captured on its mocap sensor arrays. With this ability, Combot is suitable for a wide spectrum of applications from childcare, housekeeping, service industries, and even military duty. However, this Combot is a unique version customized for hand-to-hand combat. In fact, its development was rushed so that it could be finished in time for the Tournament. Lee Chaolan's plan was to have Combat memorize a variety of fighting styles as it progressed through the Tournament. His ultimate goal was to create the most powerful hand-to-hand combat weapon in the world and win the Mishima Zaibatsu at the same time. Unfortunately, the development team did not have sufficient time to debug Combot. As a result, a few bugs remained in its memory subsystems when the Tournament started. These bugs prevent Combot from mimicking more than one person's moves each time it is powered up. ENDING: Combot stands triumphant in the arena. Lee appears clapping, "You did well Combot. Now the world is mine for the taking." Combot turns and holds out his arms to embrace Lee and Lee does likewise. But instead of a hug, Combot grabs Lee and smacks him on the ass. The final smack sends Lee sprawling across the arena. Then he performs Kings victory pose. Thumbs down for Lee! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************ f) Baek Doo-San ***************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 2: Baek Doo-San was a talented 27 year-old Korean Tai Kwon Do expert. He had a troubled past though. When he was younger he accidentally killed his father in training. After this tragedy he fell into a kind of denial. Full of anger against the world he made his living fighting for money until Kazuya spotted his potential and hired him. Baek's first job was to drive Marshall Law's Dojo out of business and hopefully seriously injure Marshall himself. Baek went to Marshalls dojo and trashed the place injuring many of Marshalls students. But Marshall himself wasn't there. Baek left the place in ruins and returned to Kazuya. Marshall discovered that Baek was responsible and entered the second Iron Fist Tournament to take his revenge. Baek happily went up against Marshall, but was totally and utterly beaten. Marshall was so angry about what Baek had done that he nearly killed Baek. But at the last minute Marshall stopped himself. He demanded to know why Baek had done what he did. Baek tells Marshall that he resented Marshall's success, his happiness. He had lost his father in training, and with that his reason to live. Marshall feels sorry for Baek, he knew of his father and respected him. He tells Baek that his father would not have wanted him to live his life in this way. Chastened Baek returns to Kazuya only to witness the Devil consuming him. Terrified Baek flee's. ENDING: Baek sits on a park bench and looks at a photo of himself and his father together. Having seen how hatred and resentment had consumed and destroyed Kazuya he realises he must take a different path in life. He smiles, reconciled to making a new start. [This happened] TEKKEN 3: After the second Iron Fist tournament, Baek sets up his own Tai Kwon Do school. He has some exceptional students including a young redheaded man called Hwoarang. He indulges their extra-curricular money making schemes, but runs an honourable school. He is loved and respected by his pupils. One night though as he is leaving the school alone, he is confronted by a large monster (Ogre). He fights it, but it is no use. Baek dies at the hands of Ogre and his soul is absorbed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************* g) Steve Fox ******************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 4: Steve Fox is a new fighter to the tournament. He is 21 years old and is a boxing champion from Britain. As a young British boxer enjoying his run as the world middleweight champ, Steve Fox was at the top of his game. He had everything he wanted, except for one thing - his past. Adopted in his infancy, Steve never knew the identity of his biological parents or the origin of the scar on his arm. One day, Steve is ordered to throw a fight by a Mafia betting high stakes on the fight. Steve refused to cooperate and won the fight regardless of the threats made against him. [Um.. the Mafia.. in England.. a touch unrealistic even for Tekken!!] Unfortunately, the Mafia made good on their threats and put a price on Steve's head. With the Mafia in hot pursuit, Steve fled England for the United States to lead the life of a marked man. But no matter where he hid, he could not completely shake the Mafia henchmen. Steve realized that no matter what he did, the Mafia would eventually catch up and kill him. No one would ever know that he was killed, nor would he ever learn the truth about his past. With this realization, Steve decides to put himself in the limelight again and enters The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. ENDING: Steve winds the tournament, but Heihachi tells Abel of his plan to cheat him. "Fortunately for us Steve has an assassin gunning for him. We'll take advantage of the situation. Kill Steve by serving him up to the assassin." Steve is given access to the information on his parentage and is shown that he was conceived via IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) when his mother was in cryo sleep. Then he is shown footage of Nina at a prior Tekken (Tekken 2 by the look of the costume). Data on his father is not forthcoming. He goes back to his hotel. As he gets out his body guards try to kill him. But Nina snipes the guns out of their hands from the window opposite (she has discovered she is his mother from the Syndicates info). She then drops down and runs off. Steve chases her down a blind alley. She points a gun at him but does not shoot. "You're..." he starts to say, but then Lei appears and points a gun at Nina. Steve knocks him down and Nina runs off much to Steve's distress. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************* h) Bryan Fury ******************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: Bryan Fury, an officer in the International Police Organization was killed in a shoot-out in Hong Kong. In his former life, Bryan was known as a skilful detective, but on the other side, he was always followed by dark rumours. Investigating the Hong Kong drug trade, Lei Wulong discovered that Fury had connections with drug dealers. Bryan's corpse was transported to the laboratory of a man named Dr. Abel. This 88-year-old scientist was fairly famous in the underground scientific community, but his findings were often preceded by Dr. Boskonovitch's. However, with Fury, he came to the last step of completing his master project... the Cyborg Army. Dr Abel realised that a perfect Cyborg must have the mechanics built by his rival, Dr. Boskonovitch, who had always been better than him when it came to bio-mechanics. However Dr. Boskonovitch had disappeared, as Bryan had been a detective in a former life he reanimated Fury's body and sent him off to collect this data. Bryan sneaks into the 'King of Iron Fist Tournament', targeting Yoshimitsu who has strong ties with Boskonovitch, in the hope he can locate him and retrieve the data Abel needs. Its seems he must have been successful, maybe Abel offered Dr.B info on resurrection of the dead in return for the cyber technology needed to enhance Bryan. ENDING: Bryan is being chased through the streets by soldiers, who fire repeatedly at him. The bullets have no effect and his strength is so great he snaps the gun turret off the tank sent to stop him. Laughing evilly it becomes apparent that he is truly a super-enhanced undead soldier. [This ending happened]. TEKKEN 4: In the next two years Bryan came to the realization that his life was quickly coming to an end. Two years ago, the Mishima Zaibatsu recruited Doctor Abel as its top scientific advisor. When this happened, Abel abandoned Bryan without giving a second thought to the now-obsolete cyborg's well being. Bryan knew that the only person capable of extending his life was Abel, his creator. Bryan despised both Heihachi Mishima, the man who took Abel away from him, and Abel himself for abandoning him. One day, Bryan heard news of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, and decided to enter the Tournament. He entered knowing that it would probably be his final fight. As he trained, Bryan sensed that his death was quietly approaching. Despite his impending death, Bryan's physical strength did not diminish. On the contrary, Bryan's muscles flowed with energy that made him more powerful than before. Along with this new strength, Bryan developed an almost uncontrollable rage that also manifested itself in his outward physical appearance. Bryan staked everything on this one hope - if he won the Tournament, he would become the head of the Mishima Zaibatsu. More importantly, if Bryan defeated Heihachi Mishima in the tournament, he could easily take total control over the Mishima Zaibatsu to do his bidding. If all went as planned, Bryan would command Abel to modify his body to prolong his life. This would also be an opportunity for him to upgrade his body. It would be his opportunity to upgrade himself to the most powerful being in existence. ENDING: "Following victory Bryan approached Abel on shaky legs. 'You're still alive? Abel was in disbelief. Gathering every last ounce of strength Bryan knocked Abel across the room. Bryan then fell to the floor unconscious." Bryan comes too in Dr. Boskonovitchs laboratory. Yoshimitsu had taken him there. Dr.Boskonavitch offers to take Bryan's essence, his memories etc and totally mechanise him. In return he will keep Bryan's undead body to use in his fight against Dr. Abels Devil/Human/Genocell bio-weapon. Not having a lot of options, Bryan agrees. As he lies back Dr. Boskonavitch says a year will pass before he awakens again.. "Sweet dreams" and for Bryan, everything goes black... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** i) Ganryu ******************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Ganryu is a corrupt Sumo wrestler, involved in fraudulent dealings to futher his own wealth. He enters the tournament to try and aquire more money for himself, but comes up against Yoshimitsu. Yoshimitsu beats the stuffing out of him, angry that he has betrayed his Sumo priciples. He then organises the theft of all of Ganryu's money and exposes his crimes. Ganryu is dishonoured and shamed out of the Sumo community. TEKKEN 2: The now dishonoured Ganryu has gone to Kazuya to ask for work. Kazuya employs him to go to America and kidnap Michelle Chang's mother. This is to encourage Michelle to bring the sacred pendant to Kazuya in exchange for her mothers safe return. Michelle come to the Iron Fist Tournament again but is unwilling at first to hand the pendant over. Kazuya sends Ganryu up against her to help "persuade" her some more. Sadly Ganryu gets a right good kicking from a very unimpressed Michelle. Suffering guilt and shame over how low he has been bought he tries to make-up in some small way by telling Michelle where her mother is being held. ENDING: Ganryu has regained his honour. [It is doubtful this happened, he seems to be beyond redemption]. It is not know for sure what happened to Ganryu, I would guess he either committed suicide or was killed by Kazuya for his miserable betrayal. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** j) Gon ********************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: Gon was Master of the Forest, Master of the Sea and Master of the Air. This tough little dinosaur had proved his worth in the natural world, now he wanted to prove his strength and power in the human world. He entered the Iron Fist Tournament and did well, although he did not reach the showdown with Ogre. He also proved triumphant in the Tekken Ball Championship being held at the same time as the Iron Fist Tournament. Gon disliked the human world; there were too many passions and emotions he did not understand. Gon didn't care about revenge, he just wanted to be the toughest fighter that ever lived! ENDING: Gon returns to the natural world where he continues to assert his authority over all creatures large and small. [This ending did happen.] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- *************************** k) Eddy Gordo ***************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: Eddy was born into one of the richest families in Brazil. Since he was a small boy he knew he would one day take over the family business. He was well liked in his hometown because he was a hard worker who treated others as his equals. One day, when he was 19, Eddy came home from school to find his father shot and dying. He recalled that his father had been unusually nervous and fearful in recent weeks. Eddy's father was working to destroy the drug cartel in Brazil. His untimely death occurred just when he had obtained enough evidence to put the kingpins away for good. In his last breaths, Eddy's father told him, "Now is not the right time to fight. Falsely admit to the crime and hide in prison. Only there will you be safe". Eddy went along with his father's last wish and the model student went from a life of luxury to incarceration as a murderer. Prison life was hell and not a day went by that Eddy didn't vow to get even with his father's killers. One day during a prison riot he watched an old man with great power fighting using a technique he called Capoeira. For 8 years Eddy practiced until he became a master and could be considered a lethal weapon. Upon his release from prison at age 27, Eddy heard about the 'King of Iron Fist Tournament 3' and the Mishima Corporation. He decided to enter the tournament, believing he could persuade the Mishima Corporation to help him seek his long-awaited revenge. ENDING: During the Tournament, Eddy finds out the name of the Cartel Boss who shot his father. He confronts him using his lethal Martial Arts to force him to talk. The boss has piles of documents that point to Eddy's innocence and those who may have been truly responsible. Angrily Eddy demand to know why his father had to die, the Boss doesn't know, they were asked to do it by someone else. Later Eddy now restored to his fortune, searches though all the evidence he found. Amongst he finds disturbing documents, maybe the Mishima Corporation were behind the death of his father...[This ending happened] TEKKEN 4: Eddy finds the grand daughter of the Capoeira master who trained him in prison - Christie Monterio. He trains her into a formidable fighter, but two years on from the last Iron Fist Tournament he is still bitter about the death of his father... when he hears of the next Iron Fist Tournament he see an opportunity to take revenge...but he has since disappeared. Eddy's whereabouts during the tournament are unknown, but at the end he appears with his hand in a sling to watch his protégé Christie Monteiro. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** l) Hwoarang ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: A student of Tae Kwon Do who works out at Baek Doo San's dojo, Hwoarang (19) makes a lot of money through dishonest gambling wagers. As part of what's called a fraud team, he and other members pick fights for money. They manipulate the odds by concealing their true strength. He escalates the odds against him and makes what appears to be a foolish wager. His opponents soon realize they're the real fools when Hwoarang soundly beats each and every one of them. One day, members of the Mishima Group came to town, including among them Jin Kazama. Hwoarang talks them into his game and is matched against Jin. Hwoarang embarrassingly can only manage a draw. He hangs his head in disbelief at the first blemish in his perfect career. Sickened at the thought of having to tell his teacher Baek the bad news, Hwoarang vows to practice every day to guarantee that it would never happen again. Then, terrible news. The God of Fighting claims Baek as yet another victim. Hwoarang now has a purpose in life. He will participate in the tournament, beat Jin Kazama and seek revenge against the God of Fighting. ENDING; Hwoarang only manages a Runners-Up trophy, and never gets to fight Ogre. Jin has beaten him again. Despondent he sits by the dock and is about to hurl his trophy into the water when he hears a commotion. Jin is being chased and shot at by the Tekken Force. Hwoarang follows and using his Tai Kwon Do he incapacitates the soldiers chasing Jin. He turns and see Jin covered by strange unearthly light, Jin flies away crackling with demonic energy. Hwoarang looks at his own hands and finally feels satisfied, he had no super-natural powers, how could he have beaten Jin? His power was all his own. [This ending probably happened. Heihachi may not have shot Jin straight away. Jin could have defeated Ogre and to prevent him defeated True Ogre Heihachi sent the Tekken Force after him. Jin ran, then as his powers began to appear, he returned and confronted True Ogre.. only then to be shot by Heihachi] TEKKEN 4: After the 3rd Iron Fist Tournament Hwoarang was drafted into the military back in his homeland of Korea and was assigned to a special operations division. Although his successes in various missions were highly regarded along with his prowess at Tae Kwon Do and combat techniques, his penchant for disobeying rules and orders gave his senior officers more than a few headaches. Hwoarang was uninterested in military life and felt a strange emptiness within him. He longingly recalled the days of hustling money in street fights and the rush he experienced from hand-to-hand combat. He often thought of one fight in particular - the fight against Jin Kazama. These longings could not be quelled by the military. One day, Hwoarang (now 21) found out about the announcement of the next Tournament. Hwoarang's blood stirred. He would defeat Jin, Heihachi Mishima, and anyone else who dared to challenge him to claim the Mishima Zaibatsu. Filled with excitement he hasn't felt in years, Hwoarang slipped out from the military base and headed for the Tournament. ENDING: "Hwoarang won the tournament and now Mishima Zaibatsu was his to control. But to everyone's surprise he sold Mishima Zaibatsu to another company. He then left on another journey with one last task to complete." He meets with Jin in a deserted carpark. He challenges him to a fight saying he never got to face him in the tournament. They fight each other, but before they can finish some Korean army officers show up to arrest Hwoarang for desertion. Jin fights them off and Howarang joins in. They then take cover behind a car. Hoarang tells Jin he kicked his ass and if Jin wants to even the score he'll have to make sure he shows up for the next tournament. Jin smiles, then the soldiers fire a rocket and blow up the car.. did Jin and Hoawarang escape?? (well duh..) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- *************************** m) Bruce Irvin **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 2: Bruce Irvin was once a respected American cop. He often partnered Lei Wulong on international crime-busting missions. He was also a talented kick-boxing and idol to many young children. This all came to an end one day when Bruce was ordered to fly to Japan to investigate Kazuya Mishima. Somehow Kazuya engineered a plane crash and Bruce was the only survivor. Bruce had no memory of his life prior to the crash and was immediately taken on by Kazuya who fed him a false story. He told Bruce he was a man who had been framed for a crime he did not commit and Kazuya would be able to keep him safe if Bruce became his bodyguard. Bruce agreed and served Kazuya from then on. When Kazuya called the Second Iron Fist Tournament, he found out Lei Wulong was on the way. Wanting the meddling cop out of the way, Kazuya told Bruce that lei had been the one who fitted him up. He hoped Bruce would be angry enough to dispose of the annoying Hong Kong Cop. Bruce and Lei met up and had a terrible fight. Lei tried to explain what had happened, who Bruce used to be, but Bruce did not believe him. After they had seriously injured each other Bruce managed to escape. Confused and upset he got onto a plane and headed away from Japan to think. But Kazuya had sabotaged his plane again, just in case Bruce had tried to escape. It once again exploded. Bruce's body was never found. ENDING: Bruce is working out with a punch bag. His mighty kick bursts the bag much to the amazement of a watching kid. He winks at the child and gives him a thumbs up. [This happened, but before Bruce started working for Kazuya] Lei was never sure if Bruce did actually die in the plane crash. His fears seemed to be realised 19 years later when he saw Ogre performing many of Bruce's signature kicks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ********************** n) Jack/Jack-2/Gun Jack ************************ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Jack is a military Cyborg, built by Dr. B he is meant to be a new breed of super soldier that can enter warzones that would be to lethal for human fighters. Uncomfortable about Mishima's growing power the Russian Government enter Jack into the first Tekken Tournament, hopefully to take out Heihachi. Jack never gets as far as Heihachi, he is pitted against Prototype Jack. Heihachis own Jack cyborg. Jack beats P-Jack but cannot continue in the tournament. He goes back to Russia with the fighting data he has gained and the news that Mishima is creating his own jack Cyborgs. ENDING: Jack is part of a production line of Jacks [This happened] TEKKEN 2: It was around this time that Dr. B put the "morality" programme in one of the Jacks, before he was kidnapped and forced to work for Kazuaya. While out on mission the Jack army were putting down a rebellion in a lawless eastern European state. Bacterial weapons were being used and it was too dangerous for human soldiers to fight there. A small girl was found by one Jack cowering in some rubble, this triggered Jack - 2 "humanity". Immediately he rescued the girl (Jane) and went AWOL from the Jack Army. Jane was suffering the effects of the war and was sick. Jack - 2 realised Dr. B may be able to help her and entered the Iron Fist Tournament to try and find him. Fighting off the Mishima's new P-Jack, he succeeded in tracking down Dr. B who was delighted his "human" program had worked so well. He cured Jane and Jack-2 and Jane left. ENDING: Jack-2 has taken Jane to an island where they can both be safe. Unfortunately Dr. Abel has other plans. Ordered by Heihachi to take Jack-2 out, whatever the cost he blasts him from above the earth with an Electro-magnetic beam, shutting down Jack-2 completely. The last thing Jack sees before he "dies" is Jane chasing a butterfly....[This ending happened *sniffle*] TEKKEN 3: When Jane, now a physicist, was eight years old, she was rescued from a bacteriological war by the Russian military robot Jack-2. However, Jack-2 was later destroyed by a satellite weapon as Jane, still a young girl, watched in horror. Jane, now 27, could not forget the nightmare of Jack-2's having collapsed beside her. She spent ten years restoring Jack-2 to 90% functionality, but it seemed to have lost the humane characteristics that set it apart from Jack-1. Jane worked hard analysing the program in order to return to Jack-2 the gentle soul which had saved her life. Through detailed analysis, she found that most of Jack-2's programming was created by Mishima Heavy Industry, one of the subsidiaries of the Mishima Financial Empire. Moreover, she discovered a hidden program... 'Project Gun Jack'. It laid the groundwork for a new weapon, a pivot gun. In order to restore Jack-2 completely, Jane had to approach Mishima Financial Empire and solve the mystery of the project. She quickly installed the hidden program and brought to Mishima Financial Empire the newly dubbed Gun Jack. Keen to see the effectiveness of the new jack in battle, Heihachi accepts Gun Jack into the tournament, intending to mass-produce him if he performs well. ENDING: During the tournament while Gun Jack fought, Jane hacked into the Mishima computers and found Jack's "human" programme. During all the chaos caused by True Ogre and Jin, Gun Jack and Jane escape and in a secret lab in the middle of nowhere, she downloads the program. To her delight Gun Jack smiles at her, he remembers her and his humanity. Feeling like a little girl again Jane clambers on her big friends shoulder and they walk towards a new future. But high above Dr. Abel has orders to destroy them utterly; he once again fires a laser at them, this time a beam of pure destruction. But this time Gun Jack is ready, as the dust clears he holds Jane close to him. Both of them protected by Gun Jacks defensive shield. They look around at the crater they stand in the middle of and realise that they will never be free of the interference of the Mishima's. But at least now they have each other. [This ending happened] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** o) Wang Jinery *************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Wang Jinery was a long time acquaintance of the Mishima family. He had been a friend to Heihachi's father and had watched Heihachi grow up. He also witnesses Heihachi's growing fanatical devotion to fighting and the power it could bring him. Wang became concerned about Heihachi increasing arrogance and began to look for a fighter who might be able to curb his behaviour somewhat. In the first tournament he took on the young fighter Marshall Law. Although law was a brilliant fighter, he did not have the purity of spirit that Wang knew would be needed to combat the increasingly dark power of the Mishima's. After Kazuya became head of the Mishima Empire he became even more worried about the evil he sensed inside Kazuya and as a friend of Kazuya's father he was increasingly shut out. TEKKEN 2: In the second Tournament, Wang found the fighter he was looking for. The beautiful and pure Jun Kazama. He did not stand against her in their match-up and told her of his fears of what was brewing inside Kazuya. ENDING: Wang Jinery ascends a hill and pours wine on a grave (Heihachi's fathers?). [Unsure if this happened] After Tekken 2 it is not certain what became of Wang. It seems likely he went into semi-retirement as he was quite old and spent his days mostly training students. He either died a natural death of old age or was killed by Ogre. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** p) Jin Kazama **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: At the age of 15, Jin found out that he was Kazuya Mishima' son. At the same time, he lost his mother, Jun Kazama. She had died when Ogre came to her house and absorbed her soul while she defended Jin. Honouring her last words he went to Heihachi. Jin trained himself under the supervision of Heihachi with the intention of defeating the "God of Fight", who killed his mother. Heihachi was not only his grandfather, but also a reliable teacher. Four years have passed. Having mastered the Kazama and Mishima style fighting karate, Jin starts to take action as a martial artist. He takes the Tai Kwon-Do fighter Hwoarang to a draw in a street fight and becomes friends with the eccentric teenager Ling Xiayou. He is however unaware of Heihachi's plans to use him to lure out the God of Fight. One day Jin's fighting power reaches a high enough level for Ogre to become interested. Heihachi has called the King of Iron Fist tournament and many fighters from around the world have come to take part. The ultimate confrontation is against Heihachi and then Ogre. Jin is the last fighter to reach the temple where Heihachi and Ogre await. First he beats his grandfather and then the takes on Ogre. He defeats Ogre, but unlike the previous fighters who beat it, Ogre suddenly transforms into a huge grotesque bat-like demon around ten feet high and breathing fire. The boiling power of the devil inside Jin has triggered Ogres true form. Heihachi is pleased, but before he can take steps to capture the true Ogre Jin begins to fight it. True Ogre does not take defeat well and explodes. ENDING: Jin thinks Heihachi will be pleased with him but is shocked when he turns and see that guns are pointed at him. The Tekken Force gun him down and as he reaches out towards his Grandfather for help, Heihachi walks over... and shoots him several times. Anger surges though Jins body and the power he feels inside suddenly explodes outward. Dark patterns appear across his forehead, his eyes glow red and two wings sprout from his back. His rage know no bounds and he rushes for Heihachi and smashes him through the wall of the temple and crashes him 50 to the ground. Leaving a wounded Heihachi behind he spreads his wings and flies away. [This happened] TEKKEN 4 - Brisbane, Australia... a city crowded with buildings, new and old. Nestled amongst the towering buildings of this city was a small dojo. A young man trained there, his face covered by the hood of his jacket. This young man trained there quietly. ... The young man was Jin. Day after day, Jin trained in the traditional art of karate. Ever since Heihachi's betrayal, Jin loathed everything about himself - his Mishima bloodline, his fighting style, the Devil gene in his blood, everything. He unlearned the Mishima-ryu fighting style thanks to the dojo master's training and mastered traditional karate. Jin's thoughts burned with the desire to destroy the evil Mishima bloodline - the bloodline of his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima, and his father, Kazuya. One day, Jin heard rumors that The King of the Iron Fist Tournament 4 was announced. A once in a lifetime opportunity to exterminate the Mishima clan. Without hesitation, Jin hardened his resolve to enter the tournament. Jin hit a sandbag with his sharply honed kick. The bag burst open violently, and sand poured out of the bag... ENDING: "While Jin was on his way to fight Kazuya he was ambushed by Tekken Force. Jin bought down scores of them but was eventually captured and taken away." Inside Jin's head he is tormented by images of kazuya laughing and saying "Hate Me!, "Give in to the Anger!". He comes to tied up and suspended in Hehachis temple. His Devil markings are on his chest. He is set free and drops down, a purple mist surrounds his body. "If only you were dead!!" he screams at his father Kazuya and launches himself at him. They fight and Kazuya lies badly beaten. Heihachi walks past Kazuyas body with contempt. "Pathetic wretch, worthless fool." He then turns on Jin and tells him he is next to die. But Jin also beats him up. He holds Heihachi up off the floor by the front of his tunic and is about to deliver a deathblow when a bright light shines and he catches a glimpse of his dead mother, Jun, looking at him. The image is quickly gone, but it is enough to remind Jin that he is better than Heihachi and Kazuya. He lets Heihachi drop to the ground, "Thank my mother, Jun Kazama." He then spreads his black wings and flies up smashing trough the roof. As moonlight pours in a cascade of black feathers fall down, and in the centre one single bright, white feather slowly comes to rest... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** q) Jun Kazama **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Prologue: As a young girl Jun was a sensitive child. She always had a special connection with nature and the natural world. One day she saw a bobcat kill a mother rabbit protecting her babies. She picked up the dead rabbit and wept for it. As she cried a handsome young boy with large bushy eyebrows, who had been practising karate nearby came over. He comforted her and said he'd get the bobcat for her. Jun cautioned him "the bobcat wasn't being evil, it just acted according to it's nature". The young boy seemed to understand this. Then a huge frightening man strode over, Jun watched in horror as he accused the boy (his son) of weakness. She was helpless as the man hurled the boy over a nearby cliff and strode off laughing. She searched in the ravine but never found the young boy. As she grew up she was haunted by nightmares of that day and other sinister images of the boy becoming demon-like. She became a fine fighter, although she only used her power for one cause; protecting the planet and defending the weak. She ended up working for an Environmental organisation and became one of their best operatives. One day she was called to headquarters and shown footage of a mutated animal skeleton that resembled a Raptor skeleton. It had been found by fisherman floating near the coast of a Mishima owned island. She was shocked when she was told the remains were 'Humida' and multi-gene lifeform. Something that could not have evolved naturally. Her boss gave her tickets to the second Iron Fist Tournament so she could investigate the goings on at Mishima Corporation headquarters. Jun entered the tournament reluctantly, but her superior skills saw her reach her penultimate battle with an old man called Wang Jinery. He refused to fight her however and told her his worries about the dark force inside Kazuya and how he believed Jun held the power to stop him or save him. Concerned and worried, Jun was now on her way to confront Kazuya. Before she did, she took timeout to get the two genetically modified fighters - Roger and Alex- packed off safely. She did not wish them to be made test subjects by any side in this conflict, either by her bosses or by the Mishima's. Then she went to meet Kazuya. Her shock was immense when she confronted him and realised that he was the same young boy who had been so cruelly treated by his father all those years ago. She was saddened to see that the once gentle and happy boy was this twisted, angry man - "I feel a cold spirit, like a devil inside you!" she said to him. She pleaded with him to reject all the hate and anger that was festering inside him. Kazuya became annoyed with her lecturing "You shouldn't live your life for empty ideologies, can you defend your truth with your fists?" he demanded of her. They squared up to each other...but a strange thing was happening between them. As they argued she began to feel an overwhelming feeling of love, sympathy and attraction for Kazuya. She could see in his eyes that he was confused and feeling the same. They came together.. but not in battle. Tenderly they make love, and for a moment Jun thinks she may have reached him. But Kazuya miserably confides to her that he can no longer control the devilish presence inside him. He knows his father is on his way to kill him and maybe that would be for the best. Tearfully Jun leaves Kazuya to his fate. ENDING: Jun returns to the countryside where she is to make her home for the next fifteen years. All the animals flock to her. She is their protector and they love her. [This ending happened] Fleeing she realises quickly that she is pregnant. They devilish presence that lived in Kazuya comes seeking her once Kazuya is dead, intending to enter her unborn child. She resists it and goes into hiding in a remote mountain cottage. There over the next fifteen years she brings up Jin Kazama her son. They live happily with Jin until rumours reach her of the deaths of many Martial artists around the world. Jun instinctively picks up on the dark power encroaching on her life. She has no understanding of what it is, but senses that she has become a target. Accepting her destiny, she tells Jin everything she knows of there haunted past to prepare him for the fateful day she now feels is imminent. She tells Jin to go to his grandfather Heihachi if anything should befall her. Her intuition proves right on a cold, stormy night. Ogre comes to the mountains bringing a chilling, swirling wind. "Run away!" cries Jun. But against his mother's pleas Jin opts to face Toshin and is knocked unconscious. When Jin awakens the house and everything around it is burned to the ground. Jin searches frantically for his mother but she is nowhere to be found. Jun is dead, absorbed by Ogre. For Jin there is nothing left, but revenge.. [For what happened next to Jun, see the Tekken Tag Tournament section after the Alternative viewpoints section of this FAQ] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************** r) Armour King ***************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Armour King's origins are shrouded in mystery. He is a Japanese wrestler who wears a black iron suit and the mask of a Jaguar. He has a supernatural air about him, the power he gains from his mask makes him more than human. He was believed to be a friend of Heihachi's father and Wang Jinery. He encounters King in a wrestling bout organised before the First Tekken Tournament. Impressed by the strength of his fellow jaguar headed wrestler they become friends and sparring partners. They meet up in the first Tournament and wrestle each other. King is not interested in prize money or winning he wants to see if one day King will be able to help him defeat the creature he fears Kazuaya will become. TEKKEN 2: After the Second Iron Fist Tournament he seeks out King who has gone to ground. He finds King slumped outside a seedy drinking hole. King has lost his orphanage and his reason to live. He is depressed and despairing. Armour King sternly throws the mask at Kings feet. He tells King to train hard, the second iron Fist tournament may be about more than just winning a big prize. It could be a chance to defeat an ancient evil. He also finds and trains the lovable Roger and Alex, the more people he can marshal against Kazuya the better. Once in the tournament he faces King again. Still seeing that King hurts over his lost orphanage, he beats King and demands that he return to his children and his training. Armour King also realises that the forces Kazuya are unleashing are more than he can stop, the power his mask gives him are beginning to take a toll on his mental and physical well-being. He is relieved when Heihachi kills Kazuya and seemingly removes him from the world forever. He returns to Mexico the see King and both of them carry on wrestling in tournaments together. ENDING: Armour sits brooding in the changing rooms of a wrestling stadium. He staggers up and drags himself towards the lights and crowds ready for another show. Blood drips down from his mask. Power has his price....[This ending happened] TEKKEN 3: Armour King trains and wrestles with King for another 15 years. They are great friends. But one terrible day his supernatural intuition perceives a threat to his friend. He arrives to find King being attacked by Ogre the God of Fight. He is too late to prevent his friends death and is devastated. He has to tell all the orphans about Kings death and one in particular a young man who had been raised in Kings orphanage swore revenge for his master. Armour King saw the mans potential and offered him Kings mask, aiming to train him up until he was ready to take on the God of Fight. Four years pass and King 2 does phenomenally well under Armour Kings tutelage. One day after King wins a particularly difficult fight Armour King calls him to the dressing room. The years and emotions weigh heavy on him and he removes his jaguar mask, slumped on a bench he looks sad, old and vulnerable. He relates to the shocked young King exactly how his predecessor died and gives him a ticket for the Third Tekken Tournament. He tells King 2 that he cannot attend, the toll of living under the mask has finally forced him to bow out of active fighting. But he believes that King 2 will acquit himself well. Epilogue: Armour King goes into semi-retirement. Pleased with Kings performance in the Third Iron Fist Tournament he gives him his blessing to carry on the first Kings legacy of wrestling and managing the orphanage. He goes away for a sabbatical. One day he winds up in a bar in Arizona. In the bar is an obnoxious man called Craig, who keeps bragging about how his Vale Tudo skills are a match for any puny wrestlers. Armour King knows he shouldn't but he rises to the challenge, but he is out of practice and old, Craig's brand of vicious "anything goes" fighting leaves Armour King fatally wounded and he dies. A sad end for a wrestling hero, death in a barroom brawl at the hands of a brutish, dishonourable thug. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- *************************** s) King/King 2 **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: King is a wrestling priest from Mexico. He has an orphanage full of children who look up to him as their protector. On a missionary trip abroad he aquired the jaguar mask and became an even more powerful fighter. He encounters Armour King in a bout before the First Iron Fist Tournament. They become firm friends and sparring partners from then on. King does not win the First Tournament, but receives enough money to help out his orphanage. ENDING: King returns home, church bells ring. The orphans run out and surround their beloved King. He is home and loved. He couldn't be happier [This happened] TEKKEN 2: It has all gone wrong for King. A child under his care dies in an accident. King blames himself and renounces his God, his Orphanage and the jaguar mask. He falls into a deep spiral of depression and alcoholism. One day he hits rock bottom, staggering out of a bar he passes out by the bins. On waking he finds Armour King standing over him. AK tosses the mask at his feet and demands he find his form again. He must join him in the Second Iron Fist Tournament. King agrees and begins to train again. But cannot face returning to his old orphanage. In the tournament Armour King gives King a right good thrashing. He then orders a chastened King to return to his orphanage. The children miss him and he should not hurt them with his own self-pity. King agrees and leaves early. ENDING: Its Christmas, snow lies on the ground. King watches as the children laugh and play inside. He walks quietly up to the door and leaves his presents for the children and then turns away. But the children run out and surround him, they want to know where he has been. They tell him how much they missed him and make him promise never to leave. Overwhelmed by their love for him Kings doubts finally disappear. He roars with happiness, he is once again truly home [This happened] TEKKEN 3: Fifteen years on a King still wrestles and looks after his orphans, but one night his life is cut cruelly short. Ogre appears to him and tries to absorb his soul, he fights Ogre off for a few minutes, but it is to no avail. By the time Armour King arrives he is dead. Now enters King 2. Raised in King's orphanage, he was 20 years old when the original King was killed. He put on the mask and assumed the role of King's successor, in order to honour his mentor and save the orphanage. The new King had only watched his mentor and really was incapable of fulfilling the legend. Armour King, knowing who killed King, felt an obligation to prepare King the Second for a rightful revenge. ENDING: Four years have passed and King the Second is now a skilful wrestler. Feeling the time is right, Armour King tells his student that the God of Fighting was responsible for King's death. Armour King breaks down in tears as he tells the gruesome story. King the Second now knows his purpose in life.[This happened before the tournament obviously] King does not get to meet Ogre, but feels that Ogres death at least avenges King in some way even if it wasn't by his own hand. King returns to carry on the First Kings legacy. Two years later he gets some terrible news... TEKKEN 4: Armor King, King's mentor and foster father, was dead. King (now 30) pledged on Armor King's grave that he would seek revenge against the man responsive for his mentor's death. The man (Craig Marduk) was currently serving time in an Arizona State Penitentiary. With the money he saved from professional wrestling tournaments, King arranged for the murderer's release from prison and sent him a plane ticket and an article about The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. With his plans in motion, King headed for the Tournament to await his sworn enemy, the Vale Tudo fighter, Craig Marduk. ENDING: "After the tournament King donated Mishima Zaibatsu's vast fortune to help all the impoverished children in the world. But King still had unfinished business to attend to." Marduk lies injured in hospital. King strides in and raises his fist to end Marduks life. But then he sees a photo of Marduk with his family. King can't do it, he cannot kill Marduk. It is not his way. Sadly he walks out, leaving Marduk unaware of just how close he came to losing his life. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** t) Kuma/Panda **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Kuma is a bodyguard of Heihachi. Talented in Martial Arts it fights with Paul Phoenix during the First Iron Fist Tournament. It keeps him occupied for so long that Paul never makes the showdown with him rival Kazuya. After Heihachi climbs out of the ravine he finds Kuma and they go into seclusion, training together. TEKKEN 2: Kuma once again fights with Paul, but this time he is quickly beaten. ENDING: Heihachi is training Kuma. Kuma smashes straight tough a wall with a picture of Paul pinned to it. It REALLY hates him! [This ending happened] TEKKEN 3: The first Kuma died of old age during its travels with Heihachi. Its child, also named Kuma, became Heihachi's second pet. This Kuma is smarter than its father, and a good bodyguard for Heihachi. One day, when it was absorbed in watching TV, it suddenly went wild at the sight of a martial artist with a scarlet go-gi. It was Paul Phoenix! Kuma has trained since that day to defeat Paul in battle. It doesn't think anything of the God of Fighting, only of defeating Paul. By the way, Kuma is secretly in love with Xiaoyu's Panda PANDA: She is cared for at Ling Xiaoyu's high school. To participate in the tournament, Ling moved to the Mishima Industrial College in Japan. Heihachi taught Panda advanced bear fighting so that she could act as a bodyguard for Xiaoyu during the tournament. Although Kuma is fond of Panda, she dislikes him and keeps her distance. ENDING: Kuma is waiting for Panda after school finishes. As Ling and Panda leave the school gates, Kuma thrusts out a bunch of flowers for Panda. Everything goes quiet, tumbleweeds roll past, a distant bell chimes. Ling and Panda ignore him completely. Playing hard to get eh? [This happened.. aw poor Kuma] TEKKEN 4: After losing to Paul Phoenix in the last Tournament, Kuma realized that he had lost touch with his animal roots. As long as he was Heihachi's pet, he would be unable to harness the power of his natural instincts, no matter how much he trained. Determined to revive his wild instincts, Kuma trained by himself in the mountains of Hokkaido (a northern island of Japan). Life in the wilderness was more brutal than any training Kuma went through with Heihachi. Despite this, Kuma continued his harsh regimen because he burned with the desire to defeat Paul. His efforts paid off- his skills improved dramatically to the point where he developed his own attacks. One thing Kuma could not get rid of, however, was his habit for watching television. He went down to the village every so often to watch TV through the windows of the villagers' houses, much to the surprise of the villagers. After waking from hibernation during his second year of training, Kuma went down to the village as usual to watch some TV. When he looked through the window of one house, he saw a commercial announcing The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. Kuma's instincts raged for battle, and he headed for the tournament site. Paul would be at the Tournament without a doubt, and Kuma was determined to defeat him. ENDING (KUMA): "After defeating Paul and winning the tournament Kuma decided to set his sights on a new goal. 'Grr I'm gonna try my paw at corporate management!'" Heihachi congratulates Kuma and shows him a stack of deeds to the various regional branches of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Kuma begins to sign each one with his paw-print. Right at the bottom is a deed that would sign all Kuma's property back over to Heihachi. Heihachi grins as he encourages Kuma to sign it. But Kuma knows him too well and plants a big red paw-print slap onto Heihachi's shocked face (Yay Kuma!) PANDA: After the last Tournament, Panda accompanied Xiaoyu back to Mishima High School. Since then, Panda spent her days training with Xiaoyu. On some days, she wondered (just a little) about the whereabouts of Kuma, who disappeared after the Tournament. One day, two years after the Tournament, Xiaoyu, lost in her thoughts, told Panda about the announcement for The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. After hearing Xiaoyu's concerns about the Tournament and the Mishima Zaibatsu, Panda made up her mind to become Xiaoyu's bodyguard once again. ENDING (PANDA): "After winning the tournament, panda handed the entire estate over to Ling Xiayou. Xiayou made public the wrong doings of the Mishima Zaibatsu and used the fortune to compensate it's victims" Panda and Xiayou sit and talk. Pand seems a little preoccupied and shows Xiayou a photo of Panda, Xiayou and Jin taken when they were all at high school together (prior to Tekken 3). Panda makes it clear to Xiayou that Ling should go and find Jin, but that she must do it without Panda. For some reason Panda cannot join her. Xiayou is sad, but hugs Panda and tells her they will all be friends. She then stands up and resolves to find Jin, wherever he may be... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** u) Kunimitsu **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 1: Kunimitsu is a rival of Yoshimitsu for the leadership of the Manji Clan. She hears of a strange mystical pendant held by a young fighter called Michelle Chang. Looking for anything that could give her the upper hand against Yoshimitsu she follows Michelle to the First Iron Fist Tournament. Unfortunately Michelle is to powerful for her and she does not acquire the pendant as she had hoped. She is also surprised to see Yoshimitsu at the tournament. TEKKEN 2: Kunimitsu argues with Yoshimitsu about the future of the Manji party, she believes that philanthropy is not a way to run a party and that they should look to becoming a more powerful and organised crime syndicate than mess about as "merely" a band of common thieves. Yoshimitsu is elected head of the manji party and ejects Kunimitsu for her persistent undermining of him. He also suspects she wants his sacred sword. Kunimitsu goes to Kazuya Mishima, believing he could be a powerful ally and assist in her revenge against Yoshimitsu. She tells him about Michelle's pendant and in return she asks to be able to fight Yoshimitsu in the tournament. Kazuya allows Yoshimitsu to escape a break-in to Mishima headquarters, knowing he will return for Dr. B under cover of the Second Iron Fist Tournament. Kunimitsu does indeed get to fight Yoshimitsu. But he has been bio-mechanically enhanced and is pretty cheesed off with her plots and plans to kill him. So he decides to do the world a favour and kills her. He then leaves the tournament to rescue Dr.B. Alas Kunimitsu, the dishonourable ninja is dead. No-one mourns her passing. ENDING: Kunimitsu admires Yoshimitsu's sword which she now has. [This did not happen] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** v) Forest Law ************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: The proud son of Marshall Law, Forest trains at his father's dojo to achieve Law's success and greatness. As a protective father, Marshall has forbidden his son from entering any contests outside the dojo. Marshall's long-time friend and competitor Paul Phoenix visits once every few months to spar with Marshall. One day when Paul arrived, Marshall was away supervising the building of a new dojo. Paul insisted that Forest join him in some training exercises. Forest declined knowing that his father would disapprove. But Paul wouldn't take no for an answer. Unaware of Marshall's restrictions on fighting, Paul suggested to Forest that he join 'The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3'. Paul sold Forest on the idea by telling him he's a better fighter than his father. Forest knew his father would be angry, but he had to prove that he was worthy of one day inheriting the dojo. Marshall was enraged when he found out what happened. To him, it was as if his son had been kidnapped. ENDING: Paul brings Forest back home having ensured he made it safely through the tournament. Forest wants to show his dad a new move, a variation on the famous flip kick. He demonstrates to Paul and Marshall. They both attempt the new move only to end up flat on the floor. How embarrassing, middle-age has caught up with them at last. Forest can only shrug, maybe his dad should spend less time pen-pushing for the business and more time working out! [This ending happened] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** w) Marshall Law ************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 1: Marshall Law was a young and supremely skilled Jeet Kun-Do fighter. At age 25 he hears of the first Iron Fist Tournament and enters. His goal is to win enough money to start up his own dojo. In the tournament he meets up with the martial Arts Master, Wang Jinery who spots his potential as a great fighter. Law does not manage to beat Wang and never gets to face Heihachi, but he does do well enough to win enough money to start his own martial arts school. ENDING: Marshall is teaching students in his dojo. He performs his amazing back-flip kick much to the admiration of his pupils. [This ending did happen.] TEKKEN 2: Law is now 28 and has a successful dojo. On the way home from the last Tournament he also became great friends with Paul Phoenix. Initially he has no intention of entering the second Iron Fist Tournament, but one day he returns to his dojo and finds it has been wrecked. One of his students identifies Baek Doo-San as the culprit. Burning with anger, Marshall finds that Baek is a participant in the second Iron Fist tournament and enters to seek revenge and some answers. Law meets up with Baek and challenges him over his actions. He severely beats Baek, nearly killing him in his rage. But he discovers that Baek is a tragic figure, suffering guilt over his fathers death. Law forgives Baek and leaves the tournament early. He goes back to his businesses and fathers a son - Forest. ENDING: Marshall demonstrates his famous flip-kick to Paul. Paul smugly thinks he can replicate the move, but falls flat on his face. [This ending happened - probably quite often!] TEKKEN 3: Marshall did not take part in the third Tekken tournament, some 18 years after the last one. After his experiences in the second he became concerned at how quickly he was driven to hate and how dangerous his martial arts skills made him. He refuses to allow Forest to take part in the third Iron Fist Tournament. Unfortunately Paul Phoenix turns up and persuades Forest to come with him to compete. Marshall is enraged by this disobedience and betrayal from his old friend. He buries himself in his businesses, becoming less and less interested in fighting. TEKKEN 4: By now the 48 year old Marshall Law was a successful businessman - he managed a newly established dojo and even owned a nationwide Chinese fast food chain called Marshall China. Unfortunately, he lost a franchise war against a competitor and had to declare bankruptcy a year later. Unable to deal with his failure, Marshall fell into depression and spent his days at home in a drunken haze. Then one day, a notice for the Tournament arrived at his doorstep. Marshall's eyes flashed with renewed vigour. After a month of intense training, he beat himself back into top physical form Something ignited a fire within Marshall. "This is it," he said to himself, "I must place everything on the line for this Tournament and win!" The fire within raged hotter than ever before. ENDING: "Law won the tournament and earned the Mishima Zaibatsu fortune. His fighting spirit was now focused on rebuilding the Marshall China empire." Marshall is in his restaurant when some punks abuse him and his food. Marshall punches out first one, then the rest of the group. As a result of this he goes out of business (again). But this time he uses his anger and fighting spirit to reopen Marshall's Dojo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** x) Craig Marduk ************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 4: Craig is a new fighter in the tournament. He is 28 years old and a wrestler. Undefeated for four years in the professional circuit, Craig Marduk was once a respected and feared Vale Tudo fighter. However, Craig is expelled from the professional ranks after being linked to a minor scandal. Bitter against his peers and society, Craig's wrath consumed his soul. One day, Craig started a bar brawl in Arizona and killed an opponent during the fight (Armour King). Convicted for second-degree manslaughter, Craig was sentenced to 10 years in the state penitentiary. Two years later, Craig was mysteriously released from prison. Some anonymous "benefactor" (King) had apparently paid off numerous judiciaries to arrange for Craig's release. An envelope is delivered to Craig shortly after his release. Craig opens the envelope to find a plane ticket and an article about The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. ENDING: "For Marduk, fulfillment was elusive. 'Winning some tournament don't mean nothing'. When he realised where he was, he was heading back to the sites of his former glory." Craig stands in a Vale Tudo ring deep in contemplation. This reverie is shattered when the obnoxious Jeff Slater the current Vale Tudo champion walks up and tries to bait him into fighting. Craig tries to leave but Jeff blocks his path sneering at him. Suddenly Marduk head butts him and Jeff drops like a stone. "Don't bother getting up" snarls Craig as he walks over Jeff and out of the ring (Cool!). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************** y) Heihachi Mishima ************************ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Prologue: Heihachi was a difficult man to like. His father bought him up strictly and he was always surrounded by martial artists s he grew. As he trained to become the best fighter, he was also being groomed to take over the family business. When his father died, he became the owner of one of the largest business conglomerates in the worlds. Heihachi's lust for power and strength soon began to colour his whole outlook on life. He married and his wife tragically died in childbirth, delivering Heihachi his only child. Kazuya. Heihachi grieved his wife's death and threw him self further into training and business expansion. Kazuya was his bright hope for the future, he would be a powerful fighter and as strong and as driven as he was. But as Kazuya grew Heihachi could see that Kazuya had no steel in his soul, he was to emotional and caring. Heihachi decided to take drastic steps. Hurling Kazuya over a cliff was his way of forcing his son to become the strong, cold, fighter he always wanted his son to be. If it meant Kazuya would hate him then that was a small price to pay. He knew Kazuya had survived and kept tabs on his growing up, delighted every time he heard Kazuya had won another fight. In the meantime he adopted Lee Chaolan, hoping this would drive Kazuya to proving himself even more. TEKKEN: Heihachi called the first Iron Fist Tournament in the hope Kazuya could prove his worthiness to be called his son, by defeating him. Unfortunately he had massively miscalculated Kazuya's hatred of him. Kazuya was a man possessed and Heihachi immediately realised he was in trouble. He was beaten unconscious and came to a few day later at the bottom of a deep ravine. He managed to climb back up and was horrified to find tat Kazuya, with the help of Lee Chaolan had taken over his Financial Empire. TEKKEN 2: Heihachi found his old bodyguard Kuma the Bear and they both went into exile, training and plotting and waiting for a time to strike back at Kazuya. The opportunity came when Kazuya called the second Tekken Tournament. Heihachi enteredd and blasted though meeting Lee Chaolan in his penultimate fight. Lee tried to do a deal with Heihachi, if Lee stepped aside he could help Heihachi defeat Kazuya. Heihachi was contemptuous. He had always felt his adopted son cared for rewards of power, without the struggles necessary to achieve them. He beat Lee senseless, then made his way to Kazuya. He was shocked to see Kazuya in the throes of some kind of battle within himself, a shadowy devil figure and an angelic one fought round the tortured Kazuya. But when Kazuya saw his father the Devilish figure seemed to grow more powerful, the angelic one disappeared and the devilish figure merged with Kazuya. Kazuya now faced his father as Devil-Kazuya, the manifestation of all his hatred made flesh. But hatred on it's own is not always enough and although Devil Kazuya was awesomely powerful, Heihachi defeated him. Angry and a little frightened at the changes in his son, Heihachi decided to dispose of him for good. ENDING: Heihachi flies over a volcano and drops Kazuya inside the hot lava, just to be sure he stays dead...[This happened] TEKKEN 3: Heihachi retrieved the Mishima Financial Empire by defeating his son. Scheming to further develop the MFE, Heihachi organized "Tekken Force", the MFE's private corps and dispatched them to settle disputes and brought waste land under cultivation to feed the poor countries of the world to gain support of leaders worldwide. Fifteen years later, a secret excavation by the Tekken Forces in Central American ruins unearths an unusual find. A mysterious being annihilated them. Heihachi realized that the mysterious being could be the legendary God of Fighting, and took action to realize his life's goal, to capture the God of Fighting and therefore rule the world. One day, a 15-year-old boy named Jin Kazama visited Heihachi. Being informed that Jin was his grandson and hearing what had happened to his mother Jun, Heihachi reasoned that the God of Fighting thrives on the "strong souls" of others. Heihachi trained Jin to use him as a decoy to lure the God of Fighting The decoy works and Ogre appears in a temple that Heihachi decides to use as the final battleground in the King of Iron Fist 3 tournament. He himself stands as the penultimate challenge to those wishing to fight Ogre. When Jin finally reaches him, Heihachi is no match for his awesome blend of Jun and Kazuya's fighting styles and the devilish power that is beginning to be awoken by his proximity to Ogre. Heihachi watches as Jin defeats Ogre and triggers its transformation into its true form. He calls the Tekken Force to help him subdue Ogre, but before he can tell Jin to do the same, he finds Jin engaging true Ogre in battle. Jin beats Ogre and Ogre doesn't take it well, it explodes leaving a mess of fur, hoof, skin and blood everywhere. Jin is elated at beating the thing that killed his mother and turns to Heihachi for approval. Heihachi is enraged by this massive setback and orders the Tekken Force to shoot Jin. He then shoots Jin himself to make sure he's dead. He turns away, but bodies start flying past him. Jin rushes at him, eyes glowing red, wings sprouting from his back. Heihachi is powerless as Jin smashes him through a wall and then flies off. He can only watch and mull over this latest twist in the story of the Mishima bloodline. ENDING: Heihachi is in a helicopter and tips out the unconscious body of Jin as his devil attributes begin to appear [This didn't happen] TEKKEN 4: Heihachi used the remains of Ogre to try and merge his own DNA with. He could not because he lacked the compatible devil gene, shared by Kazuya and Jin. While looking for Jin he finds a picture of what he believes to be the burned corpse of Kazuya. He learn that the mysterious G-Corporation found the corpse 20 years ago and took it away for experiments. Heihachi organises a break in of the G-Corporations headquarters and discovers that they cloned Kazuya 20 years ago and he has been helping them ever since unlock the secret of the Devil Gene. Heihachi's men trash the place, but before they go Kazuya appears and in a rage at having his father come and mess things up again kills most of the Tekken Force in the building before disappearing. Now very intrigued, Heihachi decides its time for another tournament. The King of Iron Fist Tournament4 is announced. Heihachi knows after all this time Kazuya won't want to miss this father - son reunion.... ENDING: "Heihachi did not kill Kazuya outright. 'Come with me if you want to see your son' he said and led Kazuya out of the arena. A few hours later the two were deep within the Mishima Zaibatsu compound. A massive Temple stood in the midst of a forest shrouded in fog - the two stepped inside." As the walk inside kazuya looks up to see Jin unconscious, suspended by chains around his arms. Chains fly out and grab him around the arms as well. Hehiachi laughs and tells him the chains sap the strength of anyone with the Devil gene. Soon they will both be dead and he will achieve his ultimate objective.. "Thereafter the world came to know a new ages of darkness.." ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ********************* z) Kazuya Mishima/Devil/Angel ******************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Prologue: Kazuya Mishima was a kind young boy. His mother had died young leaving him under the tyrannical rule of his father, Heihachi. Kazuya trained hard in the Mishima Karate style and wanted to become the greatest fighter there ever lived. Heihachi saw his potential, but realised that his son lacked the hardness and drive he would need to become truly triumphant. Heihachi worst fears were realised one day when he saw his 8-year-old son comforting a young girl who was distressed over the death of a rabbit. He strode up to his son and angrily declared "you are weak, no son of mine will be this weak!" Scooping the young boy up he took him to the edge of a cliff. "Lions push their cubs over a cliff and only raise the ones that climb back up. If you are truly my son you will be able to climb back up." Ignoring Kazuya's screams he hurled him over the edge.... Kazuya lay broken and bloody at the bottom of the ravine. But he was still alive. Painfully he clambered up the side of the cliff, hatred for his father burning in his heart. But he was weak and his strength was ebbing away, even his hate might not be enough to give him strength. But something had noticed him... a dark shape appeared to the young boy and offered him all the strength he would ever need to take revenge on his father. Kazuya gladly sold his soul to the Devil that day, in return for unimaginable power. He finally reached the top of the ravine. "I will never forgive you father" he swore. "I will have my revenge one day". TEKKEN: 18 years after his father threw him over the cliff, 26-year-old Kazuya had trained and grown into a powerful fighter. A winner of many championships and only one fighter had ever fought him to a draw - Paul Phoenix. When he read about the King of Iron Fist Tournament Kazuya saw this as the perfect opportunity to take revenge on his father. During the Tournament Kazuya met Lee Chaolan - Heihachi's adopted son. Lee quickly saw that Kazuya could take out Heihachi and stepped aside, hoping that Kazuya remember his loyalty and reward him after the tournament. Facing Heihachi in the showdown, Kazuya utterly defeats him, his pent-up rage results in him beating Heihachi almost to death. ENDING: In one last gesture of vengeful pay-back he takes Heihachi's unconscious body to the same cliff he was thrown off many years ago. Slowly he lets his father go and watches with pleasure as Heihachi falls into oblivion. TEKKEN 2: Now 28 years old, Kazuya wields enormous power as the head of the Mishima conglomeration. He has fingers in many pies. Having kidnapped eminent scientist Dr. Boskonovitch he puts Lee Chaolan in charge of bio-weapons research. Also intrigued by the rumours around a scared treasure regained by Michelle Chang from Kunimitsu in the first tournament, he hires Ganryu to kidnap her mother, to force the secret of the treasure from her. Finally he recruits tormented Tai Kwon Do master Baek Doo-San to trash Marshall Laws Dojo, as he sees Marshall as a future source of unwanted competition. He has everything a young man could want and so decides to Organise a Second Iron Fist Tournament. But two things happen in the tournament that radically effect Kazuyas future. First of all he meets with Jun Kazama. This beautiful young woman had been sent to investigate his bio-weapons research. But he felt a strange bond to her, she was the little girl he had comforted on the day his father threw him off the cliff. He also feels the extraordinary goodness emanating from her, although every part of his Devil ridden soul is screaming out to kill her, something he hadn't felt for a long time stirred inside him..love. Unable to resist the strange forces between them, they slept with each other. Jun quickly left the tournament after that, missing the final showdown between Kazuya and Heihachi. Troubled, Kazuya was now faced with two manifestations of his personality - his hatred in the form of Devil and his goodness in the form of Angel, reawakened by his contact with Jun. Kazuya's hatred won and he accepts the full power of Devil inside him. The Devil was now part of Kazuya and he mutated into a lethal demonic creature with wings and the power to blast energy beam from his eyes. Truly Kazuya was un-defeat able. But he reckoned without the power of his father, after along and bloody battle Heihachi finally defeated Kazuya. "Even with the power of the Devil he could not defeat me" - his son was not worthy after all. To make sure he never returned Heihachi tossed Kazuya's body into a volcano. He did not notice the shadowy presence leaving Kazuya's body as it tumbled towards the hot lava. ENDINGS: Kazuya - rejecting the Devil, Kazuya instead fights it. Thinking it defeated he turns away. But the Devil fires energy blasts at his back. Heihachi, maybe in a moment of genuine fatherly feeling flings himself in the beams path. Concerned Kazuya reaches for him, then the anger returns and he lifts Heihachi's body up and runs towards Devil using his father's body as a shield. Tossing the dead body of Heihachi to one side he delivers the killer blow to Devil. Free of his father and the Devil, Kazuya looks forward to a life of peace. [This definitely did not happen!] ENDINGS: Devil - Angel is defeated and the Devil takes Kazuya. Together they become a raging beast of awesome power. The top blasts off the Mishima building and Devil-Kazuya has the power to control and destroy the world. [This Ending did not happen.] ENDINGS: Angel - The goodness reawakened by Jun summons the strength of all the good souls in the tournament. Together their combined effort casts out Devil and frees Kazuya's Soul. [This ending never happened.] TEKKEN 3: Kazuya is now considered dead. Although he lives on in his son Jin, who inherits Kazuya's "Devil Genes". TEKKEN 4: Defeated by Heihachi and thrown into the mouth of a volcano twenty years ago, Kazuya was brought back to life by G Corporation, a biotech firm making revolutionary advances in the field of biogenetics research. With G Corporation's aid, Kazuya investigated the mechanism of the Devil Gene that resides within his body by subjecting himself to genetic experiments. Kazuya believed that once he unlocked and controlled the power of the Devil Gene, he would be powerful enough to defeat Heihachi and destroy the Mishima Zaibatsu. Twenty years later, the Tekken Forces attacked a G Corporation research facility without warning and succeeded in stealing research data for the Mishima Zaibatsu. 49-year-old Kazuya learns that he was also a target in the attack. Infuriated that Heihachi once again ruined his plans, Kazuya is determined to seek his revenge against Heihachi more than ever. Kazuya instantly recognizes the announcement of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 as a trap set by Heihachi to lure him out. Despite this knowledge, Kazuya enters the Tournament it is his chance to defeat Heihachi. ENDING: "The tournament official sent Kazuya a message. 'The winner of round 7 by default is Kazuya Mishima. Please proceed to the final stage.' Though Kazuya sensed Heihachi's hand in Jin's disappearance a fearless grin crept across his face as he headed for the final stage. A few hours later the two were deep within the Mishima Zaibatsu compound. A massive Temple stood in the midst of a forest shrouded in fog - the two stepped inside." Kazuya's eyes glow red and he says he is the Devil. He needs his cells back from Jin to become complete. He smashes Heihachi across the floor sneering that his science couldn't answer his power. He then tries to pull the purple devil material out of Jin but it won't come. Then the Kazuya part of the Devil/Kazuya clone takes over and speaks of "unifying their power with this method." The red Devil eyes are gone. Jin drops down and they fight, but Kazuya beats him. He draws some white mist out of Jin and transforms into Devil Kazuya. "That day the Mishima Zaibatsu compound and everything surrounding it disappeared without trace." ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************* aa) Christie Monteiro *********************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 4: Christie is a new character in the series. She is 19 years old and a disciple of Capoeira. Christie is the granddaughter of the Capoeira master who taught Eddy Gordo the art of Capoeira during his incarceration in prison. While in prison, Eddy swore an oath to the master to pass on the art of Capoeira to his granddaughter. Eddy sought out Christie shortly after his return from The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 and taught her the art of Capoeira, just as he promised his master. After only two years of tutelage, Eddy turned Christie into an impressive fighter. But soon thereafter, Eddy abruptly disappeared, leaving Christie only with the words, "I must seek vengeance against the enemy responsible for the death of my father." Troubled by his sudden and mysterious disappearance, Christie chases after Eddy with her only lead - The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. ENDING: Crhistie stands triumphant, but she doesn't feel very triumphant. The media surround her, firng questions and taking pictures. She is not very responsive and wearily looks across the crowd. But then she spots a familiar figure. Hardly able to believe it she rushes through the crowd and hugs him, Eddy her missing mentor. With one hand in a sling he holds her too. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** bb) Mokujin ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: Mokujin was an ancient wooden Training Dummy sitting in a museum. Over many years it had absorbed the different fighting styles of all those who has trained on it. When the God of Fighting was awakened, some mysterious energy bought Mokujin to life and it broke out of the museum. Drawn by some strange compulsion it entered the third iron Fist Tournament in search of the creature that had given it life. ENDING: Mokujin takes out his frustrations with Mrs. Mokujin on a Tekken 3 Arcade machine. [This ending happened, probably....] TRIVIA: Mokojin is japanese for "wood person" and tetsujin is "metal person" ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************* cc) Ogre/True Ogre *************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: Ogre is disturbed by the excavations of Heihachis Tekken Force. The legend of Native Americans says the Ogre was the war weapon which creatures from outer space left on earth in ancient time. It understands entire structures of all living and artificial beings, and absorbs them. The key to controlling this being is held by Michelle Changs tribe. Her pendant is a key part of this secret. Ogre wanders the earth in search of strong souls. Over four years he absorbs many strong martial artists. These include Jun Kazama, Baek Doo-San, Wang Jinery (probably), King, Bruce Irvin (probably) and Lee Chaolan (only partially). Lurking in his temple hideaway, he senses that more strong souls are to come to him during the Third Tekken Tournament. He waits for them, some are too strong and defeat him! But he does not care, he is waiting for the strongest soul of them all, one he sensed four years ago when he absorbed Jun Kazama. But the time was not right then. In due time Jin comes to the temple, the power exuding from him is so great it triggers Ogres transformation into his true form. Now the huge bat-like demon prepares to absorn Jin, but Jin is too powerful. True Ogre is not just beaten, he is utterly destroyed! But his death has triggered the emergence of a new and even more fearsome Fighting Creature - Devil Jin. ENDING: Ogre transforms into True Ogre and fires the Tekken force sent to subdue him. [This happened before Jin splattered him all over the shop] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** dd) P-Jack ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Prototype Jack is created by the Mishima Corporation to defend Heihachi from the threat of the Russian Cyborg, Jack. Unfortunately P-Jack is handicapped. His mighty weaponry seemed to consist of having what looked like a snowplough for an arm and he was no match for the more sophisticated Jack. After he took control of the Mishima Corporation, Kazuya saw the potential of the Cyborg fighters and engineers the kidnap of the original Jack designer, Dr. Boskonovitch. Dr. B is forced to use his designs for the Jack - 2 range to create a better P-Jack. Before Dr. Boskonovitch can test the Prototype Jack properly, he is rescued by Yoshimitsu. Kazuya decides that the tournament will be the best place to test the new Cyborg and activates him anyway. P-Jack comes up against the "humanised" Jack - 2. Alas his wobbly hands are no match for Jack-2's power. He is beaten again. ENDING: P-Jack stomps about in his warehouse. He is not angry about his defeat; he is not programmed to feel emotions. He decides to test his flying capabilities, something he did not have a chance to try in the tournament. He shoots upwards, but leaves something behind...three screws. Too bad Dr. B never got a chance to test him properly. He explodes roughly 100 feet above the ground. Ooops. [This ending happened, and good riddance as well]. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** ee) Paul Phoenix ************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Paul Phoenix is a fiery young man of tremendous drive and talent. He is a great Judo fighter and well respected by many. One day he fights a strange young man called Kazuya to a draw and considers him a worthy rival. One day he hears of the First Iron Fist Tournament and enters. This is his chance to prove he is the greatest fighter of all time. As an added bonus he will get to fight Kazuya again. Unfortunatley he is slowed down during the tournament by Heihachi's bodyguard bear Kuma. By the time he finished fighting him it's too late and the tournament is over. But he did become friends with Marhsall Law on the way home. ENDING: Paul is practising. He uses his mighty "Death Fist" to ouch his way through a wall with a picture of Kazuya pinned to it. [This happened] TEKKEN 2: Paul enters again. He see's off Kuma again earned the right to fight Kazuya, but a multi-car accident on the expressway prevented Paul from getting to the match on time. He was forced to forfeit. ENDING: A pile of rocks blocks Paul's ride home. He powers up the death fist and smashes his way through [This did happened]. TEKKEN 3: Through Paul enviable career, he has yet to win the one tournament that would mark him as being one of the true greats. He received an unexpected invitation to the '3rd King of the Iron Fist Tournament'. With training still a part of his daily regiment, he is still in peak condition and feels he still has what it takes to win the big one. Thought now 46, he still has the eyes of an eagle with the strength and reflexes of a tiger He pop's over to Marshall's Dojo and finds his son Forrest training there. Paul was abit broke at this point in time and persuaded Forrest to enter as well. They rode off together on Paul's Harley, using Forrest's Credit Card to pay for the travel to Japan. Paul went undefeated through the entire The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 and was even victorious against Ogre. Swelling with pride, Paul returned home. However, Paul's happy ending was short-lived. Unknown to Paul, Ogre morphed into his second form - True Ogre - and the tournament continued after his departure. ENDING: Paul burns it down the Highway on his Harley. He gets pulled over for speeding and a cop gives him a ticket. [This did happen] TEKKEN 4: Although Paul asserted that he was the true champion of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, few believed him and even those that did eventually grew tired of his attitude. Friends and admirers slowly disappeared, and his dojo eventually went out of business from the lack of students. One day, Paul (now 48) came across a newspaper flyer announcing The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. Burning with the desire to win this Tournament, he decides to give it his all once again to prove that he is the one true champion, once and for all. He had to win! ENDING: "Paul became the undisputed World Champion of the tournament and assumed absolute power over Mishima Zaibatsu. Though Paul inherited Mishima Zaibtasu he let others handle the day to day affairs of the vast company. Eventually his executive position became nothing but a job title. In the end Abel's total control over him led him into a life of depravity. He spent all his days and nights partying. No trace of his valiant sprit remained." Paul and some floozy come out of a night club. The woman goes to get a taxicab, but Paul is indifferent to her. Suddenly he realises he is looking through the window of Marshall's dojo. On thew wall is a poster of him in his red martial arts outfit. Underneath lots of hunky young men are training. He cannot take his eyes of them and the poster of what he once was... a hero. Back on his bike, Paul tosses aside the dark glasses that symbolised his fall from grace. "Not my style" he says wryly and then roars off, to who knows where? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** ff) Roger and Alex *********************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 2: After his kidnap by Kazuya, Dr. B was put to work on an island laboratory looking at ways to genetically engineer a fighting gene. Lee Chaolan who was convinced that fighting ability was not some mystical force, but could be created genetically supervised these experiments. The first experiment produced Roger. Dr. B took a normal Kangaroo and augmented it's intellect and altered its genes to make it trainable like a human. It worked to a degree, Roger was powerful and strong, but was not vicious or motivated to kill. Lee ordered it's destruction and demanded Dr. B create a more terrifying monster. Dr. B could not bring himself to dispose of Roger and kept him around the lab for company. The Mishima Corporation provided Dr. B with everything he needed. Having determined that no creature living today could be manipulated into a super-fighter, he looked to the past. He requested the DNA of the Raptor dinosaur and this was duly provided. He quickly cloned and grew a Raptor. He again altered it so it would become receptive to training, unfortunately his first attempt produced Alex. Alex was small, strong and very powerful, but in increasing its intellect Dr. B had reduced its violent capacity. Alex was as easy going as Roger, and Dr. B panicked. Knowing Lee would be angry at this second failure he secretly released the pair, hoping they would escape and not have to face destruction. Dr. B carried on with the Raptor experiments, but they kept dying, or they were too uncontrollable. It was the remains of one failed experiment discovered by fishermen that drew Jun Kazama's attention to the activities of the Mishima Corporation. These experiments were eventually abandoned after Dr. B's escape. The failure of these and the P-Jack project led the Mishima corporation to believe their was no future in genetically engineering non-human fighters. With the removal of Lee Chaolan as head of the project, it was quietly forgotten. But what happened to Roger and Alex? After escaping the island laboratory they were discovered by Armour King. Armour King had become concerned about what he sensed from Kazuya Mishima. He decided that it couldn't hurt to have Roger and Alex enter the second Iron Fist Tournament as well himself and King. Maybe together they could stop the evil he now believed to be possessing Kazuya, evil that he feared could become a lethal, world destroying force. So he trained Roger and Alex intensively in the art of wrestling. They often drove him up the wall with their goofing about, but they were strong and learned quickly. Satisfied with their progress he entered them in the tournament. Both Roger and Alex fought well, but they became a bit freaked out by all the weird stuff that seemed to be going on around them. Before Heihachi took out Kazuya in the final showdown, Jun Kazama sought out Roger and Alex. She had been sent to investigate the Mishima Corporations illegal genetic experiments and here was living proof. But she quickly realised that these two jokers would be either killed or exploited if she reported them to her Bosses. She also saw that they would be in danger from the Mishima Corporation as well if they stayed around to long. She arranged for them to be secretly taken to Australia, where they could live undiscovered and unmolested in the Outback. ENDING: Roger - Safe in the Australian Outback, Roger runs with his fellow kangaroos. His heightened intelligence draws his attention to the documentary crew filming them. He can't resist a wave with one boxing gloved hand to the stunned filmmakers. ENDING: Alex - While his friend runs with the pack, Alex discovers fossil evidence of a long dead relative. Roger feels the wild spirit surging down the millennia, he may be the only one of his kind but he is not alone. He leaps in the air, a joyous celebration and tribute to the memory of his species. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ******************************* gg) Violet **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 4 - Violet is a majority shareholder and the de facto leader of a manufacturer of humanoid robots. Apparently a fighter in his past, he lived a quiet life in a mansion in the Bahamas. Bored by his career lifestyle, Violet decided to enter The King of the Iron Fist Tournament 4. The senior executives in his company wrote this off as the mere diversions of a rich man. In any event, there were no weaknesses in Violet's physique, forged by state of the art training equipment. There was another significant reason for his entrance in the tournament. Violet believed that he could complete the ultimate fighting weapon based on his pursuit of developing advanced humanoids. He believed in a utopian world where inorganic humanoids would carry out the will of their human masters. But the tide of technology in the world favoured biotechnology. The Mishima Zaibatsu and Heihachi Mishima were part of this movement, seekers of unfathomable power through genetic engineering. Violet accelerated the development of a prototype humanoid for the tournament. If the prototype could be completed in time, he could leverage this tournament as an excellent PR tool. Violet's mind was filled with visions of him and his prototype dominating The King of the Iron Fist Tournament 4. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** hh) Anna Williams *********************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Anna Williams is the sister of assassin Nina Williams. She is also trained in the assassin's arts and hates her sister. While they were training one day their father was killed in an explosion, both blame each other for his death. On hearing that Nina was to enter the First iron Fist Tournament she also enters, just to spoil Nina's plan. TEKKEN 2: Anna has become "friendly" with Kazuya Mishima. When she hears that Nina is to enter the Second Iron Fist Tournament she immediately suspects that Nina is up to something and goes to intercept her. After another ridiculously destructive battle Nina is captured. Kazuya confided some alarming news to Anna. Her sister Nina was going to be made a guinea pig of Dr. Boskonovitch's "Cold Sleep". As much as they quarreled, Anna would miss her sleeping sister. Worse yet, she would continue to age while her sister was frozen in time! She too went to Boskonovitch, who also subjected her to the Cold Sleep, and asked to be awakened along with Nina. ENDING: Anna is having a shower. Nina sneaks in and takes a picture of her in the buff, Oh Madam! [This happened before the tournament] TEKKEN 3: Sensing the God of Fight's evil presence, both Nina and Anna awoke 19 years later. Making an effort to continue their sibling rivalry, Anna was saddened to find that her sister had somehow lost all memory of her. Now, rather than fighting, Anna felt the need to help Nina and prevent her from again becoming an assassin. She intercepts Nina at the tournament and persuades her to come with her to see Dr. B. Once Jin kills True Ogre the spell over Nina was broken and she felt lost and confused. No memory of anything. She clings to Anna as the only shred of identity she has left. ENDING: Nina and Anna take a holiday. Relaxing on the beach, Nina is annoyed by Anna's preening in front of the men. She walks up to her and twangs her bikini top off! Ooer, Anna's chest is on display again. Nina walks off, smiling to herself..it's all coming back to her now....[This happened, but only in Japan] ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** ii) Nina Williams ************************ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: 20-year-old Irish assassin, Nina Williams is hired by persons unknown to assassinate Heihachi Mishima. During the tournament she comes up against her sisters Anna Williams. They hate each other, both blaming the other for the death of their father. Anna and Nina have an awesomely violent confrontation and by the time they have finished, Nina is in no state to assassinate anyone. ENDING: Nina and Anna are at home, they fight over a shoe and Nina slaps Anna round the chops. [This happened] TEKKEN 2: For some reason Nina is hired again, this time to assassinate Kazuya Mishima (possibly by Lee Chaolan). But once again she gets in a fight with Anna before she can accomplish her mission. This time she is captured and put into cryogenic sleep by Dr. Boskonovitch. ENDING: Nina places flowers on her father's grave, she hears and noise and turns - gun drawn. Anna is behind her. Nina lowers the gun and stalks off. [This must have happened before the tournament]. TEKKEN 3: In the last tournament Nina was ordered to assassinate Kazuya, but an untimely quarrel with her sister Anna prevented it. She was captured by Kazuya's corps and were used as guinea pigs in Boskonovitch's Cold Sleep No. 2 experiment. They did not wake up for 15 years. Heihachi's private corps, the Tekken Forces went to the burial site and excavated the God of Fighting. This unearthing unleashed its spirit which awakened Nina's resting soul. Now controlled by the God of Fighting Nina acts robotically with the command to assassinate Jin Kazama. However Anna, now concerned about her sister, manages to remove her from the tournament before she can complete her mission or get killed in the process. ENDING: Anna has taken Nina to see Dr. B, he cannot undo her memory loss. Saddened Anna takes Nina to their father's grave. Suddenly memories overwhelm Nina, she collapses, then rises and slaps Anna. Shouting at her she leaves. Anna rubs her cheek and smiles; at least Nina has started to remember... TEKKEN 4: It seems that Nina never regained memories of her past life after that one incident.... After the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2, the Mishima Zaibatsu used Nina as an experimental test subject for cryogenics research. Fifteen years later, Nina was released from cryosleep and appeared in the third Tournament. She fought through the Tournament while suffering from cryosleep-induced amnesia. Since then, Nina disappeared from the reaches of the Mishima Zaibatsu and spent her days carrying out missions as a contract assassin. To this day, she has been unable to regain memories of Anna or her personal life. As a woman without memories or close relations, the only person Nina could count on was herself. Carrying out her hits for profit was the only reality she could rely on. One day, Nina received a new contract from a Mafia organization. The target of the contract was Steve Fox, a boxing world champion. With a little research, Nina discovered that Fox was a participant in the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. Nina set her sights on completing her new mission and infiltrated the Tournament. ENDING: "After winning the tournament, Nina pursued her target Steve Fiox to his hotel room. While preparing for the hit the syndicate send Nin additional information on the target." Nina discovers that Steve is her son, conceived while she was in cryosleep. As she targets him for the hit, she draws back, unable to kill her son. Lei then bursts into the room, so she escapes though the open window. As she reaches Steve, Lei appears again pointing his gun at her. Steve knocks him down. Nina turns to Steve, "thanks" she says, then jogs off, leaving Steve open-mouthed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** jj) Lei Wulong ************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 2: Lei Wulong is a detective with the Hong Kong International Police Force. His partner is Bruce Irvin. Together they are a crime-busting partnership. Bruce Irvin is also a highly respected Kick Boxing Champion, a hero to many children. Bruce is sent to investigate reports of corrupt activities by Kazuya, but on the way to Japan his plane crashes. Bruce survives but without any memory of his past. Kazuya recruits him as his personal bodyguard. Lei decides to enter the Second Iron Fist Tournament to retrieve his friend Bruce and continue investigating the Mishima Corporation. During the tournament he is matched with Bruce. But Bruce has no memory of Lei and they end up having a ferocious battle. Bruce manages to escape. After the tournament, Bruce's homeward bound plane crashed against the ground. Rumour had it that Kazuya sabotaged the plane in order to silence him, but Lei thinks it might be a disguised accident and doubts if Bruce is dead. ENDING: Lei returns to his police station and lets off steam on the shooting range. [This happened] TEKKEN 3: For 18 years since then, Lei has solved a lot of international crimes. He is such an agile person that doesn't look 45 years old. He earns the nickname "Supercop". The cases of the prominent martial artists that are missing frequently happen within the jurisdiction of his station. Lei, who was investigating the cases, was visited by Heihachi Mishima, the head of Mishima financial group, who asked Lei to participate in "The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3". Lei couldn't understand the reasons why Heihachi asked him to participate, but he made up his mind to go anyway. During the tournament he sees Ogre in action and realise that the missing Martial Arts masters had been killed and absorbed by Ogre. He is also saddened when he sees Ogre using several of Bruce Irvin's signature moves. It seems that Bruce did not die in the plane crash, but met his death at the hands of Ogre. Finally able to mourn his dead friend Lei leaves the tournament before Jin and Heihachi's showdown. ENDING: Lei takes some time off to recuperate. He relaxes at a remote Buddhist temple and practises his Kung Fu. [This happened] TEKKEN 4: Lei's life was consumed as usual by police work. Unfortunately for Lei, his live-in girlfriend got fed up with Lei's workaholic lifestyle and dumped him in favour of Lei's assistant. Ironically, the assistant acted as a liaison for Lei whenever she wanted to get in touch with him at work. When Lei found out about this, he became extremely depressed. Around the same time, Lei botched an operation to bring a crime syndicate to justice. Lei failed to capture an agent of the syndicate who would have enabled the police to take down the syndicate's boss. The failure cost the police force two years worth of intense undercover investigations. Rival detectives who were jealous of Lei's stellar case record saw this as an opportunity to damage Lei's career. Unbeknownst to Lei, the rivals reported to Lei's superiors that he botched the operation by "allowing personal affairs to affect his job performance." As a result of this betrayal, Lei wound up on a one-month suspension from active duty. Soon after his suspension, Lei learned from an informant that the syndicate was plotting to assassinate a boxer participating in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4. The syndicate apparently hired an assassin for the hit. Lei thought that he could gain valuable information from the boxer about the syndicate. If all went as planned, he could also capture the assassin and establish a plausible connection between the assassin and the syndicate. Lei reasoned that this would aid efforts to bring the syndicate down. Lei entered the Tournament with the hope of redeeming his honour. ENDING: "After winning the tournament, Lei headed to the Mishima Zaibatsu data centre to dig up information on the syndicates hired assassin." Lei finds out Nina is the syndicate assassin and tracks her to the opposite the Hotel where Steve is staying. He fires at her, but she escapes out of the window. He slides down the drainpipe and chases after her. When he catches up with her, Steve knocks him down, but not before he has wounded her in the leg. In next days papers her confession has brought down the whole syndicate. Well done Jackie Chan, er I mean Lei Wulong! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************** kk) Ling Xiayou ************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN 3: This 16-year-old girl loves theme parks. Her dream is to build the perfect amusement park in China when she grows up. She is both young and small in stature but Ling is a skilled martial arts expert. Many believe if she was more serious she could achieve real greatness. Having learned that the Mishima Financial Empire is rich and powerful she seeks out Heihachi (president and CEO) to make her dream a reality. While vacationing in Hong Kong with her family, Ling stowed away on a yacht bearing the name, Mishima Financial Empire. Heihachi was not on board but Mishima's men discovered her soon after the ship left port and Heihachi was informed immediately. Upon his arrival, Heihachi found his men beaten and strewn around the ship as if it was hit by a hurricane. She threatened that she would go berserk again if he did not accept her challenge. Roaring with laughter, he promises to build the amusement park of her dreams if she wins the tournament ENDING: Ling Xiayou does superbly in the Tournament; she beats Heihachi AND beats Ogre. But like several other fighters, misses the confrontation with True Ogre. Heihachi agrees to build her a Theme Park - Xiayou World. Sadly he has double-crossed her. He unveils the completed park as Heihachi World and roars with laughter again at the joke he has pulled on her. Xiayou is unhappy. She beats the crap out of Heihachi (again), and stalks off in a huff. [This ending definitely happened and if you ask me Heihachi had it coming!] She returns to Mishima High with Panda and carries on with her studies. She is unsettled to note that her schoolmate Jin has not returned, dark rumours circulate about what happened in the final showdown with True Ogre. Heihachi keeps a close eye on her, knowing of her friendship with Jin he believes he may try and contact her. He may be able to use her in the future to lure Jin out into the open. TEKKEN 4: Now 18, Ling was a senior at Mishima High School. She still lived, studied and trained as a ward of the Mishima Zaibatsu. But lacking any particular goals, Ling grew tired of her everyday routines. However, one day, she received an anonymous e-mail that warned her of Heihachi's evil intentions and of danger to her life. Ling replied to the e-mail, but she did not receive any further messages from the anonymous individual. Ling's intuition told her that Jin, who had been missing since the last Tournament, could have sent the message. She believed the message and started to suspect Heihachi and the Mishima Zaibatsu. Upon hearing the announcement of the next Tournament, Ling made the decision to enter - hoping to be reunited with Jin and to unveil the truth behind Heihachi and the Mishima Zaibatsu. ENDING: "Xiayou defeated Heihachi. No one foresaw the outcome. Soon thereafter Xiayou learned of Heihachis many evil deeds. He was clearly guilty of supporting the raids on G-Corporation. The evil nature of Mishima Zaibatsu was revealed." Xiayou is "working" in her new office and new role as head of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Her best friend Miharu comes to visit her. Miharu comments that Xiayou has changed a lot, very independent and focused. Xiayou sys this came from her meeeting with Jin after the tournament when he told her to follow her dreams. Miahru teases her about her relationship with Jin then tells Xiayou she flunked her exams. Xiayou asks her to come and work with her on making her ultimate dream a reality. They both go to the window and stare out over a huge theme park.. can it be finally.. Xiayou World? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** ll) Yoshimitsu ************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TEKKEN: Yoshimitsu is a ninja, part of the mysterious "Manji" Clan. He is the latest in a long line of Yoshimitsu's dedicated to expose corruption and stealing ill-gotten money to give to the poor. Yoshimitsu hears of a powerful Sumo wrestler called Ganryu who has been involved in fraudulent activity. Disgusted that a man could follow the honourable Sumo code and yet lead a life of criminality he finds out that Ganryu has entered the first Tekken Tournament. Yoshimitsu enters as well to confront Ganryu. He beat Ganryu and forces him to confess everything about his crimes, Yoshimitsu and some others in the "Manji Clan" take Ganryu's money, expose his crimes and leave him disgraced. ENDING: Yoshimitsu and others ride though a poor part of town. They throw money everywhere. They are modern day Robin Hoods, hooray! [This ending happened] TEKKEN 2: Now Yoshimitsu was suspicious of the Mishima Empire, another in his clan - Kunimitsu had demanded that the Manji Party use their abilities to become a powerful world-dominating force. Yoshimitsu disagreed; he ejected Kunimitsu after she attempted to steal his precious Sword. Now he learns she has gone to Kazuya Mishima and worries about what she is plotting. He and several members of his clan break into Mishima Headquarters, but Yoshimitsu is seriously injured. His arm is lost. In the building at the time was Dr. Boskonovitch, updating Lee Chaolan on the progress with the artificially created fighters. Shocked at the violence he witnesses, he manages to get Yoshimitsu to a safe place and gives him a new bio-mechanical arm. Yoshimitsu swears to Dr. B that he will rescue him from the clutches of the Mishima's. Yoshimitsu then enters the Tournament and comes up against Kunimitsu. Angry at her persistent attempts to undermine his authority and disgusted by her power-hungry attitudes he finally decides to rid himself of her for good. He kills Kunimitsu and then is contacted by another clan member. Dr. B is being helicoptered back to the island laboratory. Yoshimitsu leaves the tournament. ENDING: Yoshimitsu crashes into the helicopter carrying Dr.B. He drags him out and using his sword-helicopter move, he brings them safely to the ground. The Mishima Corp helicopter explodes in the distance. [This ending happened] TEKKEN 3: Boskonovitch created the Cold Sleep machine during experiments in his search for eternal life. The technology, still unproven, was used to preserve his young daughter who suddenly passed away. Yoshimitsu raises research funds and as the leader of the "Manji" party he helps the poor and disadvantaged. Yoshimitsu visited Boskonovitch when he learned of the many martial artist disappearances. Yoshimitsu was surprised to find Boskonovitch suffering from a mysterious pathological organism. It's believed to have been contracted during lab experiments while making the Cold Sleep machine. Boskonovich claims he needs blood from the God of Fighting to complete his research and bring his daughter back to life. Indebted to Boskonovitch for saving his life, Yoshimitsu enters the tournament to help an old friend. ENDING: After Jin splattered True Ogre all over the place, they were able to gain a sample of Ogres Blood. Taking it back to Boskonovitch secret lab they test it out on a rat to see its effects. The rat grows to humoungous size! Yoshimitsu has to tuck the Doc under his arm and run like mad to avoid the ever-growing rat! Clearly it is potent stuff...maybe Dr. B can use its power to realise the dream of reviving his daughter and curing himself... [This ending happened] TEKKEN 4: As the leader of the Manji Party, Yoshimitsu dedicated himself to providing food, medical assistance, and shelter to the ever-increasing number of political refugees around the world. Unfortunately, with a constant lack of necessary funding and manpower, Yoshimitsu was unsure about the future of his organization. When Yoshimitsu heard about The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, he envisioned a union between the Manji Party and the Mishima Zaibatsu. With this dream in mind, Yoshimitsu decides to enter the Tournament immediately. He must defeat Heihachi Mishima at any cost ENDING: "When word of victory reached the Manji clan they were estatic. Their long awaited wish would come true. Yoshimitsu knew better than to trust Heihachi. Yoshimitsu gave and order to his clan memebers then headed to Heihachi's manor." Heihachi refuses to hand over his fortune to Yoshimitsu and the Mani party calling them "meddling" and "spreaders of dissent". Yoshimitsu calmly faces Heihachi and warns him of the penalties for treading the path of evil. Heihachi laughs in his face, but then word reaches him that the Manji clan have landed a helicopter on his treasure vault and taken off with it! Enraged he orders his men to fire on Yoshimitsu, but his body armour keeps him safe. He spreads his new fly-like wings and takes off, escaping through the skylight. Heihachi and only watch and fume impotently. ======================================================================= ************************ 4) TEKKEN PLOT FAQ *************************** ======================================================================= After reading my explanation of the Tekken Plot some of you more familiar to the series may question why I came to some of the conclusions I did. So I've listed here some of the most asked questions about the Tekken Storyline and how I came my version of events. Q1. Why is Kunimitsu targeting Michelle in TEKKEN? A: Kunimitsu is Michelle's sub-boss in Tekken. Although Michelle is in the tournament Officially to avenge the death of her father and the destruction of her village, it is not clear why Kunimitsu is her sub-boss. It seems likely that Kunimitsu has heard of Michelle's pendant and the great power it can summon. It is reasonable therefore to attribute that motivation to Kunimitsu. It also makes it easier to explain Kunimitsu's actions between TEKKEN and TEKKEN 2. After being kicked out of the Manji clan, she goes to Kazuya and tells him about the pendant. That is how he comes to know about it and sends Ganryu off to kidnap Michelle's Mother. Q2. Why is Wang Jinery Marshall's sub-boss in TEKKEN? A: This is rather unclear, but it looks like Wang may be looking for strong fighters who may be able to temper Kazuya's power. Marshall does not fit the bill, which is why he becomes Jun's sub-boss in Tekken 2. Q3. Why is Yoshimitsu fighting Ganryu in TEKKEN? A: This is also unclear. We know that Ganryu is corrupt; we also know that in Yoshimitsu's ending we see him with a lot of money. He did not win the Tournament and Marshall seems to have taken the runners-up prize money. We know that Yoshimitsu is dedicated to wealth redistribution, especially of corruptly acquired money, so I made the assumption that he takes all of Ganryu's money and exposes him. In Tekken 2, Ganryu is now in disgrace and working for Kazuya. So it is reasonable to assume that Yoshimitsu was responsible. Q4: For a character that only appeared in TEKKEN 3, Dr. B seems to have a lot of history.... and what's he got to do with Roger and Alex? A: Yeah, I freely admit that with this one I used the Dr. Boskonovitch character outlined in Tekken the movie. This is a scientist who has been kidnapped to work for the Mishima's. He is working on an Island laboratory under the supervision of Lee Chaolan. He creates Roger the Boxing Kangeroo and an army of lethal Raptor dinosaurs that (in the film), Lee unleashes on the Tekken fighters. (In a rather amusing scene, one of them bites Anna's head off!). I used this to reason that Dr. B probably created Roger and Alex in the game storyline. The rest of Dr. B's history can be pieced together from his Official Tekken 3 profile and Yoshimitsu's profile in Tekken 2 and 3 and the ending of Tekken 2. Q5. Talking of Roger and Alex..did that really happen? A: I consider Roger and Alex part of the Tekken Story. I reasoned that they somehow escaped from Mishima labs and hooked up with Armour King. I decided this because they both use Armour Kings Fighting Style. So he must have tutored them for the tournament. As both their endings see them in the Australian Outback, I decided that someone must have arranged for them to end up there. Jun was the most likely candidate as her Official TEKKEN 2 profile says she had come to the Tournament to investigate the genetic experiments the Mishima Corp were getting up to. As she was a gentle soul, she would not have wanted them to be recaptured and experimented on, so I feel she got them to safety. Q6. I find it hard to believe Jun and Kazuya got it together... A: Yeah, you, me and every other person left going "hmmmm" when Jins father was revealed. But again Tekken the Movie provided a more convincing explanation. In the movie Kazuya and Jun meet as children. Kazuya is a kind boy and comforts a crying Jun. Heihachi is disgusted by this display of weakness and that's when he hurls Kazuya off a cliff. Jun searches for Kazuya, but cannot find him. As she grows up she has constant nightmares of the event, she also starts dreaming of the little boy revealing himself to be a demon. When they finally meet up in the tournament her strong spiritual connection to him through the years makes her try everything to talk Kazuya out of taking his revenge on Heihachi. She sees it as the only way to prevent the Devil consuming Kazuya completely. In the Movie, her love for him prevents Kazuya giving into the dark forces inside him. In the game that does not happen, but it is feasible to assume that she did have some connection with Kazuya and him to her. Unfortunately in this instance her love could not save him and she leaves pregnant with his child, as Kazuya meets death at the hands of Heihachi. Q7: What happened to Lee Chaolan? A: My history of Lee Chaolan is drawn from suppositions made from his game appearances and Tekken the Movie. In Tekken he is the sub-boss of Kazuya, which makes sense. Heihachi probably adopted Lee just to annoy Kazuya even more. However the fact that Lee is working for Kazuya in Tekken 2 leads me to believe that he stepped aside in Tekken hoping Kazuya would take Heihachi down and reward him with a better position in the company. In the movie Lee is interested in the experiments to create non-human fighters, so it is not unfair to assume he took charge of Dr. B's activities. In Tekken 2 he is Heihachi's sub-boss. Again I believe he either stepped aside or threw the fight in the hope that Heihachi and Kazuya would destroy each other. In his Tekken 2 ending he is seen in charge of the company, as Kazuya and Heihachi sit in a cell. This of course didn't happen, but it throws light on his true motivations. Finally I think after Tekken 2, Heihachi disowned Lee and ran him out of town for his betrayals and lack of will to be the best fighter. Personally I also think Lee was another of Ogres victims. The proof? Ogre can perform Lee's infinity kick combo. Oh well, bad luck Lee. Q8: HANG ON JUST A MINUTE...I saw screenshots of Lee in Tekken 4! A: Oh crap, well my wonderful theory about Lee being killed by Ogre seems to have been disproved as it look very much like 'Violet' is Lee in disguise. Lee must have retired to the Bahamas after Tekken 2, so Heihachi obviously ran him out of town and he is still fascinated by artificial life, so I got that right as well. Anyway, Ogre could still have attacked him and partially absorbed his soul, he did it to King after all. Maybe Lee just survived whereas King didn't. Anyway, I've changed Lee Chaolan's profile now. Thank god for updates eh? Q9: So just how many people beat Ogre at the end of Tekken 3? A: The evidence is several people beat Ogre, but only Jin triggered its transformation into True Ogre. Paul beat Ogre, his Official Tekken 4 profile states as much. Julia Chang also beat Ogre, her Tekken 3 ending explicitly states she did. Ling Xiayou must also have beaten Ogre, why else would Heihachi have built the theme park, even if he was pulling a fast one on her? But only Jin actually won, but then he got shot. My brain hurts, why would anyone enter this tournament as only the Mishima family ever seem to win it? I'd cry fix if I was one of the participants! **************** ALTERNATE VIEWPOINTS - READERS MAIL ************************ SO some people have disagreed with some of my conclusions. Here is your forum to make your alternative theories known. LEE CHAOLAN Isn't DEAD!!! XxOrochiFlamexX was one of many to disapprove of my Lee gets killed by Ogre theory. Now we know it didn't happen officially and I have altered Lee's biog. But I must give credit to the first proof I was sent. "I think that perhaps Ogre didn't attack him at all. It was stated that various martial artists around the world disappeared. Maybe he attacked another martial artist who fought similar to Lee, therefore taking his moves. Now onto Tekken 4. Lee could have changed his name to "Violet" only so Heihachi wouldn't discover him in the time that he left to do his own dirty deeds. It's obvious also that Lee or Violet, could be in the forth tournament also to take control of the Mishima Zaibatsu to expand his own branch. I've beaten Tekken 4 with Violet, and once you make it to Heihachi, his character picture changes to Lee, and he removes the shades and purple hair. He keeps the same outfit though." Thanks XxOrochiflamexX! WANG JINERY'S FIGHTING STYLE I admit I only called Wangs Style Tai Chi as he used a few circling and push hands attacks I have seen Tai Chi fighters use, however an expert on these matters (nick) put me straight on Wang's true fighting style. "Wang Jinrey uses Shinirokugoken, or Xin Yi Liu He Quan, not Tai Chi. I Don't think he's got any moves that are immediately similar to Tai Chi. The basis of Tai Chi are the circular movements of the arms and hands, something which I believe Wang doesn't have in any or most of his attacks at all. Also, the basis of Tai Chi is not dodging, but understanding the mechanics of force and motion, and making use of leverage and circular motion, which is actually the Chinese basis of yin n yang strength. Also, Chen's TaiChi is famous for rapid forceful movements, but the techniques of circular motion remain. TaiChi doesn't necessarily have to be slow. Shinirokugoken, or Xin Yi Liu He Quan, is a martial art commonly used by Chinese Muslims, and is known to be a very strong and forceful, mainly martial art. This style is very straightforward and powerful, and known for its straight-line attacks like head butts and forward pushes/punches. I recall Gen Fu of Dead or Alive also uses this style." So I'll be adding some more info to the Martial Arts guide to cover these new styles soon! KAZUYA AND JUN John Bass emailed me an excellent theory taking a more spiritual approach to the whole Jun and Kazuya relationship. "While on the Jun/Kazuya subject. It amazes me that they both found time to conceive a son in the middle of a fight tournament. I don't think it was a loving, mutual thing, though. This isn't very thought out, but I believe that the Devil in Kazuya may have caused Kazuya to force himself onto Jun. The Devil would get Kazuya to do this, because the Devil might be able to since Jun is spiritually inclined and a child between Kazuya and Jun would create a child to in which the Devil would have a better chance of asserting itself and will through, whereas Kazuya's will or spirit is not strong enough. This is why I believe (read somewhere) that the devil later tries to possess Jun's baby, but she runs away (maybe from the tournament). Anyway, Devil doesn't realize that there is a drawback when Jun and Kazuya are together. Jun has an angel within her which envelops Kazuya, and cuts off Devils plans to possess the unborn child right at the moment of conception. This was the plan all along I believe, and even though Jun did truthfully enter the tournament to investigate into the disappearances and safety of endangered species. Her spirit was guiding her to end the force of evil behind the corporation, even if it meant something bad would happen to her in the process. Anyway, a battle ensues between angel and devil within Kazuya, while Jun either runs off, to weary and bruised to move, and or just unconscious or passed out. Devil ends up winning over angel, but the spiritual battle leaves devil to weak to give Kazuya the supernatural strength he needs and used to beat Heihachi in the first Tournament. Thus Heihachi beats Kazuya, senseless. I believe you have Heihachi beating Devil/Kazuya. I don't think this is possible. Heihachi is only human. He could never beat the devil, but he could always best Kazuya. Kazuya knew this, that's why he enlisted the power of the devil through hate and revenge in the first place. Kazuya knew he couldn't beat his father alone. Heihachi was even surprised by the power Kazuya had after the first tournament. I don't believe though that Heihachi was even aware of the devil power until Jin made it manifest in front of him. Heihachi is to concerned with the material world and "the fist" to see a spiritual realm. He was too concerned with seeing the power of OGRE to recognize that a greater power existed right in front of his eyes in Jin and Heihachi was just using Jin as a pawn to draw out Ogre. Now Heihachi is aware of that power in Jin and Kazuya and he wants to tap it somehow." The idea that Kazuya may have actually raped Jun is something that Namco seem to have danced around rather. The film brings in the prior relationship to help strengthen the notion of Jun's attachment to Kazuya. But if you are just going from the games events, this is more plausible. Although I stand by version I teased out from the general events and the film, this is certainly food for thought and it would be interesting to see if the endings for Tekken 4 take this more spiritual approach to the cursed inheritance of the Mishima's. Something that seems to be present in Tekken tag Tournament as well (see below). ======================================================================= ********************* TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT *************************** ======================================================================= This has its own separate section as, if Namco says it is not part of the Tekken story cannon then it isn't. However I have had some intriguing theories about the game emailed to me and so have decided to cover them here in there own separate section. First here is a theory Apollo sent me about what happened to Jun Kazama and how she causes the events of Tekken Tag. "Jun didn't die at Ogre's hand she actually fled, but Ogre's power warped existence and Jun was pulled into it's lure. Jun became Unknown from Tekken Tag. Unknown is possessed by the evil spirit of Ogre and Jun's kind, nature spirit were warped (Notice the wolf demon). This warping of nature created a nightmare time frame in which time doesn't exist and all fighters in the Tekken series (with the exception of Tekken 4, obviously) are brought into this warp. Since Ogre is the fighting God all forms of fighting energy are in this realm. Jun's human form joins with the other fighter's to try to destroy the nightmare that is in her soul. Families are reconnected, friends are teaming up. Even rivals are teaming up. Wang passed his abilities on to a worthy successor Ling Xiayou in this nightmare world. Although unbeknownst to the other fighter's that have no recollection, Jin's demon form and Xiayou's subconscious still remember these events. After a gruelling match Jun's good soul manages to break free from the corrupt nature spirit. She manages to free her soul from Ogre and Jin's victory in Tekken 3 sets her imprisoned form free. Unknown is the Devil form of Jun that was possessed by Ogre, she has all the fighting styles of all Tekken characters due to Ogre being the God of fighting. The nightmare that is Tekken Tag is Jun Kazama's final nightmare before she finally dies. Fortunately Jun's soul breaks free before Ogre is destroyed and the rightful heir to Wang's style has his influence in her memory and Jun's youthful nature spirit is passed to Ling Xiayou who like Jun is drawn to the Mishima bloodline heir." Thanks Apollo. OK now I've had a chance to play TTT myself I agree wholeheartedly with further interpretations of the individual character endings given by Apollo. Basically each ending can be seen as a nice dream, a fearful nightmare or a kind of neutral flashback to a prior event. CHARCATER ENDINGS FOR TEKKEN TAG Unknown: The forest demon tries to consume Jun completely using the good that's in her even after being supposedly consumed she breaks free of the forest demon.(This definitely happens in the nightmare realm) Jun Kazama: She is the embodiment of good in this twisted reality. She thinks only of her son Jin who is lying unconscious getting ready to be possessed by the Devil. She uses her soul power to rid Jin of the Devil and disappears. Jin wakes up and mouths the words mom. (This may have happened as a dream of Jin's) Kazuya: Kazuya fights with Jin and then defeats him he leaves Jin's supposed lifeless body on the floor. Jin begins to transform into Devil Jin and Kazuya prepares for a rematch. (This is definitely a nightmare, Jin and Kazuya would not meet until Tekken 4) Jin: He defeats Kazuya and picks him up ready to deliver the final blow but he can't do it. He drops his dad and sobs (This is Jin's nightmare hesitation that he cannot defeat his own cursed bloodline embodied by Kazuya. This happens for Jin all the time he must overcome this fear). Lee: Lee pictures himself beating up Kazuya and Heihachi and smiles. (A fantasy of Lee's) Hwoarang: He talks to Jin he is a little upset. As he kicks the ground and mouths c'mon, Jin walks on not interested.(Hwoarang's nightmare) Baek: Baek gives some words of wisdom to Hwoarang who gives the shoulder shrug and sighs all while in a seated position and finally concedes by mouthing you're right. (A flashback possibly) Nina: a handshake with her sister results in Nina giving Anna an arm lock. (This happens all the time these two meet even in their nightmares) Anna: finally Anna thinks she can shake and make up with Nina. Not a chance Anna is arm locked and pays for her naiveté. (This is Anna's nightmare never a resolution with her sister.) Eddy: He teams up with his friend Tiger to go through some cool kata. (This is Eddy's nice dream) Tiger: He is dancing at the fair grounds. (Definitely a dream much like his Tekken 3 ending except at the fair and not on the dance floor.) Law: Practicing Kata with Paul. Punch, Kick, Round kick, Turn Punch, Kick, Round kick turn to face each other Punch Kick NUTCRACKER!!! (This maybe a flashback, or Law's nightmare!) Devil: Notices Jun laying on the ground unconscious and swoops down to pick her up and flies away. (This is Devil's nightmare he would never want anything to happen to Jun.) Angel: She notices Kazuya lying on the ground and goes over to him and removes the Devil spirit from him Kazuya wakes up stunned. (This never happened but it shows that the Angel part of Kazuya was influenced by Jun.) True Ogre: In the air battle with Devil with Full on Lasers and fire. (This is what Ogre lives for battle so this is Ogre's dream.) Julia: Finds her mom and has a nice talk. (Only in a dream) Michelle: Julia find's Michelle basking in the sun and they stop and talk for a while. (Michelle is definitely dreaming a peaceful day and a daughter her age) Alternate Xiayou: She catches up with Jin to have a small chat session. (This could have happened prior to Tekken 3 or it could be her dream after Tekken 3 to see Jin Face to Face.) Ling Xiayou rides away on Panda (Nice dream or flashback) Kuma: Dance bear dance! Dance for Heihachi while he claps and smiles (Certainly a dream of Kuma's, to make Heihachi happy and proud of him) Panda: Is presented with flowers from Kuma and SLAP!!! poor Kuma. (Definitely a dream for Panda and Kuma's nightmare.) Bruce: Beats up camera which happens to actually be Jin, Kazuya and Heihachi. (Definitely a dream). Bryan: Is chased into an alley by Lei who shoots him 3 times. Bryan shakes the effects off and then runs toward Lei and begins to give him a good thrashing. (definitely a dream). Lei: After a vigorous battle practices his Kata (Even in his dreams he's practicing). Wang: Is training Xiayou when his back goes out. Xiayou shrugs. (This is Wang's nightmare.) Ganryu: Presents flowers to Michelle he mouths the words no and walks away leaving Ganryu crushed. (This is a nightmare for Ganryu.) Yoshimitsu: Uses the ancient ninja image technique clashes swords with Kunimitsu who is killed. (Flashback to the end of Tekken 3 possibly?). Kunimitsu Dashes at Yoshimitsu their swords clash and Yoshimitsu falls dead. Satisfied Kunimitsu disappears. (This certainly did not happen). Mokujin: Let's all do the Woodman Kata. (a dream). Tetsujin: And now the Tinman Kata. (Still dreaming). King: Shows off wrestling moods with a dummy, a wrestling dummy while Armour king watches. Armor King: Puts the smack down on King. King is utterly whipped. (Possibly a flashback.) Gunjack: Dance's and trains with Jack-2 (this is a dream.) P-Jack: Bows to Gun Jack both Fly away. (A nice dream, P-Jack find peace with GunJack). Jack-2: Sits watching the sunset with P-Jack beside him he looks at P-Jack and quickly looks back P-Jack looks at him then they continue to watch the sunset. (A nice dream) Alex and Roger: Play rock scissors paper with Yoshimitsu and keep losing due to boxing gloves. (A flashback?). Paul: Is ready to face off with Kazuya when Kuma attacks, Paul defeats Kuma and turns to discover Kazuya is gone. (definitely a nightmare). Heihachi: Meditates on his victory over Kazuya and Jin and smiles. (An evil dream of an evil man, Boo Hiss). Ogre: Goes to absorb a defeated Jin's soul and is challenged by Unknown who has just broken free of the Forest Demon. At the end, Jun escapes from Unknown and uses her powers to prevent Devil from possessing Jin fully even though we later find out (Tekken 4) that Jin carries the Devil Gene. Once Jun is free the nightmarish reality of twisted time and space resets itself. Ogre and True Ogre are once again dead, and the souls they consumed pass on to a peaceful death. Jun also finally dies and with her passing any memories of the events of Tekken Tag Tournament are lost forever. ======================================================================= ********************** 6) TEKKEN FOR DUMMIES ************************** ======================================================================= a) THE HISTORY OF TEKKEN THE GAME 1994 Tekken (Arcade) released - Back in 1994 Namco launch a new coin-op fighting game called Tekken. 8 Gourad shaded fighters (Gourad shading means the light and shade is drawn onto the actual character models) were available to take part in the first King of Iron Fist Tournament. The fighters were Paul, King, Nina, Jack, Law, Michelle, Yoshimitsu and Kazuya. 1995 - Tekken is released on the Playstation and astounds everyone by adding ten new fighters and amazing new FMV endings. The full line up now includes These were Paul, Law, Nina, Anna, Kuma, Kazuya, Lee, Ganryu, Michelle, Jack, Yoshimitsu, Kunimitsu, Heihachi, King, Armour King, P-Jack, Wang Jinery and Devil Kazuya. 1995 Tekken 2 (Version A) is released in the Arcades. This time real-time light sourcing is used to create more dynamic effects and the game now runs at a whopping 60fps. A few months later an updated version of Tekken 2 (Version B) comes to the arcades and it is this that Tekken2 for PlayStation 1 is based. 1996 Tekken 2 is released on the PlayStation. All the previous fighters are back for more, with the addition of new characters Lei Wulong, Baek Do San, Bruce Irvin, Jun Kazama, Roger and Alex and Devil and Angel. Once again Tekken upped the ante by wrapping the superb gameplay experience up with high quality FMV end sequences that established the on-going Tekken storyline as something that would play a major part in future sequels. 1997 Tekken 3 Arcade released 1998 - Tekken 3 Playstation released - Astonishes everyone with its sublime graphics and gameplay. Some characters are now gone (No Jun, Baek, Kunimitsu, Ganryu, Lee Chaolan, Armour King, Roger and Alex, Devil and Angel, Kazuya, Michelle and Law). Some older characters return though in the form of children - Marshall Law, Jin Kazama and Julia Chang, or as protégés, Hwoarang. New characters include Eddy Gordo and Ling Xiayou as well as Gon, Dr. Boskonavitch, Ogre and True Ogre. The game is considered to be the best 3D fighter available on the Psx and at the time it came out Virtua Fighter 3tb was also debuting on the Dreamcast and suffered in comparison. 1999 - Tekken Tag Tournament released in the Arcades. This is actually a beefed version of Tekken 3 with an added tag mode. Graphically it is still Psx Tekken rather than what its PS2 release was to look like. 2000 - Tekken Tag Tournament released on PlayStation 2. This is considered by many as Tekken 3.5. Some people were disappointed that it offered little new gameplay features from Tekken 3 besides the Tag mode. This was to ignore the fact Namco had been somewhat pressurised into creating a new Tekken game to help launch the new Sony console. The main selling point of the game was it contained every fighter the series had seen (except Gon and Dr.B). The character models looked superb and fighting was a fluid as ever, but the lack of proper 3D landscapes that other fighting games had introduced was a noticeable fault in some peoples eyes. 2001 Tekken 4 released in the Arcades. Taking onboard criticism of Tekken Tag, Namco introduce 3D arenas with smashable scenery and new tactics and moves to take advantage of the solid walls. 2002 Tekken 4 released on PS2. With Sega's Virtua Fighter series proving a serious challenger Tekken sobers up a bit. The ridiculous storylines are still there but many of the more quirky characters have been dropped. Gun Jack, Anna are the two most noticeable losses. And there is no monstrous end boss this time, just Heihachi. But to compensate, Kazuya returns as does Marshall Law and Lee Chaolan. Eddy is gone but replaced by a protégé Christie Monterio. New fighters Craig Marduk and Steve Fox bring Vale Tudo and Boxing to the huge roster of martial arts styles included in the game. But many mourn the loss of the Tekken minigames, Tekken Force being no match for Tekken Ball or Tekken Bowl. b) TEKKEN TOTE BOARD - WHO'S ALIVE/DEAD/MISSING IN ACTION CHARACTERS WHO HAVE DIED - King the First (appeared in Tekken 1 and 2, killed by Ogre before Tekken 3) - Bruce Irvin (appeared in Tekken 2, killed by Ogre before Tekken 3) - Baek Do San (appeared in Tekken 2, killed by Ogre before Tekken 3) - Jun Kazama (appeared in Tekken 2, killed by Ogre before Tekken 3) - Armour King (appeared in Tekken 1 and 2, killed by Craig Marduk before Tekken 4) - Kazuya Mishima (the original Kazuya from Tekken 1 and 2 is killed at the end of Tekken 2 by Heihachi. Most likely it will finish the way Jins did with Jin killing Kazuya, sparing Heihachi and flying away. As this took place away from the rest of the tournament it would be interesting to see if one of the other participants will end up winning. It seems daft to have one of the Mishimas winning AGAIN! That said, I am assuming some of the plot threads will carry on even without the characters having won. - Nina will discover from the Syndicate that she is Steve's mother, but Steve may not find out without the access to the Mishima database. - Lei will capture Nina and regain his honour. It may come out in the trial that Nina is Steve mother. But then WHO IS STEVE'S FATHER? - I think the question of Steve's paternity will be important in Tekken 5 as will be the origin of his scar. I think it may result in us discovering Steve is one of Dr. Boskonovitches first attempts at creating a human powerful enough to beat a "Devil" gened human created by Dr. Abel - Genocell will not be wiped by Julia, so Dr. Abel carries on trying to create a new Devil/Human hybrid. This may become some kind of Boss character. Heihachi may even allow himself to undergo this change as he is getting to old to fight well. - Jin will learn to use his Devil powers and control them, hopefully allowing us to fight with him fully winged! - Nina gets sent to prison, but gets busted out by Anna hooray! - Dr. Boskonoavitch and Yoshimitsu resurrect Bryan in a new mechanical body. But they discover they need more help against Dr. Abel and Heihachi and so Yoshimitsu tracks down Gun Jack and Jane and persuades them to join them. - Ling Xiayou goes to find Jin - The fifth Tekken Tournament is called when Heihachi decides to test the new Devil/Humans out and the rest of the gang enter for the usual reasons of power, money or stopping Heihachi. OK that's my speculation, given the endings from Tekken 4. I'll add to and update this when more official info is forthcoming, but any of your thoughts are welcome fro inclusion. Lets see how close our guesses are! ======================================================================= ******************** 8) MINI MARTIAL ARTS FAQ ************************* ======================================================================= This section is intended to give some background to the Martial Arts used by various fighters in Tekken. To me what has made Tekken such a brilliant fighting game is the fact the fighters use such instantly recognisable styles and moves. Of course they use moves that you would have hard time pulling off in a real fight - "show moves" they are called, but Tekken in its attention to detail set me off on a course of study in Martial Arts. I am now a devotee of Jeet Kun-Do, Marshall and Forest Laws style. There are some fighters who have more fantastical styles, ie. The Jacks and Panda and Kuma. These are not covered. Also the fighting style of Julia and Michelle Chang is one I have not come across in my studies of Martial Arts (its described rather unhelpfully in the manuals as either "Fist Fighting" or "Various Chinese Martial Arts"). Wang Jinery's Fighting Style was also unclear, but I have dubbed it "Tai Chi" as it involves a lot of open handed shoving. Many of the fighting disciplines have long histories and many stylistic offshoots. This is just a brief guide to each one. Not a definitive look by any means. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** a) KUNG FU ***************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the Martial Art used by Lee Wulong in the Tekken Games (and Jackie Chan!). I have gone into it in more detail as it is considered the parent Martial Art to almost every other East Asian Fighting system in existence today. Kung Fu the word actually means "Hard Work", so anyone who is good at what they do is said to possess good kung fu. However here it is understood to refer to a certain collection of Chinese martial arts styles, developed at the Shaolin Temple. The official origin of Shaolin kung fu relates to the coming of Indian holy man Bodhi Dharma (470-543AD) to China. He established the first school of Zen Buddhism become the first patriarch of Zen and the patriarch of Shaolin Martial Arts. He came to the Shaolin Temple in Wu Tai province some time around 500 AD, (some stories say he was refused at first only to return and demand recognition several years later) he found the monks there to be weak and sickly due to their sedentary, meditating lifestyle. What Bodhi Dharma introduced to the monks there were the concepts of Chi Kung. "Chi" means energy, the spark of life. "Kung" means work. Chi come in many forms, breath chi is the chi trained in Chi Kung. It means that training is very dependent on breathing and movement together and can be done in many styles. Soft for healing and toning, hard for strengthening etc. For example, the Turtle Breathing Chi Kung involves the practitioner attempting to inhale and exhale for the longest periods of time possible. Iron Shirt Chi Kung renders the practitioner (supposedly) impervious to blows. Initially it may not sound like Bodhi Dharma's teachings have much to do with martial arts, however what Chi Kung is about above all else is the cultivation of health and power. Chi Kung provides the power behind the techniques. Once Bodhi Dharma had laid the foundations of Martial Power, then more effective Martial Techniques could be developed. Over the next century the Shaolin Kung Fu style was refined and taught at the temple to anyone who wished to take refuge there. During the Ching Dynasty (1644-1911) the temple opposed the ruling Manchu family. In 1768 the first Shaolin Temple was burned and the martial artists their dispersed all over China to teach their arts. Some fled to Kien province in Southern China, and a second Shaolin temple was built, which was also burned by the Manchus. Northern style Chinese arts are considered more dynamic and flashy, longer stances, bigger punches and high, spectacular kicks. Southern style is more close quarter, focusing on short punches and low kicks. Shaolin Kung Fu Styles The actual scope of Shaolin Kung Fu is enormous and versatile. It incorporates many punching techniques, high to low kicks, sweeps, grappling, flips and trips. Much of it is built around animal styles and techniques. The base 170 animal move system was developed by a monk called Chueh Yuan, 800 years after Bodhi Dharma. The five animals of Shaolin are as follows: The Crane; this strengthens sinews. It also involves using the arms to distract the enemy so the feet can strike with powerful kicks. The same way the bird would use it's wings. The Leopard; this develops speed and power. Typically this is characterised by fast, low punches and recovery. The Tiger; this builds strength. Tiger style, like the tiger itself overwhelms the opponent with ripping, clawing superior strength. The Snake; strikes at vital points. The hands become the head of the snake, lightning speedy strikes at vulnerable points on the enemy's body disabling them as effectively as the serpents venom. The Dragon; emulating this noble, mythical creature builds a strong, confident spirit. All these style have their own stances, footwork and favoured weapons. Although techniques may vary from school to school, they all have their roots in the Northern Shaolin style. This is the parent style of most fighting arts found across asia today, by they Japanese Thai or Filipino. For example the Horse stance (or Ma Stance) is Shaolin, but is found in all forms of Karate. We will discus these countries later. Now we shall see how Shaolin Kung Fu sprouted much subdivision in the 18th and 19th centuries. Wing Chun This is possibly the most well known and popular form of Shaolin. It is very popular in Hong Kong, and is considered a Southern style because of it's emphasis on short power. It originated at the temple in the early 18 century, when five Grand Masters got together to develop a style that could be learned in less than a decade to aid their fight against the Manchu's. However, the temple was burned before the new style could be put into practice. One of the Grand Masters, a nun called Ng Mui escaped and taught the new style to an orphan girl called Wing Chun. She then taught her husband Lenng Bok Cho, creating the patriarchy of Wing Chun Masters that exist today. It is simple and compact and has relatively few techniques. It also provides the base martial art for Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do style, more on that later... Praying Mantis This was created by a Shaolin disciple around 1700. He observed a praying mantis fighting and developed the scissors like motions of the mantis into a hand fighting style. He combined this with monkey stepping techniques to create his own Kung Fu. It combines low kicks with (naturally) a lot of grabbing, gouging and tearing hand techniques. It is also known as Seven Stars Style. Monkey This is one of the more bizarre Kung Fu styles. Kao Tze created it in the 19th century while he was in prison for eight years. He was already trained in traditional Kung Fu, but his observations of monkeys' movements allowed him to add this animal style to the mix. The practitioner not only moves like a monkey, but takes on its characteristics as well, shy and timid, aggressive and fierce depending on the style. Cleverness and deceit are the overriding qualities on monkey style. The five categories are Lost Monkey, Tall Monkey, Stone Monkey, Wood Monkey and most famously the Drunken Monkey. Source of the famous Drunken Boxing style. Eagle Claw Developed in the 12th century, it is similar to Judo, in that is a grappling art. Practitioners learn 108 striking points (the acupuncture points of the body) and can sting, immobilise or permanently cripple depending of how hard those points are struck. Lots of joint locks, rips and gouges are involved and it is a dangerous art, concerned with subduing and controlling the opponent. Hung Gar This is basically the style of the Southern Shaolin temple, it is the Northern Style without the flashy techniques, high kicks and acrobatics. Although this could have been a way of disguising it's true origins from the Manchus. It's true origin is unknown, but it is generally thought that a monk called Chi-Sim developed it down at the Southern Temple after the Northern one was burned. Hung was a student of his. Tibetan White Crane This is similar to T'ai Chi Ch'uan, in that the practitioner uses the opponents force against himself. It originated in western China, but became popular in the South. There is no grappling, and the footwork is evasive and circular with high kicks. The hand is formed in a trademark 'Crane Beak', the fingers straight and the wrist bent. The fingers meeting in a crane-shaped beak. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** b) KARATE ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Heihachi and Kazuya practise karate. They use a variant of the hard and powerful ShotKan Karate. Jun Kazama practiced a softer, earlier form called Bushido. Jin practises a mixture of the Hard and Soft Karate styles. KARATE The birthplace of modern Karate is Okinawa. Originally it was called "Te" which means hand, or Bushido-Te which means Warriors Hands. This was practised before Chinese "Kempo" arrived in the 14th century. A group of Chinese settled in Okinawa for trade purposes and they taught Kempo, or Kung Fu to the locals. The ideogram meaning Chinese is "Kara", from this we get Kara-te, or "Chinese Hands". In 1470, there was a ban on all weapons in Okinawa, so the empty handed fighting arts flourished. Today Karate is generally taken to mean "Empty Hands", a more appropriate name for the art as empty refers to "The void" in Zen philosophy and Zen is a big influence on the Japanese arts. ShotoKan Karate Gichin Funakoshi is considered the father of Japanese karate-do. In 1922 he was invited from Okinawa to Japan to demonstrate the techniques. It was well received and he stayed in Japan to teach at several Tokyo universities. His pen name was Shoto, and from this the term Shoto-Kan (house of Shoto) was used to describe his method of Karate. It is the most popular form of Karate outside of Japan and Okinawa. If you want to learn Karate in the west it will typically be Shotokan Karate that you learn. Karate is a very Hard style of Martial Art, with Shotokan being the hardest. It emphasises hard blocks and teaches a much smaller range of kicks and punches than Kung Fu. It is very linear and generally lacks the softer parries and dodges of the "rounder" Chinese arts. Karate and other Japanese arts also have ranking systems in the form of belts, something which Kung Fu also does not have. You start with a white belt and work though the colours through the accumulation of skill and technique. Typically they will be yellow, green, purple or blue, red or brown then black. Beyond black is Dan, ranked Shodan, Kodan, Sandan, Yodan, Godan, Rodudan, Schichidan, Hachidan, Kudan and Judan. Other forms of Karate Goju Ryu - this is the original Okinawan Karate. Softer than other forms it is the style closest to Chinese Kung Fu Wado Ryu - this was created in 1939 by a student of Funakoshi's. It does not emphasise hard technique, rather it concentrates on building a tranquil mind for reading and blending with your opponent. Kyokushin Kai - created in 1955 by Masutatu Oyama. The most popular variant of Karate inside Japan. It is famous for spectacular breaking techniques and hard contact sparring done with little or no protective gear. The central aim is the overcoming of fear. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** c) TAE KWON-DO ************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Baek Doo-San and Hwoarang both practice this graceful martial art. Hwoarang also takes his name from an off-shoot style of the art. Tae Kwon Do This is a Korean fighting art famous for its incredible flowing sets of high kicks. Tae Kwon Do is actually the collective name for a group of Korean fighting arts, Tae Kwon and Subak. It means "The way of kicking and punching" and was official established in 1955. However the parent arts have a long history in Korea, and although the fighting arts declined in popularity during the 1500s AD the invasion of Korea by Japan in 1909 saw a huge rise in their popularity. This is probably because the Japanese banned them! During this time many Koreans sought refuge in China and later returned with techniques learned over there. Plus 1943 saw the introduction of Karate and Judo, and these also were incorporated into some Korean styles. Hwarang Do is a less well-known Korean art. It means "The way of flowering manhood" and was developed by the Hwa Rang royalty of Korea. It incorporates philosophy, acupuncture, ESP, martial arts...it is very wide in its scope and applications. It develops four major paths of study. Internal power - Nae Gong. External power - Wae Gong. Weapon power - Moo Gi Gong and Mental power - Shin Gong. According to Rob Gallimore a TKD instructor, Baek and Hwoarang perform two different styles of the martial art. "I beleive Baek studied moo duk kwan (moo-do-kwan) tae kwon do, due to his rigid kicks and hand movements which are signatures of moo duk kwan (old school tkd) you see moo duk kwan was really based on karate due to the japanese occupation of korea, yet due to the hwarang-do (even older school tkd, translates as flowering youth way) influence they developed elite kicking. Then comes Olmpic style TKD. If you have ever seen olympic tkd fighting matches, you will immediatly recognize Hwoarangs extreme/flashy fighting style. In the 50's this style grew to become modern olympic tkd. This would explain why Baek has older styles than Hwoarang, yet is still his teacher. Because modern tkd developed from moo duk kwon (and a few less popular others) in the last 40 years, therfore you see the shift from baek's fighting style (more hand strikes) to the modern Hwarang style. " ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ********************************* d) SUMO ***************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ganryu is a Sumo Wrestler. Originally known as "sumai", meaning struggle, sumo began around 20 B.C. as military combat. Sumai used most of the modern sumo techniques, plus a variety of strikes. It resembled other wrestling based arts such as Mongolian wrestling and Indian wrestling. Before the 16th century almost all wrestling was practiced for battle. Evolving after the 16th century, it eventually became known as sumo. Rules, ranks, and a ring now make sumo into a sport of giants. The water ceremony, the bowing, the costumes, and pageantry are all reminders of the ancient military traditions are still recognized today in competition. To follow a competition is quite easy. The winner is the one who forces his opponent out of the ring or forcing his opponent to touch the floor with any body part above the knee, first. The techniques they employ range from slapping (tsuppari), sweeps (ketaguri), and a wide variety of throws (utchari). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** e) WRESTLING *************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- King, Armour King and Roger and Alex all practice Wrestling. Wrestling like Boxing dates back thousands of years to the Ancient Greeks. Then Wrestling and Boxing were part of the same system called 'Pancratium', which were later separated for sporting purposes. Although in it's current form it is questionable as to whether it can be considered a sport anymore. It is more of a spectacle. Nevertheless it has codified rules, most attacks are grapples and throws. Punching and Kicking is allowed although this usually takes the form of flat hand punches, forearm smashes and attacks with the side of the leg rather than the feet. A victory is obtained when one opponent can pin both the others shoulders to the canvas for a count of three. Wrestling is hugely popular in the United States and many wrestlers are as famous as movie stars. There are more violent off-shoots; such as extreme wrestling, which is linked to sports like Vale Tudo (no holds barred). In extreme wrestling fighters often slash themselves with glass and barbed wire for a more violent and bloody battle. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** f) BOXING ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Fox is a boxer. Boxing's origins can be traced all the way back to 688 B.C. in Greece, where it was an event in the Ancient Olympic Games. Then Wrestling and Boxing were part of the same system called 'Pancratium', which were later separated for sporting purposes. However, the sport didn't catch on in the United States until the late 1800s. The sport consists of two men in a ring hitting each other until one is knocked out. There are no foot or leg attacks allowed and nothing below the waist can be targeted. A decade and a half after being recognized in the U.S., boxing first appeared in the Modern Olympics at the 1904 Games in St. Louis, Mo. In recent years, the sport has reached out to females, who now compete in sanctioned amateur competition but do not yet compete in the Olympics. Among the now-famous professional boxers who started their careers in the amateur ranks are American gold-medal winners Muhammad Ali, Oscar De La Hoya, George Foreman, Leon and Michael Spinks, Floyd Patterson and Ray Leonard. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ************************** g) JEET KUNE-DO ***************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Marshall and Forest Law are practitioners of this Art (and so am I). They even do Bruce's famous one-inch punch and Flip Kicks! (I can't though..) JKD is understood to refer to Bruce Lee's system of personal development, the techniques he taught are known as Jun Fan Gung Fu. This incorporates Jun Fan kickboxing and Jun Fan Trapping and Ground Fighting. Jun Fan is actually Bruce Lee's Chinese name, so Jun Fan Gung Fu refers to his style of martial art. Jeet Kune Do or "The Way of the Intercepting Fist" is the most modern style of Chinese Martial Art. It was created in the 1960's by Bruce Lee in an attempt to combine an Internal approach with an External Technique from the outset. The base technique is Wing Chun Kung Fu, but it combines elements of Western Boxing (dodging and swaying), Fencing (footwork, stances, parrying and striking techniques) and is often taught with Indonesian Arts such as Silat and Indonesian ones such as Escrima for grapples, takedowns and very close quarter combat. Bruce felt that martial arts should not be about mimicking the way your teacher does a technique. It should be about finding what is the right way for you. It was not just about teaching move in sets and drills, it is about improving techniques round your opponents. If one technique does not work, you should be comfortable enough with your skill to be able to instantly adapt and flow into another technique. JKD teaches attributes such as timing, distance, flow and natural ability as well as moves. JKD is meant to be spontaneous, a journey in to personal self-expression. Good JKD teachers are hard to find and outside of the US very few people are licensed to teach it. It is a dynamic and exciting art to learn. The full on contact nature means it is satisfying on a purely physical level. The emphasis on listening to your body, reading your opponent (your training partner is your most important tool in JKD) and finding your own way, appeals on a spiritual level. JKD emphasises "inch power" (explosive movements made over very short distances), with all movement flowing from the hips. The varied nature of the general techniques means it is an ideal sport both for the big and powerful and the small and agile. The offensive and defensively minded. Men and women etc. *What is a Do? Do means "the way" or art of doing something. A "Do" refers to spiritual, self-perfection - by perfecting a technique on perfects one's spirit etc. Do creates the environment where martial arts are studied as an extension of oneself, they are a means to aid transcendence into an ideal. Do is about self-discipline above all else. Do can also refer to the way fighting and killing arts are now trained as sport (where killing one's opponent would be undesirable!). For example some Karate-do practitioners say they practice a killing art, but they don't even full contact spar. A system of points is awarded for technique, no knock-outs occur. Often practitioners of sport martial arts having trained many years in the art of not hitting someone, can come a cropper in "real" fights. However, non-traditional, fighting karate (which borrows evasive techniques from western boxing) avoids these problems. As does JKD, which is taught as self-defence rather than sport. It's up to you if you choose to learn the arts, for fighting or sport. Just remember, you are more likely to get hurt when training to fight! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** h) WU SHU ****************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ling Xiayou's martial art of choice is Wu Shu, this balletic and graceful martial art is also practised by Chinese movie star Jet Li. Wu shu is an important component of the cultural heritage of China, with a rich content that has remained untarnished over the centuries. Literally translated, "wu" is military, "shu" is art. Wu shu therefore means the art of fighting, or martial arts. In the same way Kung Fu is actually a catchall term for a group of martial art styles, so is Wu Shu. The name was choosen by the communist leaders of China who considered the name kung fu as "too backward". Wu shu has been organized and systematized into a formal branch of study in the performance arts by the Chinese. It reigns as the most popular national sport in the country of 1.1 billion people, practiced by the young and old alike. It's emphasis has shifted from combat to performance, and it is practiced for its method of achieving heath, self-defence skills, mental discipline, recreational pursuit and competition. To describe Wu shu, it is best to understand the philosophy of its teaching. Every movement must exhibit sensible combat application and aestheticism. The wealth of Wu shu's content, the beauty of Wu shu movements, the difficulty factor, and the scientific training methods are the sum of the elements that set wushu apart from martial arts. Routines are performed solo, paired or in groups, either barehanded or armed with traditional Chinese weaponry. Wu shu in Mainland China was modernized so that there could be a universal standard for training and competing. In essence, much emphasis has been placed on speed, difficulty, and presentation. Consequently, Wu shu has become an athletic and aesthetic performance and competitive sport, while "kung fu" remains the traditional fighting practice. Although still in budding stages in many countries, Wu shu is an established international sport. In 1990, Wushu was inducted as an official medal event in the Asian Games. Since then World Championships have taken place with 56 nations participating. Wu shu is also vying for the Olympic games in the 21st century. The actual fighting systems are Chang Quan (Long Fist) the style practiced by Ling Xiayou. This is the acrobatic and aerial style. There is also Nan Quan which is more forceful and less concerned with acrobatics and Sanshou which is protected, full contact sparring. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- **************************** i) KICK BOXING *************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Both Brian Fury and Bruce Irvin practice Kickboxing. Kickboxing is a straightforward martial art, designed to be effective without being flashy it is a popular martial art learned for self-defence. It also has tremendous popularity amongst women due to it lack of traditions. Its name basically sums it up. It takes the best punches from boxing and the best kicks from Muay Thai boxing or Tae Kwon-do. Kickboxing started in the US during the 1970's when American karate practitioners became frustrated with strict controls on martial arts competitions that didn't allow full contact kicks and punches. Many questions were raised when the sport began about the high risk of injury. As a result, safety rules were improved and protective clothing was added. As this is a relatively new sport there are no long-term traditions. The sport has undergone changes and been refined during the last two decades. Competitors use sparring, kicks, punches, kick blocks, shadow boxing, and wood breaking that is learned and applied under professional instruction. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** j) JUDO/AKIDO ************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul Phoenix uses mainly Judo techniques of close quarter combat, reversals and grapples. Both Nina and Anna also use the Akido techniques of reversals, parries and grapples. Jiu jitsu is a fighting art and a category under which all empty handed fighting arts were grouped during feudal Japan. This is the original martial art of Japan and was used by the Samurai. However it was not formed into a system until the 16th century. It emphasises flowing techniques, grapples and joint locks. Few punches and kicks are learned as they would have had weapons on the battlefield, but they are taught to be used as a when is appropriate. All Jiu jitsu relies on using an opponents strength against himself. "Ju" means gentleness and "Jitsu" means art or practice. Modern Jiu jitsu has many forms. A popular is Hakko-Ryu, created in the 1940's by Rynho Okuyama. It involves studying the acupuncture points of the body and attacking them to create disabling damage. This is achieved through pressure, locks, hold and hitting. Judo is probably the best known offshoot of Jiu jitsu. It was created in 1882 by Jigaro Kano and is basically Jiu jitsu as sport. All the damaging moves are taken out and a greater emphasis placed on throwing, sweeping and unbalancing. Kano developed as a way to "make the most efficient use of physical and mental energy". It turned Jiu jitsu into a sport that could be taught at Japanese schools and colleges. It also has a belt ranking system similar to Karate. Akido is the closest Japanese martial art to the Chinese art of T'ai Chi. It was created by Morihei Ueshiba in the 1920's. He trained in Jui jitsu in 1902 and after that trained with the sword. In 1922, his disenchantment with the way he was approaching martial arts led him to create his own style which he called aiki-bujutsu. In 1925 he was challenged to a sword fight by a master of the Kendo sword. Ueshiba easily defeated him, and shortly after the fight he had a powerful experience of enlightenment. He felt himself bathed in a golden light and was at one with the Universe. After that he changed the name of his style to Aikibudo, meaning a way to harmony with the universe. This later changed to Aikido. Aikido is all about listening and blending, using an attackers force against themselves. Aikido fights are very spectacular to watch as attack, blends into defence and back again with a very circular pattern. Although it is the most non-violent martial art there is, it also has one of the highest injury rates for beginners. This is simply because the emphasis on throws and counters lead to many sprained ankles and dislocated elbows. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** k) NINJITSU **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Believe it or not the arts practiced by Yoshimitsu and Kunimitsu are based in reality. Dating back hundreds of years to the time of the first Yoshimitsu (who appeared in Soul Calibur). However, it has to be pointed out that a lot of Yoshi and Kunimitsu's fighting also owes a great debt to Japanese "Kabuki" theatrics. Ninjutsu began more than 800 years ago among the ninja people living in Japan. The warrior class which ruled Japan at the time were called the Samurai. They controlled the land and it's people. Their lord, the Shogun, was the only person the Samurai was answerable to. The ordinary peasant served the warriors every whim. A peasant could never strike a Samurai. If he did, it would mean his life. The ninja would not serve the Samurai, and fled to the barren, cold, mountainous regions of Iga and Koga. There they trained in the arts of war. It is said that their art is based upon a great Chinese military text written by a general named Sun Tzu, The Art of War. Over the centuries the ninja (word meaning 'stealers-in') trained from the cradle to the grave in every known martial art. Their forte was espionage and assassination, by any means possible. But their training also taught them to reach spiritual heights, by pushing their bodies and minds to limits far beyond that of normal human endurance. Training for a ninja began almost as soon as he could walk. Childhood games were designed to inculcate expertise in unarmed combat, sword work, weaponry, camouflage, escape and evasion. In time, the ninja warriors came to be feared throughout Japan. Even the mighty Samurai looked over his shoulder if a ninja was known to be in the area. Over the centuries, while ninjutsu was being practiced in secrecy, no one knew anything about the art except the ninjas themselves. When Japan emerged into the modern era, and feudalism collapsed, the ninja were absorbed into Japan's secret service and special services groups. Developed as a highly illegal counterculture to the ruling samurai warrior class, Ninpo (ninjitsu) still flourishes today under the direct guidance of Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, 34th grandmaster of the Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu tradition and eight other budo traditions. Dr. Hatsumi is the last variable true Ninja grandmaster having a direct line of decent from feudal Japan ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** l) CAPOEIRA **************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Eddy Gordo and Christie Monteiro both fight in this crazy and amazing style. Capoeira The origins of this art are unclear; it is believed to have been bought to Brazil by the descendents of African slaves. However, they modeled the fighting stylefrom traditional dances from back home, so that nobody (such as their masters) would recognize the fact that they were practicing deadly kicks. Many have surmised that this is because the slaves had their arms shackled and could only fight with their feet. It is a unique fighting art, whose like is seen in no other countries fighting style. Learning Capoeira is as much about taking a journey in the culture of the country as it is about learning technique. Musical instruments are vital to the teaching of the style, which looks as much like dancing as it does fighting. In fact the easiest way to describe to art is to say it looks a lot like "break dancing". It is typified by spectacular cart wheeling kicks, the hands are used to balance and spend most of their time on the floor! In the late 19th century it was a vicious fighting style used by the criminal classes, often a razor was placed between the toes as a favoured weapon. This led to it being outlawed for a time. However in 1930 a revolution put Getulio Vargas in charge and stopped its repression. 1932 saw the opening of the first Capoeira school to the public by Mestre Bimba, who also systemised what had become a rather sloppy art during the repression ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** m) VALE TUDO ************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Craig Marduk is a Vale Tudo Fighter. Vale Tudo is a Martial Art of Brazilian Origin. It basically incorporates any kind of martial art move that can be useful in a 'real' fight situation, but its other name "No Holds Barred" gives you some idea of how intense it can be. It is a very extreme form of fighting that grew in popularity during the 1990's with events like the Ultimate Fighting Championship allowing more brutal and bloody forms of ring combat that had previously been seen before. However in recent years the sport has become more professional and martial arts skill and athleticism is more important than brute fighting. It's not entirely without rules; head butts, elbowing, gouging, hair pulling and strikes to sensitive areas such as the lower spine, groin and throat are not allowed. Gloves and Foot protection can also be worn. Vale Tudo is the term used to describe this fighting system in Japan, in the west it is more common for practitioners to refer to it as MMA or Mixed Martial Arts. In its current form it uses mainly Boxing, Wrestling, Muay-Thai and Jiu Jitsu moves. Although good moves from other systems are also incorporated. Although the sport has been around for a decade now, it has only recently been officially sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and the rest of the US is soon to follow. The ban on the sport has also been lifted in Canada and it is very popular in Brazil and Japan. Although not much of the sport is seen in the UK and Europe, some Martial Arts schools have recently started offering Vale Tudo as part of their mixed martial arts courses. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ****************************** n) TAI CHI ************************* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tai Chi is the Martial Art most probably practised by Wang Jinery. It is worth explaining here the difference between the Internal and External methods of Martial Arts. Wang would have been a true Master of an Internal Art, as he was seeking to help the aggressive and "External" Mishima's tame and channel their aggressive nature this should help explain what motivated him. T'ai Chi Ch'uan means Supreme Ultimate Absolute Boxing. A monk called Chang Sang Feng created it in the 14th century. He was already a skilled Shaolin and Taoist practitioner, but on a retreat to the mountains he saw a crane fight a snake. The snake did not fight the strength of the cranes blows, rather it avoided them. He realised the advantages of dodging and yielding rather than brute force and resistance. There are several styles, but all share the same basic techniques. They are all practised in slow motion and attention is paid to correct breathing during the execution of a move. T'ai Chi is done both for health and relaxation, as well as more martial fighting styles. Soft, yielding techniques and Hard push-hands offensive moves. It is the most famous of the Internal styles of Martial Arts. Internal and External are quite important terms to understand. Basically Hard styles of fighting like Karate and Shaolin Kung Fu are External martial arts. Soft styles like Akido and T'ai Chi are considered Internal. Internal Chinese martial arts draw a lot of inspiration from Taoism. Lao Tzu is credited with writing the Tao Te Ching (The Way and the Power) around 500 BC and it is from this work that the martial arts devoted to cultivating the intrinsic power of Chin and the art of listening and reading the opponents moves and presence. Dodging is more important the interfering with an opponents offensive move. The development of the internal arts is extremely interesting, but it is very dependent on an understanding of Taoist philosophy and history, as well as concepts of Ying and Yang and the elemental powers of nature. It is extremely complex, even more so than the development of Shaolin Kung Fu. It is impossible to do it justice here so I recommend that you seek out more specialist books or web sites if you are interested in a more spiritual approach. To confuse matters further, many so-called Hard styles can be practised in an Internal manner. Top Karate experts can have a delicacy of touch and instinct completely missing in a lesser skilled T'ai Chi practitioner. In general all martial arts can be practised internally, it is seen as a desired progression in most styles ----------------------------------------------------------------------- *********************************************************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Feel fee to email me about any aspect of this guide, any contributions you would like to make will be fully credited if used and are more than welcome.
