Featuring 4 vehicles, over 20 maps, tons of weapons, and more fun than a barrel of BioDerms, this game belongs in your PS2 library. Tribes. Reach out and frag someone. ####################################### +++++ONLINE+++++ _Getting Started_ Online has the same features as the offline botmatch, so if you need help concerning the botmatch, scroll down to there. When you start up Tribes, you'll notice that the main screen is cleary split up between "online" and "offline". Select "online" one or two player (Multiplayer fans..REJOICE!), and setup your internet connection. Either select the default one (The one you saved from your startup disc), or go to manual settings. If you select manual, it'll restart the system and bring up the manual setup for your Network Adaptor. Set up the IP address and all that other fancy-smancy high-tech stuff. Easy as pie, right? Once you all snazzly dazzly, I recommend selecting "Auto Connect" so Tribes will automatically connect you when you start up the game. This way you don't have to waste time trying to connect. After connecting, you'll enter the lobby. A list of all the servers available will appear, and below those you have some options. Select the "No Sorting" button to scroll through all the various sortments, from Player # to Map Name to Targeting Enabled. Select a server, and join in the fun! If you want, you can host a game. You have plenty of options: Game Mode, Map, Vote Pass (How many positive votes it takes to pass the vote), Maximum Player #, AI Bots, and tons more. _Tips_ *When choosing a server, keep some things in mind. Try and get a server with few people in it already, and with a very good quality. It sucks when you've got a great game going, then more people come in, and it screws up the server because it overloads. So if you wanna play a game with tons of people, get a good quality server. Or host your own, if you have a decent connection. *Remember, if you don't like a player, or if you don't like a map, you can vote. Voting greatly helps in swaying things your way, and often you'll find many people will vote on your side. To vote, go to the IN-GAME OPTIONS, select PLAYER, then select "Vote Map" or "Vote Player". If a vote has already been proposed, select "Vote Yes" or "Vote No". You can only vote once. *As host, you have many choices. You can boot players, change the map, or move a player to the other team, without having to have people vote. With great power comes great responsibility, though. Don't piss everyone off, because no one will want to play in your servers anymore. *Most importantly: MAKE FRIENDS! Make buddies and allies to help you in those big wars (32-player servers! Woo!). Add them to your buddy list at the WARRIOR SETUP screen. You can then see if your buddies are in any of the servers, then join in with your friend. ####################################### +++++OFFLINE+++++ ...Offline. Bleh. Well, Mr. "I'm-too-cheap-to-buy-a-Network-Adaptor", if you're stuck with offline play (Or if you need to practice before playing online), then use these tips and strategies. _Campaign_ Call it a story mode, call it a mission, well, it's NOT. The only thing here worth playing are the Training Levels. Sure, the first ones are horrible ("Press the left analog stick UP to move"...Dear God, someone shoot me), but the later ones are invaluable, teaching you of the Vehicles and deep Inventory system. Newbies should spend time here. _Botmatch_ Botmatch lets you fight alongside bots or a human friend, or just go completely bezerk in a deathmatch. Whatever the case, it's still kinda fun if you need to take a break from the online world. There are 5 Game Modes: DEATHMATCH - The most well known, it's either frag or be fragged here (That's "kill", for all you non-PC young'uns). TEAM DEATHMATCH - Frag or be fragged or frag alongside someone else. Yeah. CAPTURE THE FLAG - The best mode of Tribes, fight alongside your teammates to steal the flag from the enemy's base and take it back to your own. CAPTURE AND HOLD - ...I still don't totally get this one. You have to capture as many bunkers as you can, and then protect them. O.o Stick with Capture the Flag, folks. HUNTERS - Like deathmatch, but with a CTF twist. Killing people will make them drop a flag. Grab the flag, head to the Nexus (That's the floatin' thing in the middle of the map), and get some points. You can have up to 16 people playing--1 or 2 human players, and 14 bots. The bots will be evenly split between teams, so don't worry about that. Also, if you want your friend to be on your team, go to the IN-GAME OPTIONS, then HOST, then select "TEAMCHANGE PAYER". Select your friend's name and he'll die and respawn at your base. Use Offline mostly to train before the big Online matches. Good luck, Newblood. ####################################### +++++WEAPONS GUIDE+++++ 1 = Can equip with light armor 2 = Can equip with medium armor 3 = Can equip with heavy armor * = Poor ** = Okay *** = Good **** = Excellent _Primary_ Blaster (1 2 3) - A very weak laser rifle that ricochets off walls. Rating = *** ####################################### +++++HINTS AND TIPS+++++ *One of the most important tips...When flying an aircraft into an enemy base, if they have missile turrets (with lock-on! AAAAH!), simply SHUT OFF YOUR JETS. The missile turrets are apparently heat-seeking, and they can't lock-on if you're afterburners or jets aren't on. *When playing team based games like CTF online, make sure you have a team. A team is not a bunch of guys in Fighters splitting up trying to get the flag to score the most points. And while you're doing that, the other team (who's actually working like one) will come over, destroy your base, and take your flag. Make sure you're a team player. *If you have a good team, hopefully you'll have someone who drives the vehicles. I can't count the number of times my friend DeathWarrior would carry me and someone else into the enemy's base, then wait outside as we ran back to the transporter, and would carry us off. Also, if someone else has the flag, most of the time their vehicle will be destroyed. Bring a transport to your guy (He's the one with the red flag with the green around it), and carry him off. You'll save time, and you won't risk losing him--and the flag--to the bad guys. ####################################### +++++CONTACT ME+++++ I reside on the Final Fantasy IX Social Board.
