Special Thanks ******************************************************************************** I. Introduction Hello and welcome to my Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Walkthrough and FAQ. GTA: VC, as it will be referred to as of now, is the next installment of Rockstar's ground-breaking series. Grand Theft Auto 3 has won world-wide prestige for the amount of freedom and advanced gameplay that gamers had yet to see. Vice City blows it away. The amount of freedom you will find in Vice City will blow your mind. From the many weapons to the hundreds of cars, to the new side missions and mini-games, you will never put your controller down. I am writing this FAQ as I play the game, so it will be completed the more I play. This is the first full FAQ I have ever written, so bear with me here. A. Personal Rant Since the first day the FAQ has been posted, I have received over 80 e-mails, and 40 IM's. Some info will not be posted, many things will not be responded to. Some info I won't post until I find it, others I won't even notice. Please don't send e-mail saying, "HEY I GAVE YOU INFO AND IT WASN'T POSTED." It annoys me. Thanks to the many people who told me about crouching and the HONDA CRX. Also, may of you are sending in crap codes like "Swim", "Get an F22", "Get a Mustang", "Unlock all islands", etc. They are bull. B. About This Guide First, I know that there are missing things! I have missing rampages, missions, jumps, and of course, I KNOW I AM MISSING CODES. I will get to them as soon as I can confirm all of them, so stop sending me them! Anyway, I'm playing the game once through trying to find about ten rampages and jumps, about 30-40 packages, and just finish all the missions. I will then go back and get new ideas, and finish all the stuff I missed. ******************************************************************************** II. General Game Strategies i. **** the Police! This section will contain strategies about the police, stars, and how to avoid getting busted. 1. If you have one star, just drive around. Police will come on foot and beat you with a night stick, but just driving will drop your wanted level. 2. At two stars, you should drive to your hideout and change clothes. That will get rid of the level. Police will now be shooting at you, so you're not that safe. 3. At three stars, police get vicious. They spawn everywhere, so find a Pay-and-Spray and lose that level. Also, undercover cops in Banshees and Cheetah start showing up, and they're a bit faster than normal ones and great for Vigilante Missions. 4. At four stars, the SWAT comes in, and they have rifles. You can be plunked down in no time. GET TO A PAY-AND-SPRAY. 5. At five stars, the FBI is coming, and hell is breaking loose. Their Ruger's will eat you alive, and their cars are very fast. Find a frickin' Pay-and-Spray! 6. At six stars, the army is here. M60's, tanks, Barracks OL's... Run, just run for your life...towards a Pay-and-Spray... 7. Memorize Police Bribe locations, when in need, drive to them. This can ease missions up a ton. 8. Never run over a cop. That's two stars right there and that will lead to more very fast... ii. How Not to Die... This section will, of course, tell you ways to save yourself before death. 1. Car on fire? BAIL! You can get out of a moving car and take minimal damage. Don't explode. 2. Motorcycles are dangerous. Too many falls and you'll get wasted. 3. Long jumps are bad. Falling can take some massive health away. 4. Try to always keep full health and armor. Learn locations of the pick ups and grab them before missions. 5. Don't piss off a gang without protection. Gangs hang in packs, and pistols will own melee weapons anyday. iii. General Mission Strategies Most missions have a common point to them, and a general strategy can give you a basis on how to go about them. 1. Fast cars are good for timed missions, but for those that aren't, safety is first. Don't get blown up, busted, or killed stupidly. 2. Motorcycles are fun to ride but handle not so good...it's very easy to take a lot of damage if you hit something. 3. Some missions will piss off gangs, make a copy of the game before this mission so you can make sure you haven't lost something valuable. 4. Can't pass a mission? Go do something else. Kill some people, go package hunting, do someone else's missions, or turn the game off and read a book. Take some time to ease up, and then focus on the task at hand. It makes life much easier. iv. Making the $$$Blingy Blingy$$$ Money actually serves a purpose in this game, unlike GTA3 where it was a joke almost. You receive less money for many things, and have to buy your weapons and hideouts for good money. First of course, is doing missions. Missions will earn you good money, but advance the game, which may do bad things (like angering gangs). Phone missions are notorious for this. Taxi missions are very easy, and can land you some good profit over time. Vigilante missions are pretty challenging, but give good rewards as well. All of the R3 missions are profitable. The newest feature to GTA is to rob stores. This earns at least $1000 every time, and you can rob the same store many times. My favorite is the Corner Store, head over to that section for details. v. More Stuff If I have a tip I feel like adding, it will go here. ******************************************************************************* IV. They are unlocked after certain missions and then stored in your hideout's locker. ******************************************************************************* VI. Walkthrough ...Since I have just started the game, I can't really post a full walk- through. However, as soon as I pass a mission, I will write how I did it and submit it to this FAQ. A. KEN ROSENBURG, THE LAWYER This is your first boss of the game, and his missions are pretty easy and self explanitory, but I must include them for the sake of the guide. He can be found by going to the "L" on the mini-map. 1. *The Party* Head to the clothes shop showed on your mini-map and grab some threads. Feel free to take that Freeway showed in the cinematic. Now follow the next blip to Cortez's yacht, and watch the cinematic. You can now take his daughter with you in your car (or bike). Take her to the club. Reward: $100 -- Street Clothes delivered to save point. 2. *Back Alley Brawl* Follow the blip to the club and meet Kent Paul. He will tell you to meet a chef in an alley. Go the blip shown on the mini-map. Use your fists to punch is lights out and take his cell phone. Three more chefs will appear after the cinematic with Lance. Feel free to kill them and take their Meat Cleavers, or just follow Lance. If you do kill them, make sure to grab the nearby Police Bribe. Take Lance and his Infernus to Ammunation where you can grab some nice artillery. Now drive back to your hotel. Reward $200 -- Cellphone 3. *Jury Fury* *Note: Just before this mission, you should get a meaningless phone call. I mention this so you can keep count of phone calls.* Two juries are about to sentence a very important man, convince them that he is innocent by scaring the bageezes out of them. Grab the hammer in front of you and head south. Go up to the jury's car and beat it to a pulp with it. The jury will come out of the building and Tommy will say something (the phrase is random, I've done it 3 times). Now head back North and find the other jury. Hit him with the hammer and watch as he gets in his car. Wait a second, as a van is about to box him in. Hit his car with the hammer until he gets out. Ignore the police if they come, as the wanted level will go away after the mission. Reward: $400 4. *Riot* *Note: Before this mission, you should receive a call asking where the money is. This is meaningless except to add story. However, a few minutes later, you get another anonymous call. You can now receive missions from a phone near your save point.* Some workers are protesting, but you have to make it a full-blown riot. First, head to the clothes store and grab your Coveralls, then drive over to the point of riot. Attack four workers then run out of the area for a bit. The four workers you attacked will follow you, so beat them down one by one. Next, grab a weapon (you should have a pistol at least), and run back in. Shoot the explosive barrels near the van and watch as they explode. Do this for all three and claim your reward. Reward: $1000 -- Coveralls at Tool It Up *Note: Just after this mission, you get a fourth phone call. This is from Cortez saying that you can come work for him. Avery Carrington is already on the map, so we'll go see him next, as Ken is done with you. B. AVERY CARRINGTON, THE TEXAN BUSINESS MAN After you finish Riot, Avery opens for business. His missions are a bit harder. He's at the construction site located with an 'A'. 1. *Four Iron* A big man in town is teeing off at the local golf club. Avery gives you a membership card so you can now get in. Drive in and let your weapons be discarded (no guns in the golf course, state law). First, head over to the sports clothes shop and grab some dorky golf clothes. Now head to the golf course down the road. You should have a bat, knife, machete, meat cleaver, or some melee weapon, and those are acceptable. If you don't, you'll get one from the Caddie sitting out at the beginning of the course. Drive that over to the blip and get out of your car. He will tell his guards to get you, so get in your Caddie and drive away for a bit. Now turn around and mow down all five of his bodyguards. This makes the mission _THAT_ much easier. Now just follow the guy in his Caddie until you can push him in the lake. Mission accomplished. Reward: $500 -- Golf clothes at the clothes store in the mall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sasha Gajic has another method: I was having no luck running his cart into the lake, and before I knew it, he made it to the parking lot and escaped. My method was a cheap as hell one, but it worked really well. Go up the stairs of the driving range, just enough to hear him tell his guards to get you. Immediately run back down, get in a golf cart, and drive back to the country club entrance. Go through the metal detector, grab the Uzi gun sitting there, place yourself a little ways away from the metal detector on the outside, crouch, and wait for the yellow blip to reach you. As soon as the target runs through the metal detector, gun him down. Simple, and it worked great. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. *Demolition Man* This is a pretty challenging mission, because the helicopter controls are wacky. You may want to do a test mission just to learn how to fly it. Head up the street to the Top Fun van, and grab a bomb. Fly to the construction site and drop it in the pink area. Try not to get hit by the workers' hammers, as they will eventually destroy you. You have to go up the stairs for the next ones, you cannot fly around through windows. Repeat the process for the first one trying not to get shot down or hammered. The time limit is very gracious, so ignore it. It just tries to scare you. After you've done this, enjoy the fireworks. Reward: $1000 C. COLONEL CORTEZ, THE BIG MEXICAN MAN After finishing Riot, you'll get a call from Cortez. Find him on his yacht, located by the 'C'. 1. *Treacherous Swine* Easy easy mission. Take the chainsaw and hop into Cortez's Cheetah. Go to the blip to find the "swine". Try to kill him in his house to make it easy, but if not, unequip the saw and run in front of him, grab the chainsaw, turn around, and kill him. You now have two measly stars, so head to the Pay-and-Spray to finish the mission. Reward: $750 2. *Mall Shootout* A bit harder than the previous, but easy nonetheless. Take the Cheetah again and head to the mall. Watch the cinematic and try to cap the French man in the mall. Otherwise, run after him, grab a bike, and get ready for a chase. Either drive-by him or force him to fall and run him over. Now depending on your location, go to a Pay-and-Spray, or directly to Cortez. Two stars is nothing. Reward: $500 3. *Guardian Angels* The hardest mission just far, and it reminds you of Bomb Da' Base from GTA3. Go the car park near your hotel and grab the Ruger. Now go with Lance to see Diaz. Get to your vantage point and crouch if you'd like to. Watch as the waves of Cubans come out to attack, and pop them. The Ruger is a one hit kill, so aim once and move on. After a while, two dirt bikes will come buy and take the money. Grab the bike that gets left behind and follow the other one. His path is winding, so try to keep up. Again, either push him off his bike or drive by. Take the money back to Diaz. Reward: $1000 After the mission Diaz calls and tells you to come see him for work. D. RICARDO DIAZ, THE GUY THAT SAYS 'DICKHEAD' TOO MUCH Diaz is located by the large 'D' on your minimap, on Starfish Island. 1. *The Chase* This mission is very easy as long as you can run long enough. The more you sprint, the longer you become able to sprint. First, drive to the blip on your minimap, which is located northeast of your locating, at a hotel. Do as the game says and peer through his window, when the short cinematic shows your man, RUN. Follow him on his butt, ignoring all gun- fire and random cinematics; they can't hurt you. Now when he gets in his BF Injection, and his friend gets on top to play turret, take your super fantastic vehicle--the Faggio. He drives slow, but erratic, and the gun- fire is annoying, as it can do damage to you, but inevitably, it blasts your tires out. Stay on the tail of him until you end up at Prawn Island, and the location where Diaz's associate was stashing the money. Mission passed. What? You don't kill him?! Not yet at least. Reward: $1000, and the opening of Starfish and Prawn Islands, but no access to the second huge island yet. Keep waiting. I have yet to do more than one mission for Diaz, check back tomorrow. E. PHONE MISSION 1, THE ANONYMOUS CALLER Well, so far he is anonymous, I've only done two missions, and they are: 1. *Road Kill* Very easy mission, just grab a fast car and keep looking at the yellow blip on the mini map. When you see a place you can cut him off, ram the pizza delivery man's pathetic little scooter. He'll fly off, and you can just run him over. Reward: $500 2. *Waste the Wife* I loved this mission. Head to the new phone in Vice Point, and grab a car. A police car is very good for this as it's both fast and durable. Stop in the pink marker as our caller's wife gets in her Comet. She drives damn slow for the car she's in, so ram her until she catches fire, then get the heck out of there. Easiness, but worth it... Reward: $2000! *BLING BLING* That's all I've done so far, check back soon. ******************************************************************************* VII. Side Missions A. 'R3' Missions In certain cars, pressing R3 will begin a special mission. After completing a certain amount of them, you get something. That's a good thing. Vice City has many of these missions to offer. 1. Firefighter Available Vehicles: Firetruck Description--There is a burning vehicle somewhere, press CIRCLE to use the hose, now put out the fire. Reward for completing: Level 12 = Always Fireproof on foot 2. Ice Cream Driver Available Vehicles: Mr. Whoopee Description--People around the town need their ice cream! Drive to them and deliver. Easiness... Reward for completing: Unknown. 3. Pizza Delivery Available Vehilces: Pizza Boy Description--Someone needs his pizza! Pick it up from the pizza place and deliver it to him. For every level, you must deliver one more pizza. You get extra time for picking the pizza up and dropping it off. Reward for completing: Level 10 = 150 Max Health 4. Paramedic Available Vehicles: Ambulance Description--You have a set time limit to drive to a patient on the street, and get him back to the hospital. For every level you go up, you have to pick up another patient. You gain time by picking a patient up, and for dropping 3 off. For every bump you make (hitting something), their life ticks by faster. Drive safely. Reward for completing: Level 12 = Infinite Sprint 5. Taxi Driver Available Vehicles: Cabbie, Kaufman Cab, Taxi, Zebra Cab Description--Find a person who needs to be taxied, then take him to his location in a certain amount of time. You get money for delivering people faster, and the money goes up incrimentally. Reward for completing: 100 Taxi Passengers = Hyrdraulics on all taxi vehicles. 6. Vigilante Available Vehicles: Barracks OL, Enforcer, FBI Rancher, FBI Washington, Police, Rhino, Ultimate Vehicle, and perhaps the Police Maverick or Predator. Description--You have a set time to find a criminal driving around the city, force his car to stop by ramming it, flipping it, forcing it to a corner, anything, and then kill the driver. Reward for completing: Level 12 = 150 Max Armor ---------------------------- B. Arena At 20:00, the downtown arena holds challenges. Bloodring--A demolition-derby style race for checkpoints. Dirt Ring--32 Checkpoints, 1 Sanchez, No Time Hotring--A 12 lap race ---------------------------- C. Rampages There are 35 Rampages hidden throughout Vice City. In these, you have a certain amount of time to kill a certain amount of a certain type of people, or destroy a certain amount of cars. These can be very challenging. As I find these, I will post the location and how to pass them. You get incriments of $50 for every completion. I've only found one so far... 1. Find the hospital and head around the back, and down an alley. At the end of the alley, the rampage is here. Weapon: Katana Time: 120 Seconds Mission: Kill 10 Gang Members. How to do: This is a lot harder than it sounds, head into a pack of them and hope you hit heads, you can kill about 5 at once if you're good. If there are no cops around, they'll shoot you, so try for one star, and they'll run like panzies. The little cop will follow you as you get your last kills. 2. This is on the beach south of your hideout, near a bush. Weapon: Molotov Cocktails Time: 120 Seconds Mission: Kill 30 Gang Members How to do: Keep the Cocktails as far away from you as possible, as they drain 69 health everytime one hits you. Keep chucking them, and ignore the police. Not too hard, just throw them far. 3. Just north of the second rampage, along the beach again, and near a BF Injection (dune buggy) Weapon: Spas-12 Automatic Shotgun Time: 120 Seconds Mission: Kill 25 Gang Members How to do: Lock and load! Just fire, re-target, fire. Repeat on every gangster you see, and ignore the police; they don't do much. 4. North Point Mall, second level, near the escalator. Weapon: RPG (Rocket Launcher) Time: 120 Seconds Mission: Kill 30 Gang Members How to do: You are your own worst enemy, one wrong shot and you're in more pieces than you'll ever find. Just keep firing near the packs of gangs, and try not to hit police, as it racks up wanted levels. To all who have submitted locations, sorry if I don't post them, I like to find things and get seconds before adding things. Sorry again. ---------------------------- D. Unique Jumps There are 36 Unique Jumps in Vice City. These are sometimes hidden, and sometimes blatant. By hitting a certain jump and landing in the correct spot (sometimes), you complete the jump. These are shown in cinematic view and are very cool. I will post locations of these as I find them. You get incriments of $100 for every jump. 1. From your hideout, go south, at the third exit, turn left, there should be a ramp set up against a wall, rev up from the palm trees and hit it. 2. Same spot, except ride up the ramp, up the next, and the next. Hit the next ramp you see and hold the car straight, now hit the last ramp. 3. Just to the right of the first jump is a concrete ramp. Hit it and clear the river to complete the jump. 4. Near your hideout, there is a long alley that leads into an underground car park. Go up all of the ramps until you reach the top and see a block of two ramps. One is heading north with a long straightaway in front of it, the other has a short run and leads east. Hit the north ramp first, and claim your $400. 5. Same spot as the last one, but hit the east and land on the building on the right. This could take a few tries, but it is possible. ---------------------------- E. Hidden Packages Again, there are 100 packages in Vice City. These are absolute HELL to find, however, the rewards are very good. For every 10 packages you find, something is delivered to your hideout. It can be armor, a weapon, a car, it just depends. However, I am much too lazy to post the locations of all of these, and I couldn't tell you how to get to them if I had to...someone will make a Hidden Packages FAQ later and do just that. ---------------------------- F. RC Races These are spawned from Top Fun vans. Each one you complete is worth incriments of $100. 1. RC Bandit Plane Race--Located at the top of the multi-story car park near your hotel. This is very hard, as the plane likes the mishandle up and down, and the checkpoints always seem lower than they are. As long as you don't miss a checkpoint, you have a smooth victory. The other planes are very slow. ---------------------------- G. Other For all I know, there could be entirely new stuff. If I find or hear about such a thing, I will add a section. ******************************************************************************* IX. Cheats and Codes There are no codes for this game as of yet. If you find one, submit it to me at cowoflight@sbcglobal.net Remember, cheating for fun is good; cheating to beat a mission is bad. Create a file just for cheating, and feel free to mess with it, it's safer. Rockstar has a knack for making you unable to get 100% if you cheat. FAQ Q: When was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City released? A: Some stores put them on shelves the day they were received, October 28th. However, the set date was the 29th. Q: What is GTA: VC's ESRB rating? A: M (17+), get a parent/college student to buy it for you. Q: Why can I only hold 8 weapons?!? A: Because, if you had all 35 some-odd weapons to scroll through, it would become very annoying. Plus, most of the weapons are very similar, and the rest are put in a locker anyway. Q: Where can I get a helicopter?! A: The first place to get one is at the Hyman Condo, purchased for $14,000. It has a helipad and a free Maverick. You can get them later at the airport. Q: Why don't I have a garage? A: You have to buy a new house, and it will come with one. Leaf Links Apartments is $6000 and has one garage, some more expensive ones have three. Q: Why didn't you post my submission/reply to my e-mail/read my IM? A: I received 80 e-mails in one day, and over 40 IM's. I am very busy, so some stuff never gets read. Odds are, if it says "I have codes", I don't care. Most of the codes are already posted here, and the rest are probably crap. Q: I can't beat this mission, and you don't have it up yet! Why won't you help? A: I'm writing this FAQ, playing GTA: VC, and going to a very strict school. I have lots of stuff to do... Q: I found this and it's not in your guide, how do I send it in? A: Awesome! My e-mail is cowoflight@sbcglobal.net! Remember, you get full credit for finds. Q: I have a question that should be in this FAQ, can I send it in? A: Sure...it may not be posted, but it's worth a try. ******************************************************************************* XI. Special Thanks I would like to thank Rockstar, Rockstar North, and all related companies for making this game! I would also like to thank GameFAQs for providing me with some good FREE info. It's too hard to name names...I'd like to thank Jeff "CJayC" Veasey for posting this guide (albeit after many submissions). I would also like kick all the gaming pay sites who force you to click past the links to "GTA: VC info here!" only to find a question asking for how you'd like to pay. Lastly, I'd like to thank everyone who has IM'ed me or e-mailed me. "I feel blessed."--Fernando Martinez ******************************************************************************* Das End.
