Version 0.7 Never posted This version contains the following: -Descriptions of every multiplayer character; -Descriptions of every multiplayer mode; -General multiplayer hints and tips. ===================== )))2. Introduction((( ===================== Operation Winback has a wide range of features which make it ideal for multiplayer as well as single player. Fortunately, the developers (Koei) exploited this and made a four-player multiplayer game. While the multiplayer isn't a patch on some other N64 shooters (*cough* Goldeneye, Perfect Dark *cough*) it is decent fun with some innovative ideas (such as certain characters having only one weapon whilst others can pick them up). This FAQ is intended to give you a general guide of how to get the most from your multiplayer games. =================== )))3. Characters((( =================== NOTE: Where I write "normal abilities" I mean that the character can sidle, starts off with a normal pistol and is able to collect any other weapon. ALSO NOTE: You could unlock all of these by typing the following code on the start menu (u=up on d-pad, d=down, r=right and l=left) u, d, d, r, r, r, l, l, l, l, C-up (hold) + START If you wish to unlock them the proper way, get a certain number of points through the game. 13,000 are required to unlock Lila, 15,000 for Leon and so on in one single game. The points required to unlock each special character increases in intervals of 2,000. Cecile requires 23,000 points. Get extra points by not taking any damage, not collecting medkits and using only your pistol. The bottom row characters can be unlocked by finishing the whole game on Normal mode. The terrorists become available after doing it in Easy. FINALLY: Each character is given a rating out of 5 (* to *****). Name: Jean-Luc Affiliation: S.C.A.T. Stages((( =============== Ground - 1 ---------- Map: ____________________ | ______ |_ | | | ____| |_ | | | | ___ |_| | |C| | | _ | | |_| | P | | | | | |___| | | | |Ż|_ ____|C| | | |_ |______| | | | | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ P=Platform C=Crates This is a decent outdoor stage, with no outstanding features. Try standing in the middle platform, crouching low to dodge bullets, and sniping people as they move around the map. Ground - 2 ---------- Map: ____________________ | ________________ | | / C \ | |/ ________ \| | / \ | | C | B | C | | \________/ | |\ /| | \ C / | | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ B=Building C=Crates This is one of the most boring levels. You are stuck in a circular "doughnut" shaped arena with nothing but crates. The best strategy to use here is to crouch and move from crate to crate, sneaking up on your enemies. You cannot enter the building in the middle. Office - 1 ---------- Map: ____________________ | / \ | | R / __ \ R | |_ __/ | | \__ _| | __/ \__ | | |__ P __| | |_ __ \ / __ _| | \ |__| / | | R \ / R | | \ / | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ R=Room P=Platform One of the better stages. There are four rooms, which you can enter easily by jumping over the windowsills (press A). As with Ground - 1 you can use the platform as a sniper's post, as there is always a SMG spawn there. Office - 2 ---------- Map: ____________________ | | | | P _____ | | | | R | | | \ | | | C \_____ | |ŻŻ ŻŻŻ\ | | \ _ | | R | | | | | Ż | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ R=Room C=Crates P=Platform This is one of the more complex stages. You have two rooms on the left and right, and a platform in the middle from which you can jump down to the lower chamber. This is where all the action will take place, with crates and a pillar to sidle behind. There are weapons in the other rooms if you need them. Factory - 1 ----------- Map: ____________________ |++++++++ | |+ + | |+ ++++++ C | | + + B | | + R + | | + + | | C ++++++ +| | B + +| | ++++++++| ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ R=Room C=Crates B=Conveyor Belt +=Raised Path This is the best stage for sniping. You can climb the stairs to the raised path and snipe people below you. The conveyor belts do nothing, sadly. If you want to, you can have a battle in the little room in the middle since that is where you start off. NOTE: Thanks to Nick Ravage, who tells me that you can use C4 in this level (I assume you start off with it) and that a useful strategy is to place it, hide round a corner and detonate when your opponent is in the vicinity. Factory - 2 ----------- Map: ____________________ | | | * * * * * | | * C * | | * + ++++ * | | B + + + B | | * ++++ + * | | * C * | | * * * * * | | | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ B=Conveyor Belt C=Crates *=Pillar +=Raised Path Another factory level, another raised path. This time there are many shotguns lying about, so you can climb up and create a rain of bullets upon your opponents. There are plenty of explosive crates about, and I recommend shooting these when your enemies are standing nearby. This takes off about 50% of their health. Factory - 3 ----------- Map: ____________________ | | S | | |__/ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ \__| | | * _ * | | | | |_| | | | S| |P| |S | | | |Ż| | | |__| * Ż * |__| | \ ____________ / | | | S | | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ P=Platform S=Slope The best strategy to use here it to climb up one of the slopes and hide behind one of the long screens. Only your head will be showing if you crouch, and you can reach everywhere but below you with your fire, while you will be hard to hit. And if the opponent(s) are coming towards you and are out of range charge down the slope and shoot them. The alternative would be to stay near the weapon respawn site in the central platform and shoot all those around you. All in all a good level. Center ------ Map: ____________________ | ___ ________ ___ | | | | | | | C | | |+| ++++ | | |++++++++++++++++++++| |+| ++++ | | | | C | | | | | | | ŻŻŻ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ŻŻŻ | ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ C=Crates +=Raised Path The most complex stage of all is the last one, Center. You can go in the outer rim of the map, which leads to the path on the upper level. You can go all out on the ground floor if you don't want to be a sniper. There are weapon respawns and crates to hide behind. My personal favourite, I would consider this stage to be the best one of all. ============== )))5. Modes((( ============== You have a choice of six modes for multiplayer. I have given the game description and added my own comments. Death Match ----------- *Shoot everyone else. *Grab any weapons you find lying around and use them. *Be the last one standing when the smoke clears. My comments: Okay... Well, that just about sums it up. Put a time limit on and Death Match is just like it was on Goldeneye. The best mode in my opinion. Lethal Tag ---------- *Rack up more points than everyone else by keeping command of the white cube. *Rack up points by shooting opponents while in command of the cube or eluding their fire. *Get seven points, you win. My comments: Again, the description says it all. You must keep hold of the cube in order to score. Just remember that as long as you have it, no one else does. Cube Hunt --------- *Grab all seven coloured cubes. *Touch the cubes to add them to your inventory. *Every time you take a hit you lose one cube. *First one to collect all seven colours wins. My comments: A pretty lame game, considering. Liven things up by annoying those trying to win quickly by hiding and sniping cube spawn points. Quick Draw ---------- *Shoot all seven cubes in order as fast as you can. *When you hit one colour, the next one appears. *First one to get all seven cubes in the correct order wins. My comments: Having a speedy character (like Jin) really helps. Unlike in most games, Gunt and Thunder are pretty much useless. Team Battle ----------- *The team version of "Death Match". *Take out all three members of the opposite team to win. My comments: Death Match but with alliances with your friends! What more could you ask for? ===================== )))6. Hints & Tips((( ===================== *When you play any match, a pointer appears in the top left hand corner of the screen. Use it to locate other players. *Make full use of all of your abilities. Sidle, roll and all the rest as much as possible to stay alive. Rolling is more useful than you might think. *Try out the extra ability you get in multiplayer, that of jumping over railings. Handy if you're being chased from behind. *Don't ignore all the objects that are part of the scenery. Crates should be crouched behind, walls sidled along. I seriously cannot stress enough how interacting with the scenery will help you against your friends. *Remember that characters with only normal abilities are often faster and more easily manipulated than their special counterparts. You can use a shotgun or SMG if you take any of the S.C.A.T. team, but this is not possible with the Crying Lions (apart from with the Terrorists). *I find that setting the stage and characters at random makes for a more fun game. You have no knowledge of who and where you'll be. This makes you feel better if you end up with a powerful special character, and you'll have to cope against other more powerful foes if you end up with a weak one. *Make use of explosive crates to take off about half of your opponents' energy. ========================= )))7.
