While some may argue, that V Rally has better graphics, or Mario Kart is more fun, if you want a simple, no nonsense racing game, this is for you. In this FAQ I will hopefully guide you through the game so you can unlock ALL 97 cars, the 3 Extra Modes, and all the Tuning Parts. Sometimes in the guide I may get my left and rights mixed up, that’s what you get when you try to stay up until 4am drinking coke to keep awake (it does kind of work, but it also acts as a laxative [hah! General Notes - How to beat the Game ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Firsts, you have to get Gold medals on ALL of the tracks in Championship Mode in ALL Classes. This includes Licenses. You will then unlock an Expert Mode, where you will have to do exactly what you just did, in Expert Mode, i.e. the races are harder, the Time Limits are smaller. THEN you will unlock the three Extra Modes: Radio Con(trol), Kart and Wireframe. Now you have to race all those tracks again, in Quick Race mode. Finally you have to get the last 6 cars from Drift Combo mode. Then you SHOULD have all the cars, tuning parts, extra modes and tracks! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 5.) Driving Tips ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• This game is actually all about driving, if you haven’t realised yet. Here’s a variety of tips to help you. Drifting ======== Drifting, also called power sliding or fish tailing is a technique which involves you ‘sliding’ the car around the corners. Basically, if you can’t do this, you won’t be able to beat the game. There are two reasons: One, if you can’t, you probably won’t get all the licences and two, you need to be able to drift for the Drift Combo part. Duh! To drift, you start turning early, and brake into the corner, then accelerate out. Sometimes, if you’re going fast enough and it's not to tight a corner you don’t have to brake. Racing Styles ============= There’s two racing styles I use: The ‘proper’ style, and the ‘try-to-kill-yourself’ style. The latter only works on circuit tracks, and only if you have a fast car. I used it in the Quick Race mode to unlock the Fairlady Z Z32, and basically, you just forget your brakes and go around like crazy. And it works. The other style doesn’t really need any explanation. Cornering ========= Most of these have been ‘borrowed’ from Emery0083, because he seems to have summed it up better than I could. There are three kinds of normal turns, plus two uhh, ‘abnormal turns’. These are: Blue : These are ‘easy’ corners. Orange : Mid’s Red : These are either hairpins, or ‘hards’. S Bend : These are usually composed of a hairpin and a mid. Chicane: These are easy, just go through them diagonally. [Taking Corners (AT)] Blue corners pose no real threat at all, just blow around them. Yellow corners are not difficult either. Though when going around one it would be smart to let off the gas for just a bit. Orange corners can be difficult. These require a bit more finesse. Hold the gas and drift your way around the corner, more then likely you will need to hit the brake some in the middle of the turn to keep better traction. Red corners are the hardest. These are mostly hairpin turns. What you need to do is brake about two car lengths before you get to the red and white striped borders on the corner. The you need to start drifting your car alternating between gas and brake. [Taking Corners (MT)] Blue corners pose no real threat when driving a MT car either. Yellow corners are not difficult in MT either. Just follow the same instructions for AT cars. Orange corners need a bit more in MT. While still holding the gas your car will begin to drift its way around the corner. Near the middle of the corner you will need to hit the brakes some and shift down one gear. Re-apply the gas and brake as needed to straighten out and keep traction. When you feel comfortable and are out of the drifting shift back up when needed. Dark orange corners are the hardest. You will need to brake around three car lengths before the corner and drop one gear. Now drift around the corner holding the gas. In mid-corner again hit the brake and drop a gear if needed. Straighten out your car and if you can go up one gear. Continue through the corner and you got it. Course Types ============ There are four course types, each with it’s own attributes. Circuit: These are normal, racing circuit tracks, with no walls, just grass. Actually there are some walls, but not right up against the track. Highway: These are composed of mainly ‘hard’ turns and are raced on surprise, surprise, Highways! In Championship Mode these races will always be at night. City : This is a bit like Highway, except there are narrower roads, etc... Winding: These are REALLY slow. Mostly hairpins. Weather ======= There are three weather conditions in this game. Fine: This doesn’t affect your car’s performance in anyway. Cloudy: Apart from the sky (which might put you off a teeny bit) this shouldn’t affect you either. Rain: Yay. Rain. Handling is severely reduced, more slippin’ and Slidin’. Times of Day ============ Noon: The ‘time-of-no-shadows’ (okay, I used to watch Rugrats when I was little). Easy to drive. Evening: The sky’s a bit red, but that’s all. Night: This is REALLY annoying. I put it down to the lously programmers not being able to blend in the lights. So they have to make it flickery. Championship Mode ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• In this section, I will give you step by step guides on how to beat ALL of the tracks in this guide. In fact, I’m so generous I’m going to give them to you TWICE. Once for normal, once for Professional. So strap yourself in for lots of racing action! ================================================================= Beginners Class ================================================================= Licence Basic 1 Test Car : Daihatsu midget II Course : Straight Time Limit : 00'13"86 Notes : Too easy! Just hold down . ================================================================= Licence Basic 2 Test Car : Daihatsu MOVE Course : Easy Curve Time Limit : 00'15"18 Notes : Easy! Hold and take the left corner at full speed. Don't oversteer. Refer to notes on Licences for GOLD medal strategies ================================================================= Licence Basic 3 Test Car : Suzuki wagonR RR Course : Middle Curve Time Limit : 00'15"50 Notes : This is pretty simple as well. Hold and it's a slightly steeper, right curve. You have your licence! Refer to notes on Licences for GOLD medal strategies ================================================================= Hornet Unlocks : Toyota Corolla Levin AE86 (TUNED) Record : 1'38"71 Description: The course kicks off with an easy enough left. You can then stretch out on a long straight before negotiating middle left. Another straight leads into a hairpin which you will want to start turning for quite early but leave the brakes out until you reach the corner. After a mid right you'll be faced with another hairpin which is the toughest corner of the course. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st! Easy! ================================================================= Local Dog Unlocks : Filter (Special), Daihatsu MAX GQSZ Record : 1'53"36 Description: Forward after the line and you'll hit an easy left. After a short stretch cruise into an easy mid right and another mid-left. Another mid-right and you'll be faced with a hairpin that you can just slide around. After an easy left then a tiny right (you don't have to turn for it) you'll be faced with another hairpin that you should brake quite early for. Mid-right then a succession of mid-lefts will get you to the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : Another easy win! ================================================================= Big Core Unlocks : Toyota MR-S ZZW30 Record : 1'49"11 Description: This course only has 2 parts that may pose you trouble. An easy left leads into a long straight then another two easy-lefts with a straight in between. Start turning by the time the you reach the red borders and you'll be fine. At the end of the straight you'll reach a left hairpin. You'll need to start braking 2-3 car lengths before the turn then accelerate out. Don't be afraid to run into that tree. After a mid-right you'll see an exclamation mark come up but don't be too afraid. The course will narrow a bit and you'll have to do a mid-right. The course will then return to its former width. Now the other hard part: If you're not careful with the upcoming hairpin and you go onto the grass you risk the chance of spinning out. It's quite easy to do this. Remember: Brake in, turn, accelerate out. 1st lap: 6th, possibly 5th. 2nd lap: 2nd or 3rd Finish : Another, rather simple win. Just be careful on the last couple of corners. ================================================================= Plastic Bomb Unlocks : CPU (Special), Mazda MX-5 Milan MPS Record : 2'11"70 Description: Go forward and you'll face an easy right, followed by a straight and another easy right. You'll then face a hard-right then an easy right which actually isn't that easy because the road narrows. After an easy left (try not to over- run) there's a left chicane. There will then be a hard right followed by a nice long straight. Start turning for the next hard quite early and you won't have a problem. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 2nd, or even 1st. Finish : Easy win! ================================================================= Night Kids Unlocks : Nissan Silva S14 Record : 2'15"70 Description: The race starts off with a succession of easy lefts, which shouldn't pose a problem to you. The road will then appear to fork, but the right road is blocked so swing your car to the left. At the end of the narrow straight is a hairpin which you will want to brake for. Another long straight then a right HP followed closely by a left. After another straight you'll hit an easy right then a mid-left. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 4th, possible 3rd. Finish : As long as you're cornering is up to scratch you'll cross the line first. ================================================================= Hello World Unlocks : Muffler (Steel), Subaru IMPREZA WRX STi version VI GC8 Record : 2'12"16 Description: This track is quite a bit harder than the previous ones and it took me a while to finish it. I used the Mitsubishi LANCER GSR Evolution III, you might have another preference. Go forward and then you'll be faced with an 'S' bend. Some are a mid-left/right followed by a hairpin right/left and others are reversed. You'll have to keep an eye on your map while racing. Anyway, take the 'S', braking on the hairpin part. Accelerate out and there'll be 2 mid rights in a row. After a straight take the easy right followed by the easy-left and another straight, where you'll find a right hairpin. Go forward and the next S bend will be a left HP followed by a right HP. Go down the nice long straight then turn early for the mid-right and cruise over the finish. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st, as long as you don't cut too many corners :) and corner intelligently. ================================================================= Doco Moco Unlocks : Suzuki MR wagon SUZUKI SPORT MF21S Record : 2'50"53 Description: Another night race on the streets, this track is made up of right angled turns only (except the last corner which is a hairpin). The key to this is your car selection, a nice fast car would be good (i.e. not a wagon, truck etc...). You'll start on a nice long straight but don't be fooled by the width of the highway, it gets narrower. At the end of this, take a right. Then there's another long straight followed by a right, then yet another straight followed by a right. After this there's... another straight followed by a right, although this straight is shorter. After a short straight there'll be ANOTHER right then two quick lefts. After another slightly longer straight you'll take a left then hit the hairpin, which is just two rights stuck together. FINISH! 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 4th, hopefully 3rd Finish : Win! ================================================================= Peak Peak Unlocks : Suspension (Spring), Daihatsu Copen Record : 2'37"66 Description: The race starts off with a mid right. After an easy right and an easy left you'll hit to mid rights in a row. Then there's an easy-left and a straight. You'll now get a '!'. Brake early and take the corner with brakes all the way. The ! was there because the track narrows down substantially. Now you'll face a series of HP's. Left, right, left right. Then you'll hit the finish. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : Another win, not too easy but manageable. ================================================================= Medium Class ================================================================= Licence Corner 1 Test Car : Sprinter Trueno Course : Corner Time Limit : 00'14"90 Notes : This is a 90-degree turn. Refer to the notes on Licences for tips. ================================================================= Licence Corner 2 Test Car : MX-5 Miala Course : Hairpin Time Limit : 00'15"30 Notes : Hairpin. Refer to the notes on Licences and corners. ================================================================= Licence Corner 3 Test Car : CIVIC TypeR Course : Complex Time Limit : 00'20"25 Notes : Made up of an easy left then a mid-left. Takes a bit of practice. Refer to notes on Licences for tips. ================================================================= Micro Coat Unlocks : Honda S2000 AP1 Record : 2'00"16 Description: I'm a little embarrassed to say this but it took me a while to get this gold. I eventually found out that I hadn't tuned the car to the max and after I changed to the Impreza my top speed had risen 30mph! Always tune! The track kicks off with a right HP. After an easy left and a couple of easy rights you'll face another right hairpin then a left HP. A couple of mid-rights then an easy left finishes off the race. 1st lap: 5th, maybe even 4th 2nd lap: 2nd Finish : Easy first! ================================================================= Gateway Unlocks : LSD (Special), Toyota Celica ZZT231 Record : 2'14"13 Description: This track is corners, corners, corners. If you can corner, you can win. Straight off the line and you'll hit a mid-right. It's rather drawn out and doesn't require brakes. Then an easy left followed by a succession of mid-rights which form the 'bulb' part of the track. Then there's a left HP, which doesn't require brakes either followed by another easy left and a right HP. Go down the straight and a mid-right leads into another straight and the finish line. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd, 2nd if you're really good Finish : Another easy win. ================================================================= Runner Way Unlocks : Toyota Supra JZA70 Record : 4'07"98 Description: Once again, the Impreza excels on this track. It is basically just 90 deg. turns, but some are listed as hairpins. These are just two mid's in a row, and you won't get to straighten up in between. Start off with a left hairpin. Don't turn to hard for the second half. Then, two hard rights in a row, but with a gap in between. After that there'll be two hard lefts, followed by a straight and another left. After an easy right HP then a left HP you'll be able to let that car rip on a nice long straight. Then a left HP and a right HP that you'll want to brake early for. A hard left takes you to the chequered flag. 1st lap: 4th if you're good 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st! ================================================================= Sprint Maze Unlocks : Engine (Light Tune) Honda CIVIC TypeR EP3 Record : 2'00"68 Description: Another street race, the key to this is to not bump into the walls, which is quite easy. It starts off with a easy right (actually, I think it might be two rights). You'll then get a warning, because the track is about to split. Position yourself in the second lane from the left and get ready for the fork. Once it forks you'll get two mid-rights followed by an easy- right then an easy left. Next up is a left HP which you'll want to brake for. After a straight you'll get two mid-rights followed by another straight, a right chicane, and yet another mid-right to the finish. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st, though it may take a couple of attempts and it'll be pretty tight. ================================================================= Beat Sweet Unlocks : Mazda RX-8 Record : 02'23"88 Description: This track is all about braking at the right time. It starts off with a mid-right into an easy left. After a short straight you'll want to start braking for the left HP which leads into a weird kind of corner. Just cut it. After that you'll get two mid-rights in a row which require average braking. Now for a nice long straight. Drift around the left HP at the end and brake a tiny bit into the easy left. Brake again into the mid-right and get set for another straight. At the end of this you'll face another mid-right, and if it's not your final lap, drift through to the mid-right once you've passed the finish. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st! ================================================================= Super Pass Unlocks : Weight (Special) , Nissan SILVA S15 Record : 3'33"13 Description: This is another track that focuses on braking, with an added twist: rain. Actually, it’s not as hard as it looks: I managed to get to first by the end of the second lap. It starts off with a straight then a mid-left. After a short straight you'll get and S bend (mid left to right HP) then a couple of mid- lefts. After along straight rush madly around the two mid-lefts and ignore that warning sign. Yes, I'm being serious. Now for a series of hairpins. They go right, left, right, left. The basic strategy for these is to slide around them, braking quite early and judging your turn and acceleration times well. To some it comes naturally, to most it requires a fair amount of practice. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd, 2nd, even 1st Finish : Judge the corners well and get an easy win. ================================================================= Great Reef Unlocks : Honda INTEGRA TypeR DC5 Record : 2'23"93 Description: Not another Highway race. This is another track that relies on good braking, but don't they all? All corners are either hard's or hairpins. Forward off the line and it's left. Now you'll get a warning. Here you'll have to pull off a hairpin turn, in driving school they'd call it a 'U-turn' because you're just doubling back on the same road. Start turning early and brake heavily. Don't hit the traffic island. After a straight and a right there'll be another nice long straight then a right into another straight. Be careful with that right, make sure you turn into the right (left) side of the road. The next hard right you'll have a bit of lee- way on the pavement but try to stay off. Then another right that requires substantial braking (don't get jammed up next to the yellow border). After yet another straight it's a hard left into the finish. 1st lap: 6th, 5th if you're good 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : Comfortable first. ================================================================= Dump Line Unlocks : Suspension (Sports), Nissan STAGEA NM35 Record : 3'21"60 Description: This is quite an annoying track to finish off medium class, purely because it's night. Those lights can really put you off... Also, the road is quite narrow. The race starts off with an easy left into a mid- right. Then there's an easy right, followed by a mid right, then a left HP. Brake for all of these. Out of the hairpin into an easy left, then two mid rights in a row. After that there's another left HP followed by an easy right. Time your hard right nicely then it's easy right, easy left. Then there's an S bend followed by a short straight, hard right, and another S bend in to the finish. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : Win! You've completed Medium Class! ================================================================= Highspeed Class ================================================================= Licence Corner 1 Test Car : FTO Course : S Curve Time Limit : 00'13"55 Notes : Extremely simple. Basically a mid right followed by a mid left. GOLD it easily. ================================================================= Licence Corner 2 Test Car : MR-S Course : S Curve 2 Time Limit : 00'20"11 Notes : I found that the best approach is to forget your brakes and whiz round the corners with your foot on the gas. Time the corners correctly and you’ll get a GOLD. ================================================================= Licence Corner 3 Test Car : S2000 Course : Hornet Time Limit : 00'30"70 Notes : Remember this? It's the first track in Beginners Class. The secret to getting GOLD is to go wide on the first hairpin, and turn early, almost cutting the corner, no brakes. You should stay on the track and not lose too much speed. You've got your Licence! ================================================================= Mountain Dop Unlocks : Subaru LEGACY B4 BE5 Record : 3'16"48 Description : I love cornering on this track, they're so smooth and flow together nicely. Anyway, before you get started, the 'hairpins' on this track are very wide and loose, so don't oversteer. Go straight off the line and get set for a mid left, followed by an easy left and an easy right. Now for the first hairpin. You'll want to brake, accelerate, brake, accelerate while turning to keep a smooth path. Once out it's straight into an easy left then an easy right, followed by a mid right. After the straight, it's another mid right and a straight, followed by the second hairpin, this time to the right. Use the technique described above. Then it's straight into another left hairpin, a tiny easy right then two mid lefts. After another straight take the mid left into the final stretch. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd, possibly 2nd Finish : 1st! Easy! ================================================================= Drag Marker Unlocks : Muffler (Stainless Steel) Toyota ALTEZZA SXE10 Record : 2'45"25 Description : First turn is a mid right then an S bend (rl) followed by a mid right and another S bend (rl), this one a bit sharper. Four easy rights lead into yet another S bend (lr) which requires heavy braking. After a straight there's a right HP, followed by a straight, easy right then a difficult (BRAKE!) left HP to finish off. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 4th Finish : 1st, might take a couple of tries though. ================================================================= Out Run Unlocks : Toyota MARK II Tourer V JZX90 Record : 3'04"81 Description : This is one of those courses you'll have to redo a couple of times to get the cornering right. After the straight the road will narrow a lane just before you go into a right HP. Then there's a mid left just before you go into another right HP. An easy left leads into a left HP, which requires A LOT of braking then a straight. After a mid-right the road will revert back to it's original width before a left HP. There will then be a nice long straight with a tiny right chicane somewhere in the middle before a mid right. Another long straight with a slight bend to the right then an easy right leads to the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 3rd, possibly 2nd Finish : Win! ================================================================= About Way Unlocks : Seat (Special), Toyota Verossa JZX110 Record : 3'42"35 Description : Rain. Rain. Rain. Another Highway track with rain. Hard left, into hard right, into hard left into straight, caution weird corner . Once you get up to the end of the straight, your GBA will proclaim a hard left. DON'T turn a hard left, turn a mid-easy left, and go diagonally through that left-right-left. Now for a long straight terminating with a left HP that you should brake most of the way around. You've reached an annoying part now: hard left, right, left, right. If you don't brake enough you'll go crashing in the sides. Then there's a hard right and a straight before you get to a left HP. This is actually a misnomer as if you treat it like the HP before you won't get round the corner. Instead you have to stop turning for a second or two, then continue around the second half. Then it's just a short straight to the line. 1st lap: 6th, possibly 5th 2nd lap: 4th Finish : 1st, though it might take a while, and be a close finish. ================================================================= Plain Runner Unlocks : Mazda MAZDA 6 Record : 2'19"91 Description : For the S bends, and some of the mids on this track, you will require a fair bit of braking, so be careful. The race kicks of with an S bend (lr). Then there's a mid-right followed by a caution, as the road narrows. There's then a mid-left, followed by a mid-right and a straight, followed by another S bend (lr). All of these corners will require heavy braking. Then it’s two mid rights and a short straight into a left hairpin, that you’ll have to brake like crazy for. Into the next mid right, then another and an easy left. you’ll have to brake for another left HP, then you’ll have to go round the final loop: easy left, mid right, short straight, mid right, easy left. You have to time your braking and accelerating perfectly so you don’t lose any speed. Then it’s right chicane and a hard left to the finish. An easy right leads into a right HP followed by a mid left then a left HP. Straight after this there’s an S bend (lr) then an easy left. After this there’s a right HP followed by an easy right. You have to turn a bit harder for this corner. After an easy right and a mid left there’s an easy left leading into a right HP. There’s then an easy right followed by a left HP. After an easy right there’s a tricky right HP. You’ll have to brake hard for this, turning as you go. Then it’s just a straight into the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 4th Finish : 1st. A highway track. Not too many corners :). Off the line there’s a long straight then a hard right. This is just like Assault: A SLOW track. Maybe even slower. For this track I’m not going to do the usual commentary/description thing. Just a list of corners, with comments where necessary. Easy left, unmentioned easy right. Mid left, mid left, mid right, right HP, left HP: heavy braking. Easy left, easy left, easy right, left HP. mid right, easy left, left HP. Mid right, easy left, right HP. Mid right, easy left, easy right, left HP. Easy right, easy left, right HP (big slide). Mid right, easy right, left HP. Straight! S bend (lr), left HP, easy right, Finish! 1st lap: 4th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st, easily, because you should have plenty of time. ================================================================= Skyscraper Unlocks : Nissan SKYLINE GT-R BNR34 Record : 2’26”32 Description : This is a very odd track, because it’s a highway with easies and mid’s and curved hairpins. It’s all about taking corners at very high speeds. The course starts off with a straight followed by a series of easies: right, right, left then a right HP. Then there’s a left HP followed by two mid rights. If you are good, you’ll be able to slide nicely around the next hard right. It takes a bit of practice but isn’t to hard. Then there’s a tight left HP, a right HP, then a short sprint to the finish. 1st lap: 6th, almost 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st. If you find you’re just not fast enough, make sure you’re using the GTO or the Impreza, fully tuned. Also try not to bump into those sides, they really slow you down. ================================================================= Slippery Unlocks : Toyota ARISTO JZS161 Record : 3’43”20 Description : A very complex track with quite a few tricky corners. After the short straight there’s a hard right then an easy left. After two mid lefts there’s a straight followed by an easy left then an S bend (lr). You’ll probably have to start braking once you get to the easy left then drift around. Once out there’s a left HP which needs a lot of brakes then a right HP, which is even harder. Following that there’s a hard right then an easy right then a long straight which ends in a (caution) easy left followed by a hairpin. You have to be very careful on this corner and brake very hard. Try to drift around the whole thing on brakes. It’s then just a straight to the finish. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 2nd Finish : Easy win! ================================================================= Flash Speed Unlocks : Extra - Kart, Honda NSX NA2, Expert Mode (depends) Record : 5’28”55 Description : This is another course with lots of corners. The average speed is about 80mph so it doesn’t really matter what car you choose, as long as its acceleration isn’t bad. Once again, I will be just listing the corners with a couple of notes. After an easy left then a tiny right (you don't have to turn for it) you'll be faced with another hairpin that you should brake quite early for. You'll need to start braking 2-3 car lengths before the turn then accelerate out. After a mid right you'll see an exclamation mark come up but don't be too afraid. The course will narrow a bit and you'll have to do a mid right. The course will then return to its former width. Now it’s just a hairpin to the finish. You'll start on a nice long straight but don't be fooled by the width of the highway, it gets narrower. At the end of this, take a right. Then there's another long straight followed by a right, then yet another straight followed by a right. After this there's... another straight followed by a right, although this straight is shorter. After a short straight there'll be ANOTHER right then two quick lefts. After another slightly longer straight you'll take a left then hit the hairpin, which is just two rights stuck together. You can drift all the way around this. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : Win! Easy! ================================================================= Peak Peak Unlocks : Nissan SILVIA S14 (Tuned) Record : 2'37"66 Description: The race starts off with a mid-right. The ! was there because the track narrows down substantially. Now you'll face a series of HP's. Left, right, left right. Start off with a left hairpin. Don't turn to hard for the second half. Then, two hard rights in a row, but with a gap in between. After that there'll be two hard lefts, followed by a straight and another left. After an easy right HP then a left HP you'll be able to let that car rip on a nice long straight. Then a left HP and a right HP that you'll want to brake early for. A hard left takes you to the chequered flag. 1st lap: 5th (yes, you’ll probably be lapped right at the start) 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st! ================================================================= Sprint Maze Unlocks : Nissan Fairlady 240Z HS30 Record : 2'00"68 Description: Another street race, the key to this is to not bump into the walls, which is quite easy. It starts off with a easy right (actually, I think it might be two rights). You'll then get a warning, because the track is about to split. Position yourself in the second lane from the left and get ready for the fork. Once it forks you'll get two mid-rights followed by an easy- right then an easy left. Next up is a left HP which you'll want to brake for. After a straight you'll get two mid-rights followed by another straight, a right chicane, and yet another mid-right to the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 5th or 3rd Finish : 1st! ================================================================= Beat Sweet Unlocks : Subaru LEGACY Touring Wagon BH5 Record : 02'23"88 Description: This track is all about braking at the right time. It starts off with a mid-right into an easy left. After a short straight you'll want to start braking for the left HP which leads into a weird kind of corner. Just cut it. After that you'll get two mid-rights in a row which require average braking. Now for a nice long straight. Drift around the left HP at the end and brake a tiny bit into the easy left. Brake again into the mid-right and get set for another straight. At the end of this you'll face another mid-right, and if it's not your final lap, drift through to the mid-right once you've passed the finish. 1st lap: 6th or 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st! ================================================================= Super Pass Unlocks : Toyota SPRINTER TRUENO AE86 (Tuned) Record : 3'33"13 Description: This is another track that focuses on braking, with an added twist: rain. Actually, it’s not as hard as it looks: I managed to get to first by the end of the second lap. It starts off with a straight then a mid-left. After a short straight you'll get and S bend (mid left to right HP) then a couple of mid- lefts. After along straight rush madly around the two mid-lefts and ignore that warning sign. Yes, I'm being serious. Now for a series of hairpins. They go right, left, right, left. The basic strategy for these is to slide around them, braking quite early and judging your turn and acceleration times well. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : Easy win. ================================================================= Great Reef Unlocks : Toyota MR-S ZZW30 Record : 2'23"93 Description: Forward off the line and it's left. Now you'll get a warning. Here you'll have to pull off a hairpin turn, in driving school they'd call it a 'U-turn' because you're just doubling back on the same road. Start turning early and brake heavily. Don't hit the traffic island. After a straight and a right there'll be another nice long straight then a right into another straight. Be careful with that right, make sure you turn into the right (left) side of the road. The next hard right you'll have a bit of lee- way on the pavement but try to stay off. Then another right that requires substantial braking (don't get jammed up next to the yellow border). After yet another straight it's a hard left into the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 5th or 4th Finish : First, but not as easy as last time. ================================================================= Dump Line Unlocks : Toyota MARK II Tourer V Record : 3'21"60 Description: The race starts off with an easy left into a mid- right. Then there's an easy right, followed by a mid right, then a left HP. Brake for all of these. Out of the hairpin into an easy left, then two mid rights in a row. After that there's another left HP followed by an easy right. Time your hard right nicely then it's easy right, easy left. Then there's an S bend followed by a short straight, hard right, and another S bend in to the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : Win! ================================================================= Highspeed Class ================================================================= Licence Corner 1 Test Car : FTO Course : S Curve Time Limit : 00'13"55 Notes : Extremely simple. Basically a mid right followed by a mid left. GOLD it easily. ================================================================= Licence Corner 2 Test Car : MR-S Course : S Curve 2 Time Limit : 00'20"11 Notes : I found that the best approach is to forget your brakes and whiz round the corners with your foot on the gas. Time the corners correctly and you’ll get a GOLD. ================================================================= Licence Corner 3 Test Car : S2000 Course : Hornet Time Limit : 00'30"20 Notes : Remember this? It's the first track in Beginners Class. The secret to getting GOLD is to go wide on the first hairpin, and turn early, almost cutting the corner, no brakes. You should stay on the track and not lose too much speed. You've got your Licence! It’ll probably take a while to get it, but persevere. ================================================================= Mountain Dop Unlocks : Nissan SKYLINE GT-R BNR32 Record : 3'16"48 Description : Go straight off the line and get set for a mid left, followed by an easy left and an easy right. Now for the first hairpin. You'll want to brake, accelerate, brake, accelerate while turning to keep a smooth path. Once out it's straight into an easy left then an easy right, followed by a mid right. After the straight, it's another mid right and a straight, followed by the second hairpin, this time to the right. Use the technique described above. Then it's straight into another left hairpin, a tiny easy right then two mid lefts. After another straight take the mid left into the final stretch. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 2nd Finish : 1st! Easy! ================================================================= Drag Marker Unlocks : Subaru IMPREZA WRX Sti GDB (Tuned) Record : 2'45"25 Description : There are two ways, you can do this track, the proper ‘stay-on-track’ way, or the ‘go-real-fast- and-try-to-kill-yourself’ way. Not surprisingly, I took the second option, and won easily, so it’s really up to you. First turn is a mid right then an S bend (rl) followed by a mid right and another S bend (rl), this one a bit sharper. Four easy rights lead into yet another S bend (lr) which requires heavy braking. After a straight there's a right HP, followed by a straight, easy right then a difficult (BRAKE!) left HP to finish off. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd, possibly 2nd Finish : 1st, might take a couple of tries though. ================================================================= Out Run Unlocks : Toyota CHASER Tourer V JZX100 Record : 3'04"81 Description : This is one of those courses you'll have to redo a couple of times to get the cornering right. After the straight the road will narrow a lane just before you go into a right HP. Then there's a mid left just before you go into another right HP. An easy left leads into a left HP, which requires A LOT of braking then a straight. After a mid-right the road will revert back to it's original width before a left HP. There will then be a nice long straight with a tiny right chicane somewhere in the middle before a mid right. Another long straight with a slight bend to the right then an easy right leads to the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 4th, possibly 3rd Finish : Win! ================================================================= About Way Unlocks : Toyota Supra JZA80 (Tuned) Record : 3'42"35 Description : Rain. Rain. Rain. Another Highway track with rain. You have to be careful because lots of hards in a row equals trouble. Hard left, into hard right, into hard left into straight, caution weird corner . Once you get up to the end of the straight, your GBA will proclaim a hard left. DON'T turn a hard left, turn a mid-easy left, and go diagonally through that left-right-left. Now for a long straight terminating with a left HP that you should brake most of the way around. You've reached an annoying part now: hard left, right, left, right. If you don't brake enough you'll go crashing in the sides. Then there's a hard right and a straight before you get to a left HP. This is actually a misnomer as if you treat it like the HP before you won't get round the corner. Instead you have to stop turning for a second or two, then continue around the second half. Then it's just a short straight to the line. 1st lap: 6th, possibly 5th 2nd lap: 4th Finish : 1st, though it might take a while, and be a close finish. ================================================================= Plain Runner Unlocks : Toyota MR2 SW20 (Tuned) Record : 2'19"91 Description : For the S bends, and some of the mids on this track, you will require a fair bit of braking, so be careful. After an unlisted easy left there’s another straight into a right HP. It’s easy to oversteer, so be careful. Then there’s a left HP, a straight, then another left HP. Easy right, easy left then a straight into a hard left. Next is a quick easy right then a left HP and an easy right HP into the line. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 4th Finish : 1st eventually... I have no idea what I did to get the gold. I was getting 17’30’s for a While, then suddenly, out of the blue, I somehow got 15”66. This is what I did: Straight until it starts to turn then hard, straight a bit until the road starts to bend then another right, then instead of going through the chicane nicely, I went hard-ish right then left. I’ve got the pictures to prove it if you want... ================================================================= Licence Special 2 Test Car : IMPREZA WRX Sti version VI Course : COMPLEX 2 Time Limit : 00’20”68 Notes : Another one that will take a while to do. It’s not impossible, but it’s definitely not easy. Go forward then take the mid left without any brakes. The first part of the S bend you won’t have to brake for but it’s the second part that determines whether you’ll do well. You have to time your braking and accelerating perfectly so you don’t lose any speed. Then it’s right chicane and a hard left to the finish. Then it’s two mid lefts and a right chicane followed by another right HP, though it’s not as tight. A right chicane splits the next straight, terminating in a mid right followed closely by an S bend (rl). Next it’s a straight, easy right, another straight, and a left chicane. A mid right leads into the finish. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : Even if you don’t always stay on the course, you shouldn’t have too many troubles here. 1st! ================================================================= Blast Laps Unlocks : Toyota ARISTO JZS161 Record : 4’18”30 Description : The track starts off with an easy right then an easy left. After that there’s a mid left followed by a straight then a left HP. There’s another straight, a right HP then another straight. Be careful with the next HP, because about 3/4 through it the road will narrow. Then there’s an easy left, easy right, then a mid right. After a short straight there’s a left HP into the line. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 4th Finish : Shouldn’t be too hard to win. Just don’t bang into the sides too much. ================================================================= Assault Unlocks : Mitsubishi GTO Z16A Record : 5’00”20 Description : This is a very SLOW track. Lots of hairpins and tight turns equals lots of braking. The track starts off with a straight, the only straight on the course. Then there’s a right HP, followed by a short straight, a left HP then another right HP. After two mid lefts there’s a right HP. An easy right leads into a right HP followed by a mid left then a left HP. Straight after this there’s an S bend (lr) then an easy left. After this there’s a right HP followed by an easy right. You have to turn a bit harder for this corner. After an easy right and a mid left there’s an easy left leading into a right HP. There’s then an easy right followed by a left HP. After an easy right there’s a tricky right HP. You’ll have to brake hard for this, turning as you go. Then it’s just a straight into the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 4th Finish : 1st. It might be a bit tight but you Should get there. ================================================================= Knock Down Unlocks : Nissan SILVIA S15 (Tuned) Record : 3’07”15 Description : Yay! A highway track. Not too many corners :). Off the line there’s a long straight then a hard right. After a very long straight there’s a hard right that’ll need a bit of braking then another straight followed by a hard right, then another two hard rights. Now there’s two slow mid lefts followed by a straight, then a left HP. Now there’s a hard right followed by two easy rights and a hard right to the end. 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : An easy win! ================================================================= Terrible Mountain Unlocks : Toyota ALTEZZA SXE10 Record : 5’12”55 Description : There’s no mountain, but it’s definitely terrible. This is just like Assault: A SLOW track. Maybe even slower. For this track I’m not going to do the usual commentary/description thing. Just a list of corners, with comments where necessary. Easy left, unmentioned easy right. Mid left, mid left, mid right, right HP, left HP: heavy braking. Easy left, easy left, easy right, left HP. mid right, easy left, left HP. Mid right, easy left, right HP. Mid right, easy left, easy right, left HP. Easy right, easy left, right HP (big slide). Mid right, easy right, left HP. Straight! S bend (lr), left HP, easy right, Finish! 1st lap: 5th 2nd lap: 4th Finish : 1st, not too bad. ================================================================= Skyscraper Unlocks : Toyota CHASER Tourer V JZX100 Record : 2’26”32 Description : This is a very odd track, because it’s a highway with easies and mid’s and curved hairpins. It’s all about taking corners at very high speeds. The course starts off with a straight followed by a series of easies: right, right, left then a right HP. Then there’s a left HP followed by two mid rights. If you are good, you’ll be able to slide nicely around the next hard right. It takes a bit of practice but isn’t to hard. Then there’s a tight left HP, a right HP, then a short sprint to the finish. 1st lap: 6th, almost 5th 2nd lap: 3rd Finish : 1st. Try not to hit the sides too much. ================================================================= Slippery Unlocks : Mazda RX-7 FD3S (Tuned) Record : 3’43”20 Description : A very complex track with quite a few tricky corners. After the short straight there’s a hard right then an easy left. After two mid lefts there’s a straight followed by an easy left then an S bend (lr). You’ll probably have to start braking once you get to the easy left then drift around. Once out there’s a left HP which needs a lot of brakes then a right HP, which is even harder. Following that there’s a hard right then an easy right then a long straight which ends in a (caution) easy left followed by a hairpin. You have to be very careful on this corner and brake very hard. Try to drift around the whole thing on brakes. It’s then just a straight to the finish. 1st lap: 6th 2nd lap: 4th maybe 3rd Finish : Not as easy as last time: you have to keep CONTROL of your car. ================================================================= Flash Speed Unlocks : Extra - Radio Con, Extra - WIRE FRAME, Nissan SKYLINE GT-R BNR34 (Tuned) Record : 5’28”55 Description : This is another course with lots of corners. The average speed is about 80mph so it doesn’t really matter what car you choose, as long as its acceleration isn’t bad. Once again, I will be just listing the corners with a couple of notes. Mid left, right HP, left HP, right HP: Don’t oversteer. Left HP, right HP, easy left, hard left, hard left. Easy right, right HP, mid left, S bend (rl). Mid left, right HP, left HP, right HP.
