[ COAM4.1 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright, well, let's start with the controls, shall we? D-Pad - Moves the Knight around. Press the Down Button to duck and stay there and the Up Button to rise again. Also when holding the Up Button and using the B Button to attack, you'll swing your Sword instead of stabbing with it straight forward. Select - Does nothing. Start - Pauses the game. B Button - Used to attack with your Sword. A Button - Makes the Knight Jump. Hold it down to jump higher/farther. Well, there's the controls. Now, let's check out the Menu in the game, which is shown at the top of the screen at all times. Health - Displays 6 Hearts, which represent your Health. When a Heart becomes small, that means you've taken damage and then when it goes away, you've taken even more damage. If you run out of Health at any time, you die and you'll come back to life where you last died, but at the cost of 1 Life. Knight Helmet - Shows you how many Lives you have left. When you lose them all, it's Game Over. No continues. L - Tells you what Level you're currently in, as well as the number next to it to show you what Sub-Level you're in in that Level at the moment. Gem - Shows you how many Gems you've collected. Um...worthless...unless you like Points... Key - Shows you how many Keys you have for opening Treasure Chests. If you die, you lose your Keys, so be careful. Points - Shows you what your current score is. Once you die completely or complete the game, you go to a Top Score page and you can enter your intials in if you made the Top Score page. Well, there you have it. A small list of information, but at least you now know as much as possible, right? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - B. Moving Around . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ MOAR4.2 ]- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Movement in Wizards & Warriors: Chapter X: The Fortress Of Fear is rather difficult. I'm guessing since you're a Knight in heavy gear it's hard to move around in the first place, but boy, that armor provides, like, 0 protection. Besides that, you basically play the game out like a normal side scroller, while collecting power ups along the way and fighting Enemies. Using a Sword, your only Weapon, you must hack and slash through an entire castle before you can win. Though, that's easier said than done. Jumping around and slashing is hard, you can't jump and attack while in the air and your Sword has rather good range, but Enemies are rather fast and can hurt you for INSANE damage, leaving you second guessing if this whole trip is worth it or not. Other than that, movement is ok, just it's the jumping and normal combat, not to mention fighting the Bosses that'll really hurt your chances of beating this game. Not much else to say other than that, just take it easy, get use to fighting and if you can beat this game, you're DAMN good. Try to have fun with it, even though, that won't be easy to do, just don't give up right away. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - C. Tips & Tricks . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ TITR4.3 ]- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Take it slow. I mean, SLOW. Charging ahead could kill you and I mean that. You have NO idea what's coming up next and you want to be prepared and taking it 1 Enemy and 1 trap at a time will make this game go slower, but your chances of winning will sky rocket. - Keys are very valuable in this game, as they open up Treasure Chests. Be SURE to always grab them if you can. - Try jumping over high walls, Super Mario Bros. 1 style, as in the Warp Worlds, when you can, as they sometimes lead to hidden areas with a ton of rewards for you. - Take note that the Knight can hurt himself from long falls and jumps, so if you jump off a platform or something while high up and land, he'll hurt himself. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= = V. The Walkthrough . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Beginning . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ BEGINI5.1 ]- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As far as I can tell, there's no real story, other than you're some Knight trying to save a Princess or something from the evil Malkil, a Wizard or something, who lives in a castle...of fear. Anyway, that's the story... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - B. Level 1 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ LEVE15.2 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 1-0 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start the Level, head east and jump onto the platform, then jump onto the platform to the west and run and jump to the west, as there's a platform over here. (Note: You MAY encounter a Bat in doing so, when you head east. Fight or avoid it if you do.) Over here is a moving cloud, which, jump onto it and then jump over to the other platform and you'll find a Key and a Knight Doll. Grab them, then make your way back to the start. Next, continue east now and when you reach the next platform, duck and move on and you'll bypass a charging Bat and see a Treasure Chest. If you want, head up to it to open it if you have a Key to get some Magical Gems, but I suggest you just jump over this, as it's worthless. When you do, you'll find a Gem, so grab it I guess, then move on to find a Key. Once you jump over and grab it, watch out for a arrow and jump over it, then take out or avoid the Fish nearby. Next, continue east and drop below if you wish to get a Gem, otherwise, duck at the top platform, as there's another charging Bat nearby. After this, jump over to the next area, dodging a Fish and don't grab the Cup Of Life yet, as a arrow is coming, so jump over it, then grab it and then jump onto the cloud, kill or avoid the Fish and jump onto the next cloud. Now, if you can, jump below to open the Treasure Chest here to get a Knight Doll, other wise jump to the next platform, avoid a oncoming arrow, then proceed on, kill the Fish nearby and jump onto the cloud, jump onto the next cloud, kill the Fish here and then jump onto the platform, grab the Meat, then watch out for a arrow above you as you enter the castle. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 1-1 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start, immediately duck and move forward, letting a Bat fly by, then take care of the Snake and Bat ahead of you. Then, jump across the pit and watch out for the cannon ball coming at you, then you'll have to do a rather difficult jump onto a platform and once you make it, there's a Bat nearby, so dodge it and get onto the next platform and immediately duck to avoid a cannon ball. Next, take out another Snake and jump to the next platform, but try and jump over a Bat that's charging at you when you land, then kill another Snake and as you jump to the next platform, duck to avoid another cannon ball. Now, jump over, but make it a short jump, as a cannon ball will by above you and then try and avoid another charging Bat, as you'll also find a Bat moving up and down nearby. Kill it, then move on and duck to avoid another cannon ball, then move on and watch out for another charging Bat. After this, you'll find a Treasure Chest, which the Potion Of Healing inside, so if you're REALLY hurting, open it, other wise, move on and take the lower path first, but there's 3 Bats here that are charging. To kill them easily, rapidily tap the B Button and move forward. You'll move slow, but you'll attack fast and the Bats won't be able to touch you as they die. At the end is a Key, so take it and backtrack now and take the top path, but duck to avoid a Bat and if you wish, open this Treasure Chest to get a Shield Of Protection, which halves the damage you take...for a while. Anyway, when you're ready, exit through the bottom door to enter a bonus room and in here, collect the 3 Gems, Meat and Knight Doll, then exit the room and in this part, just head up and exit to the left. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 1-2 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start, if you have a Key still, rush forward and grab the Treasure Chest, as it holds the Spell Of Invincibility, so just dead on RUSH past everything here and ignore the rest of what I say, up until you reach the Meat. Now, at the start, move forward towards the Treasure Chest and stop, as a Minotaur is nearby, so kill him, then wait for another Minotaur to come and kill him, then move on. (Note: There may or may not be a second Minotaur, so be glad if you don't see one.) Immediately duck to avoid a Bat, then when you see the Minotaur, back off towards the Treasure Chest, then assault him from there. Next, take out a Minotaur near the Meat, grab it, then take out 2 more Minotaurs, followed by 2 more Minotaurs, and some more charging Bats, which you'll have to duck. After all this, you'll reach a gap in the bridge, with a Bat nearby flying up and down. Kill it, then do a jump and pray you jump over a charging Bat when you do, as you land and find some Meat. Grab it, then proceed slowly and take down 3 Minotaurs, then 2 Bats, another Bat and Minotaur and another Bat, then just exit this hell. In this room, you'll find 3 Gems, then get onto the moving platform and try and jump over the wall to find 2 Gems, Meat and a Treasure Chest with Magical Gems inside, so ignore it. Though, try and jump over the wall to the west here to find a Gem, a Knight Doll and a Key. Then, make your way back and exit to the top path --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 1-3 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boss time. For a strategy on how to beat this Boss, head to the Boss Guide now, which is Section VI. When you're done, head onto Level 2. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - C. Level 2 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ LEVE25.3 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 2-0 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start this Level, try to avoid two fireballs that come at you, then jump to the top platform, ignoring the Gem at the bottom part and avoid the fireball coming at you, then jump onto the moving platform, avoiding yet another fireball above you, then try and move as close as possible on this moving platform to kill the Spider nearby. Next, jump onto the platform nearby, but watch out, as a fireball comes by FAST here. Make your way down, avoiding 2 more fireballs, then go for the Gem if you wish, just duck and move to get it, but stab as you go, so you kill a Bat that flies near you. Then, head up and kill the Spider and grab the Meat, then watch out for a charging Bat and move on, jump up to the next platform if you want a Gem, but then make your way down by ducking and again watch out for a Bat here. Make that 2 Bats and then a Bat that goes up and down, with a Spider also nearby. Next, jump up to the next platform, grab the Meat, then watch out for acid drops and carefully make your way over and grab the Key you see, then head up and open the Treasure Chest at the top to get the Boots Of Jumping, which makes you jump higher and farther. Then, continue on, avoiding more acid drops and a charging Bat, which, after the first acid drop, just duck and wait for it to pass by, then if you have another Key, open the Treasure Chest nearby to get a Potion Of Healing. Continue on and take out another charging Bat soon after this, then grab the Cup Of Life if you need to, then kill the 2 Spiders and watch out for a fireball after this. Now, here comes the tough part. You will NEED the Boots Of Jumping, so MAKE SURE you have them, otherwise this jump is impossible. Time your jump here just as the platform is rising to the top and you should make it. Then, grab the 2 Keys nearby, then use one to open the door. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 2-1 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start the Level, do a long jump immediately, so you dodge 3 fireballs, then grab the Gem nearby if you wish, then continue on and watch out for the torch that spews fire out and make your way onward, grab the Gem below, then open the Treasure Chest nearby if you can to get a Knight Doll. Then, make your way up and kill the Skeleton, then drop down and get the Cup Of Life and then take the top path, as the bottom path is like a death trap. Avoid a Bat nearby, then kill or avoid another Bat and if you want, drop down at the end now and grab the Knight Doll and kill the 2 Skulls, then make your way back slowly, grab the Key, kill the Skeleton and backtrack to where you were. Now, grab the Cup Of Life, while you avoid a fireball, then jump over the acid drop to get onto a falling platform, move quickly and on the last platform, jump up and over the wall, so you enter a bonus area. In here, grab the 3 Gems, Meat and Knight Doll, then exit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 2-2 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start, move on and watch out for a Bat and Skeleton, then another Bat, then grab the Key above you if you can, then if you need to, open the Treasure Chest nearby to get the Boots Of Jumping, then move on, until you see a acid drop and a platform, then go and jump onto it and make your way across and when you do, stop, as there's 2 Skeletons nearby. Kill them, then I suggest jumping over the wall, so you avoid a fireball and Skeleton, but don't go down, as the Key isn't worth it and move on and kill the Skull, then if you need to, open the Treasure Chest to get the Boots Of Jumping, then go up to the platform and do a long jump over the Skull and land, then duck and start stabbing madly, as a Skull will charge at you in a moment as you continue on. Now, if you have a Key and are daring, you can take the top path, killing or avoiding the 3 Skulls to reach the door to go to a bonus room, but there's a weird glitch, where if you just go up to the wall to the west where the 1 Skull is and jump up, you'll reach it anyway. Odd, but it works. Anyway, in the bonus room, grab the 2 Gems and Meat, ignoring the Treasure Chest above, as it holds Magical Gems, then move on and grab the Key and then exit this place. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 2-3 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start this Level, duck and stab, as a Bat comes by, then move on and jump over a fireball and Bat, then if you can, jump up to the top platform to avoid another Bat and 2 fireballs, then move on and pass by a torch, then land and kill a Snake, as the jump to get the Knight Doll nearby is near impossible, then dodge a fireball and kill a Bat nearby, then jump over and dodge a fireball and unfortunately, unless you CAN make the jump up above to enter the Bonus room, which I'm sure holds like 3 Gems, Meat and a Knight Doll or 2 Gems, Meat, a Key and a Treasure Chest with Magical Gems inside, just enter the door nearby. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 2-4 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start this Level, duck and move forward stabbing to take out a Skull that will charge you in a minute, then continue on and kill the 3 Skulls nearby. Continue on and when you fall down, duck immediately to avoid another charging Skull, then try and stab and kill one of the Skulls nearby on the ledge you're on, then jump over and kill the final one. Now comes the tough part. You have to time your jump right to land inside the Skull's Mouth here. Try jumping just as his mouth closes and you should make it. Rather hard and tedious jump, but try your best. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - D. Level 3 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ LEVE35.4 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 3-0 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start the Level, head to the west and wait until you see a moving platform past the statue of the Dragon. Then jump over and follow the path to find a Key and Knight Doll. Take them, then head back to the start and move on, but duck as two axes fly by, then take out the Minotaur. Continue on and take out another Minotaur and you'll then come to some Meat, so take it. After this, watch out for 4 axes, then jump onto the paltform and watch out for 2 more axes as you jump to the next platform and duck underneath the 2 stationary axes and watch out for another axe that comes at you during this, then take out a Minotaur nearby and watch out, as a the statue of the Dragon nearby spits fireballs out. After this, just go to the stairs and push the Up Button. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 3-1 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start the Level, head east, but duck, as there's an axe flying by. After this, jump onto the platform and then jump over the fireballs and try to avoid the Bat nearby as best as possible, land and take out the next Bat on the platform over, then open the Treasure Chest if you can, as you will NEED the Boots Of Jumping inside. If you don't have a Key, there's one nearby, so don't worry. Head east, jumping on the platforms and dodging the fireballs and kill the Bat, grab the Key, go get the Boots Of Jumping now or continue on and do a long jump now over the Bat, land and avoid another Bat, then go down to the area below and avoid 2 more Bats, then avoid more fireballs, then enter the door and you're done. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 3-2 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start the Level, head east and dodge a axe coming at you, followed by a Bat. Then, avoid some fireballs, land and kill a Minotaur, avoid the statue of the Dragon spitting fireballs and head across the falling platforms and kill the 2 Minotaurs on the otherside. If you want to exit the Level now, enter this door, but you continue on a bit, there's a bonus room. Just dodge 3 stationary axes and you're there, so you're choice. In the bonus room, there's 3 Gems, Meat and a Knight Doll. Once you get this stuff, exit through the door. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 3-3 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boss time. Level 4 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ LEVE45.5 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 4-0 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start this rather cramped Level, dodge a Bat as you move, then duck as a Bat flies over you. Next, duck again as another Bat flies by, then get ready to fight 3 Bats that charge at you, then a Bat flying up and down, then dodge a arrow that flies at you. Then, dodge another arrow and kill a Minotaur nearby, then duck to let another arrow fly by and then kill 2 Bats as you jump over another arrow and dodge another Bat. Then, duck as 2 arrows fly by, kill another Bat, then another Minotaur, then grab the Cup Of Life and kill the Bat. Next, grab the 3 Gems, then kill the Minotaur nearby, then dodge or kill the Bats next, followed by another Minotaur, followed by 4 more Bats. After this, enter the door and in this room, use the platform to climb up and jump over the wall to find 2 Treasure Chests and a Cup Of Life. I don't know what's in the Treasure Chests, as I didn't have Keys here, but I assume it's either Magical Gems, Potion Of Healing, Boots Of Jumping or a Knight Doll. Anyway, after this, backtrack and exit through the door at the top left. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 4-1 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start the Level, take out the Hawk nearby, then take out the next Hawk, then dodge an arrow coming your way. Next, grab the Gem and kill another Hawk, then dodge 2 more arrows and if you're feeling lucky, try to get the Key that the Minotaur is guarding. Otherwise, continue on and dodge another arrow and kill another Hawk, then another Hawk. Continue on and avoid the Minotaur below with the Gem and dodge another arrow, then kill another Hawk and jump across and duck, letting the next Hawk fly by you. Next, move on and dodge another arrow, then avoid the Treasure Chest, as it holds Magical Gems, then move on and open the next Treasure Chest, which holds a Potion Of Healing inside. Then, continue on and dodge a arrow and kill a Hawk, then jump and duck, letting another Hawk pass you by, then jump as another Hawk flies in, go down and kill another Hawk. Next, dodge two arrows, another Hawk and then grab a Key, then continue on and jump onto the moving cloud, just watch out for a Hawk, though, then jump and land and duck to avoid another Hawk, then avoid 2 Bats and 4 Arrows. Then, dodge another Hawk and make a rather hard jump to the next platform and duck, so you avoid another Hawk, continue on and duck to avoid more arrows, as you reach the end and see a Archer in the window, then enter the door. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 4-2 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boss time. Again, head to Section VI. Boss Guide for more information and a strategy on the Boss here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - F. Level 5 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ LEVE55.6 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Level 5-0 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you start this Level, grab the 3 Gems, then ride the moving platform up and jump over the wall and collect the 2 Gems, Meat and Treasure Chest I guess if you want it, which holds Magical Gems, then head back and exit through the door to the top right. In this area, if you want to bypass ALOT of this Level, jump over onto the moving platform after you duck a fireball and jump over to the door that was just above you and you'll appear in a area with 2 Gems. Now, if you want to continue on without doing this and watch out for the Spider nearby. Now, the top path and the bottom path lead to the next area, but the door nearby leads to the area past the one that the door at the top and bottom lead to, which is also the area where you'll end up at if you took the path at the start which lead to getting the 2 Gems. (Also, on the bottom path, watch out for the Skeleton.) Either way, if you take the top or bottom path, in this area, watch out for a fireball and a acid drop, if you took the top path, then head over and grab the Meat if you want, avoiding a Bat IF you're on the top part, then take the top part and kill 3 Bats, then kill a Spider, drop down and grab the Key and dodge a fireball, then enter the door nearby. You'll now be where those 2 Gems are now, so get them, then exit to the east. Now, in this area, move forward and dodge an arrow, then kill a Minotaur, then duck as another arrow comes by and kill another Minotaur, then duck under a axe and then enter the door. In this area, move forward slowly and stab away to kill a Skull that comes at you, then duck to avoid another Skull, then kill another Skull nearby. Next, continue on to kill 5 more Skulls, mainly by ducking and attacking, then move forward and stab, killing another Skull, then duck and stab, moving forward to kill another one. Next, avoid or kill another Skull that flies at you, then head to the west and exit. In this area, this next part is a giant maze, so I will get you through it as fast as possible, as the final Boss is coming up and you need all the Health and Lives you can get. Now, as you start, jump to avoid a arrow and then duck under a axe, followed by dodging another arrow, then kill 2 Minotaurs nearby, then enter the door you see. In this area, head east and dodge a Bat, then fall to the area below to the west and fall down the pit to the west. You'll end up in a bonus room, which has 3 Gems, Meat and a Knight Doll. After this, exit to the east. In this area, head east and start stabbing madly to kill a Skull that'll fly at you in a second, then kill the 3 Skulls nearby and open the Treasure Chest if you can, as it holds a Shield Of Protection. Then, continue on and kill or avoid 2 more Skulls, then watch out for 2 Skulls in a pit nearby, then jump to the next area and avoid/kill 2 more Skulls, then get the Cup Of Life if you want, but take the top path and exit when you're done, avoiding/killing 3 Skulls up here and 2 Skulls on the bottom. In the next area, take out the 4-5 Skulls here, then enter the door to the far east and you'll appear in a new area now. Get ready, as you're about to face Malkil. If you need it, there's a Treasure Chest nearby with another Shield Of Protection in it. Otherwise, go across the pillars and once you do, you'll find Malkil. Head to Section VI. [ GIABA6.1 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information: A giant Bat that's not only powerful, but fast and hard to hit. Points Gained For Defeating: 500. Strategy: Ok, like all Bosses in the game that you'll soon find out, they are ALL hard. ALL OF THEM. They can ALL kill you with ease, TRUST ME. The BEST strategy, as I have found, is that there's 4 platforms to stand on. You want to stand on the bottom right one, the one pointing to about 4-5 O'Clock. The Giant Bat has a very simple pattern you follow and as long as you stand here, he will NOT hurt you, UNTIL he goes below you and up and around and during this time, jump straight up to avoid this when he goes under you, a bit before, though and you'll be fine. Other than that, when he goes above you, hold the Up Button and smash the B Button to slash with your Sword to hit him and repeat this until he falls. Once he does, exit through the door. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - B. Giant Skull . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ GIASK6.2 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information: A giant Skull that stomps the ground to hurt you and is VERY powerful. Points Gained For Defeating: 500. Strategy: Rather simple, actually. As you start out, move and fall down to the lower area to find the Boss and stay on the very end of the ledge near the pit to the west and slash wildly there. When he's right next to you, time your jump right and jump over the pit then come and land back and you should dodge his attack. Just repeat this until he dies and you'll win. Then just enter the Skull Head and you're done. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - C. Giant Hawk . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ GIAHA6.3 ]- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information: A giant Hawk that swoops down to attack. Points Gained For Defeating: 500. Strategy: Ok, again, rather simple. Basically, go to the bottom of the stairs and hug the very bottom up against the stairs and duck, but make sure the Giant Hawk sees you first. When it swoops down twice and then runs off, stand up and move a BIT forward and stab alot, as the Giant Hawk WILL come close, but not enough to hit you. When it goes away, duck back into your little corner and repeat this process and you'll win. After this, enter the door to the west and you're done. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - D. Malkil . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [ MALK6.4 ] - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information: The evil Wizard who's holding the Princess hostage and the final Boss of the game. Points Gained For Defeating: 500. Strategy: I can't figure out a good way to beat this guy. All he does is move around incredibly fast and fire lightning out of his hands. I really suggest at least 4+ Lives for this guy, otherwise, you are going to find it rather hard. All I can suggest is to stand on a pillar, watch his movements, stab him as fast as possible while ducking and try to dodge him. I did it with 3 Lives, but still, he's not easy and I couldn't find a good enough way to take him down other than ducking and stabbing whenever he appeared and he kept sucking my Health away.
