Kenshiro Section 7: Acknowledgments/Credits ================= GAME INTRODUCTION ================= 199X: In the 1990s, the world was devastated by nuclear war. It seemed as if life on earth had died out. Those that were left had to deal with the aftermath. The seas were dried up. The land was scorched. The human race seemed to be gone. But, not all humans were dead. Survival in these post apocalyptic times usually means that only the strong survives...until now. Eleven men will battle it out to become the next ruler of the known universe. ============== BASIC CONTROLS ============== Here are the basic controls of the fighter that you will be controlling and a few other tidbits. They are as follows: Directional Pad: Moves your selected fighter forward and backwards. Also it allows you to jump towards/away from your opponents as well as to maintain a crouching position. B Button : Pushing this button will allow you to execute lower body attacks such as kicks. (Note: Some fighters may not possess this form of attack in their arsenals.) A Button : Pushing this button will allow you to execute upper body attacks such as punches. Holding in this button will also charge your special attack meter if your fighter possesses one. Start Button : If you need to do something more important than playing this game for a few moments then pressing this button will pause the game. Select and A : During the fighter selection process, this will allow you to see the stats of the fighters that you have built up. For example, the level that a fighter is currently at and how much experience the selected fighter has acquired will be displayed. ========================== EXPERIENCE/LEVELING UP ========================== Each fighter in this game starts out as a Level 1 fighter and has not yet gained any experience in fighting. Also, each fighter has a beginning level of how much power each attack they possess contains when executed. The higher the number, the more damage a fighter's attack can deal out when it successfully connects. Finally, each fighter also starts off with a certain level of defense. The higher the number, the more damage a fighter can absorb before succumbing to a knock out. After each successful battle, your fighter will be given a certain number of experience points that are added to your fighter. The better you handle yourself in battle, the more experience points you will gain. If you are so fortunate to gain enough experience points, your fighter will then progress to a higher level. The three stats that will increase during each level up are Attack A, Attack B, and Defense. Obviously, the higher these numbers are, the stronger your fighter will be. ========================= FIGHTERS' BIOS/MOVES LIST ========================= Here is a chart of the starting stats of each fighter then has entered into the tournament. Through hard training by fighting various challengers, these stats can always be raised through experience. They are Single Player, Versus Mode, and Team Battle. For the latter two to be played, you will need two Game Boy systems, two Fist of the Northstar game cartridges, and a Game Boy link cable. This guide mostly covers the Single Player Mode. Below each of the three game modes are described. ++ SINGLE PLAYER ++ This is the mode where you will be spending most of your time. In this mode, you can choose a character who you wish to be and start building them up by battling through the 10 brawls. For each character that you defeat, you will gain a certain number of experience points. When you gain enough experience, you will earn yourself a new level and the attributes of Attack A, Attack B, and Defense will rise as well. If you are defeated in a battle, you will be given the option of Continue and Password. If you chose to continue, you will be given the chance to have a rematch against the opponent who just defeated you. If you choose the Password command, you will be given a password that will let you continue your progress. (Note: The Password will be useful to you if you have recently gained a level. Otherwise keep battling until you gain a level if you want to switch characters at this time.) The only other option is to turn the game off if you wish to choose another character. Then you will be able to enter the password to save the character who you've just built up as well at the new one who you have just chosen. In closing, you can build up a character as high as the stars if you wanted to and also the game gets a lot easier as you go through the game with a built up character. ++ VERSUS MODE ++ In this mode, you and a buddy will be able to link up two Game Boy systems and will be able to battle it out with your built up characters. (Note: Each person must have a game cartridge in order to play.) In this mode, each player chooses a character and then the battle begins with a one on one battle. The first player who depletes his/her opponent's life meter is declared the winner and you will be given the option to rematch or choose another character. This is a great mode to test out your built up characters against human opponents as well as to establish bragging rights. ++ TEAM BATTLE ++ In this mode, you and a buddy will be able to link up your Game Boy systems and will be able to battle it out with your built up characters as well. (Note: Each person must have a game cartridge in order to play.) In this mode, each player gets to choose five characters that will do battle. The battle begins as a one on one match like in versus mode but when one character is defeated, the next character on the five man team will jump in and so on. The winner is declared when all five members on a team have been successfully defeated. This mode is definitely a tour de force and strategy is more important when choosing your five team members. ======================================================== FIGHTER'S STRATEGY/ STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES WALKTHROUGH ======================================================== In this section, I will give you a breakdown on how to defeat each opponent that you will face along your fighting career. Here I will give you a way to ensure that you win the battle before you at least 90 % of the time. Remember, make sure that you have gone up at least 1 level and snagged the password for it before turning the game off. Good luck. +++ VS. HEART +++ Heart is a very powerful adversary who will bash any opponent into submission with his large belly or with his bare hands. However because of his large size, he is grounded and cannot get out of the way of projectile attacks. When going against Heart, the logical way to defeat him would be to charge up your projectile attack and release it so that Heart will get crushed by it when he tries to use his Belly Bash against you. However, if he connects with his bash attack, he will follow up with a continuous stream of open palm attacks. If Heart, gets in too close, use a hopping kick/punch towards him to strike his head and then follow up with a sweeping kick/ crouching punch to take out his knees. If you are using Uygur, keep using your Shoulder Bash attack and when you connect, follow up with a fury of Alternating Whip Attacks to knock back Heart for some breathing room. Just remember, the bigger they are, the harder they will fall and with enough offensive firepower, Heart will do just that. +++ VS. SHIN +++ Shin is also a very good fighter who is able to pummel opponents with his lethal hands. However, he has concentrated so much on his punch attacks that he has not developed any offense with his feet. When going against Shin, keep in mind that if you have a character that has kicking attacks, you have an easy battle ahead of you. All that you will have to do in this battle is hop kick into Shin and then follow up with a sweep kick to knock him out of the way. Jump back and then repeat the same process. If you are using a character that does not have use of the legs for offense, then simply charge up your projectile attacks and then release it at the right time to ensure victory. If you are using Heart or Uygur, keep using your Shoulder Bash/Belly Bash attack and when you connect, follow up with a fury of Alternating Whip/Continuous Palm Fist attacks to back Shin up into a corner. Just remember to stay in close to ensure victory. Shin may be the king of Bloody Cross, but he will fall just like other great kings before him. +++ VS. JAGI +++ Jagi is what you would call a mimic fighter in that all of his moves are performed just like his brother Kenshiro. However his technique is flawed in that he never learned to mimic the kicking style of Kenshiro. Still, he is able to charge up his projectile attack a little faster than most others. When going against Jagi, keep in mind that if you have a character that has kicking attacks, you have an easy battle ahead of you per se. All that you will have to do in this battle is hop kick into Jagi, just like Shin, and then follow up with a sweep kick to knock him out of the way. Jump back and then repeat the same process. If you are using a character that does not have use of the legs for offense, then, simply charge up your projectile attacks and then release it at the right time to ensure victory. If you are using Heart or Uygur, keep using your Shoulder Bash/Belly Bash attack and when you connect, follow up with a fury of Alternating Whip/Continuous Palm Fist attacks to back Shin up into a corner. Just remember to stay in close to ensure victory. "I've always said that Jagi had a glass jaw." - Kenshiro +++ VS. UYGUR +++ Uygur is a big and powerful adversary that is even more powerful than Heart. He is the body guard of King Raoh and his vengeance is like that of the Vikings of old. If he gets in close, he will not hesitate to crack those whips that protrude from is head. However, his weakness is that he is grounded just like Heart is because of his tank like size. Also, he will not be able to get out of the way of projectile attacks. When going against Uygur, the logical way to defeat him would be to charge up your projectile attack and release it so that Uygur will get crushed by it when he tries to use his Shoulder Bash against you. However, if he connects with his bash attack, he will follow up with a fury of Alternating Whip Attacks. If Uygur, gets in too close, use a hopping kick/punch towards him to strike his head and then follow up with a sweeping kick/ crouching punch to take out his knees. If you are using Heart, keep using your Belly Bash Attack and when you connect, follow up with a fury of continuous palm attacks to knock back Uygur for some breathing room. Keep in mind that Uygur has a longer range of attack because of his whips. With enough luck and skill, you will be able to take out the beast of primal aggression. +++ VS. SOUTHER +++ Souther is a deadly opponent who will not hesitate to use his projectile attacks against you. His projectile attacks will protrude into a spread formation against you so you will have to deal with him fast or the fight will end just as quickly as it has started. His only weakness is that he is a weak fighter in close combat for he does not have any kicking attacks to use against you. When going against Souther, if you have a fighter who is able to use kicking attacks, stay on Souther by hop kicking into him and by trying to score the extra hit by performing a sweep kick attack. Wherever he goes, you follow him. This will continue to interrupt his charge for his projectile attacks. Also, if you want, you can use a hopping punch attack to get in close and then tag him with a crouching punch attack. Most likely the hopping punch attack will not connect but the crouching punch will. If you can back him into a corner where he cannot get out, this battle will be over quicker than you could have hoped for. Just keep using that foot sweep/crouching punch of yours and he will continue to hop jump straight up. You could try to use projectile attacks but you better be a good screen size away so that you will be able to hop jump through the tri-projectile attack. If you are using Uygur or Heart, all you have to do is to continuously use that Belly Bash/ Shoulder Attack against him in the direction to where he is standing. Uygur has a slight advantage because of his Alternating Whip attacks. With enough luck, you will send Souther back to where he came from. +++ VS. RAOH +++ Raoh is Kenshiro's brother who is a lot more powerful than Kenshiro. He is also taller than anyone you have faced thus far. He believes that he should have been chosen as Fist of the Northstar over Ken but power without perception is useless when he perceives nothing. However, getting hit by his powerful attacks hurts, so you will have to defeat him with quick strikes and a lot of sticking and moving. Because Roah is an all around powerhouse, he does not have many weaknesses. His attack range is excellent as well. You could try to get in a hop kick/punch in close and then follow up with a crouching kick/punch but most of the time he will punch you out of the air and you will only be able to get one shot in while he has tagged you twice. The best way to defeat this rival is to charge up your projectile attack and then release it when his projectile attack meter is just about full. After you release it, be prepared to jump over his and get ready to charge again. If you do not time your jump right, you will get tagged twice by the tri-projectile for your mistake. If you are using Uygur or Heart, you will have to stay on top of Raoh by continuously using the Belly Bash/ Shoulder Attack towards wherever Roah decides to land after his jump. With enough patience and persistence, this king of a powerhouse will be dethroned yet again. +++ VS. FALCO +++ Falco is a well-rounded fighter just like Kenshiro. He is almost as powerful as Raoh but he is not as tall and he is a little bit quicker. His only weakness is that he relies too heavily on his projectile attacks to win battles. When fighting Falco, you will be able to use the same techniques that you have used before on most of the fighters thus far. In case you have forgotten, here it is. All that you will have to do in this battle is hop kick into Falco and then follow up with a sweep kick to knock him out of the way. Jump back and then repeat the same process. If you are using a character that does not have use of the legs for offense, then, simply charge up your projectile attacks and then release it at the right time to ensure victory. If you are using Heart or Uygur, keep using your Shoulder Bash/Belly Bash attack and when you connect, follow up with a fury of Alternating Whip/Continuous Palm Fist attacks to back Falco up into a corner. Just remember to stay in close to ensure victory. Falco may be fast, but he will not be fast enough to triumph if you follow this technique. +++ VS. HAN +++ Not much about Han is known at this time. But compared to Falco this fight should be a breeze. His strength is that he is able to charge up his projectile meter pretty fast when compared with other fighters in this tournament. However, he is considered to be a long range fighter so if an opponent were to get in close and mix it up, Han will not have an answer for the offensive onslaught. When you are fighting against Han, make sure to stay all over him with an aggressive offensive onslaught. Do not let up and give him the chance to fight back. All that you will have to do in this battle is hop kick into Han and then follow up with a sweep kick to knock him out of the way. If he tries to jump back then jump in his direction and repeat the same process. If you are using a character that does not have use of the legs for offense, then, simply charge up your projectile attacks and then release it at the right time to ensure victory. If you are using Heart or Uygur, keep using your Shoulder Bash/Belly Bash attack and when you connect, follow up with a fury of Alternating Whip/ Continuous Palm Fist attacks to back Han up into a corner. So wherever he moves or jumps, make sure that you crash into him to do mega damage. Han will not even know what hit him and he will be another notch in your belt on the road to the top. +++ VS. HYOU +++ Not much about Hyou is known at this time. However, he is a very powerful adversary indeed. His stage actually takes place in the mountains which is actually his only weakness to exploit. Otherwise, you are in for a real tough battle here. When you are engaging in battle against Hyou, you will have to use a different strategy than the previous battles you have fought. If you are savvy enough, this method will work for you. Try charging up a projectile attack and the releasing it at Hyou and then hop kicking/punching towards him. Two things will happen. Either the projectile or the kick/punch will connect or he will jump backwards. If you get him to jump back far enough, he will land and be on top of a rock in the background. Here if he tries to move forward to attack you, you will be able to land a standing kick or punch that will knock him back. If that doesn't work, wear him down with projectile attacks. Here's how. Be just about a screen's length away and charge up your projectile attack and then release it when his projectile attack meter is just about full. After you release it, be prepared to jump over his and get ready to charge again. If you are using Uygur or Heart, be prepared to bash your way towards him and get him in a position so that he is on top of that rock that is in the background and then back up just a little. When he tries to get off the rock by walking towards you, use that bash technique to knock him back and he will still be on the rock. Repeat this process until this tough enemy goes down for the final time. +++ VS. KAOIH +++ Kaoih is the strongest opponent in the known world. Through the use of his technique called the "Fist of Evil Ways" he is able to conquer anybody and pretty much can control whatever he wants. There are no known weaknesses to this fighter. All that have opposed him have died by his hands. Since Kaoih is strong in every aspect of every fighting style, he will have an answer for every offensive technique or move that you throw at him. You may be able to kick or punch him once or twice but he will drill you twice as many times as you have hit him. (This does not apply to Heart or Uygur) The only way to defeat Kaoih (at least the first time around) is to use the projectile technique to wear him down to defeat. In case you do not remember, here it is again. The only way to defeat this fiend is to charge up your projectile attack and then release it when his projectile attack meter is just about full. After you release it, be prepared to jump over his and get ready to charge again. If you do not time your jump right, you will get tagged twice by his tri-projectile for your mistake. If you are using Uygur or Heart, use this technique to ensure victory. Use your dash attack towards Kaoih in order to get him to jump through the air than nail him when he lands. Repeat until you get him stuck in the corner where the screen can not go no more. Than simply use the dash attack and then back up two steps and then use the dash attack again. Keep pummeling him like this until he cannot stand no more. It may take patience and a little luck but you will be able to defeat this legendary enemy of the world. +++ VS. KENSHIRO +++ Kenshiro is the chosen Fist of the Northstar and his skills are unmatched by anyone. His technique works from the inside out when certain points on the body are touched. However for this game he is a pretty balanced character who can be defeated in a number of ways surprisingly. However, he can and will take a lot of abuse before going down. When fighting Kenshiro, keep in mind that he can usually hit you from any point of attack. However, the tried and true technique of hop kicking/punching and then sweep kicking/crouch punching will work as well. All that you will have to do in this battle is hop kick into Kenshiro, much like Jagi, and then follow up with a sweep kick to knock him out of the way. Jump towards where he tries to jump and then repeat the same process. If you are using a character that does not have use of the legs for offense, then, simply charge up your projectile attacks and then release it at the right time to ensure victory. If you are using Heart or Uygur, keep using your Shoulder Bash/Belly Bash attack and when you connect, follow up with a fury of Alternating Whip/Continuous Palm Fist attacks to try to back Kenshiro up into a corner. Just remember to stay in close to ensure victory. With enough fatal blows, this man will be knocked down for the count but not out forever... ======================== ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS/CREDITS ======================== Okay, here goes. I would first like to give credit to Kenshiro_Souke for having some of the descriptions of the Fist of the Northstar characters that I was missing so that this guide could be made possible. Also, I would like to thank Manga for bringing out the Fist of the Northstar series to the United States. At least many more people now know about this underrated series.
