Yep, that's right the handheld version of the PlayStation game is available. Driver is a great game even if it isn't a true conversion. The gameplay has remained fun and fast. The story is a bit weak though. You play Tanner, a maverick cop who hands in his badge to go undercover to take on the kingpin of crime, Casteldi. The plot is quite loose. The reason behind Tanner's interest in capturing Casteldi is unclear and why he would hand in his police badge is beyond me. However the game is quite hard. Which is where this FAQ comes in. I love Driver so I decided to lend my hand to anyone who is stuck with the game. I've covered the game in every area with sufficient detail so read on and find out how to beat Driver. ===================================================================== Updates: ===================================================================== 12/05/01: First and Final update. Everything is here so I don't need to update again. Ever. This time I know what the word final means ;) Now lets see, I need to pad this bit out a bit... I know, screw Flanders, screw Flanders, screw Flanders. Hehehe, that Simpsons episode was funny. ===================================================================== Contents: ===================================================================== 1: Controls 2: Game Overview 3: Drivethrough 4: Driving Games 5: Cheats ===================================================================== 1: Controls ===================================================================== The controls are fairly simple. Heck, even a monkey could master them. But for those that need refreshing I'll list them. I don't know why seeing as it's common knowledge but I always do so :p Control Pad -~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Move Brake ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Down on Control Pad Accelerate ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ A Button Handbrake ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~- Down on Control Pad while moving As far as I can see the B Button does nothing which seems a little strange. Oh and don't use the brake :) It is little use in this game as there isn't much danger in using the accelerator all the time. Just let go when you want to slow down. ===================================================================== 2: Game Overview ===================================================================== This is the game overview section. Basically I just squashed a load of information into one section. I'll tell you about the cops, the little arrow thing, damage, etc. Damage ------ Damage is caused by bumping into things (duh...). Anything that is solid can cause you damage but it varies depending on how strong the object is. For example bumping into an oncoming car is pretty damaging but smashing into a bin or an umbrella outside a restaurant isn't very damaging. Just make sure you can control the car well and you'll have no problem. Stick to the roads, drive down the centre and go the right way and you'll not need to worry about bumping into things to often. Felony ------ What ya gonna do? What ya gonna do? When they come for you. The long arm of the law will reach you if you break the law. Just smash into a car or a building while they are watching and see them flock to you like a bird to bread. They can be avoided though, break when you see one coming at you and then drive round the back of the car. Or drive up the right side of the road so it isn't as easy for cops to get you. Timer ----- It is important to remember that you are racing against a timer and don't have all the time in the world. Just focus on the task in hand and look at my walkthrough, together we'll get through it. Okay I'll stop now before I start sounding like the Pokemon cartoon (I watched it once...). Location Arrow -------------- The location arrow is there to be used but with caution. It points you in the general direction of an objective but doesn't know what a solid wall is. Use it to navigate your way around the roads without looking at the map every two seconds. However the map should be used now and again to make sure you're not on the other side of the city to your objective. ===================================================================== 3: Drivethrough ===================================================================== This bit helps you get through the undercover mode. I haven't listed exactly when and where to go every time because the game doesn't require that in places. However I have written enough to help you through each level. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "The Bank Job" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This level is easy. Just call up the map and look for the flashing black dot. It is just below the downtown mark. Now plan out a simple route to that dot and follow it being careful not to get lost. Now go straight and round the corner. Then go left and over the highway that passes over the river. When you get to the end of this highway juts bring up the map and head for the flashing black dot. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Hide the Evidence" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Another easy level. You just need to turn left and follow the edge around. Eventually you will come to a road that goes over the river. Follow this road and if any cops are chasing you let them keep up with you all the way to the end. Why? Well if the cop is chasing you no more can be alerted to your presence. After you get of the road take the second left hand turn and keep on going until you reach the black flashing dot on the map. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "The Boat Chase" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Head onto the road and follow the right edge around. If you followed the edge you should come to a warehouse area which the cars use for turning. Go into the area and head to the right and through a gap by the side of the building that the cars turn through. Then go up and around the edge until you get to a pier with the red X. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Ram Raid Race" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= First of all make your way to the first flashing black dot. Now swerve into the café and head straight over the car park opposite. But make sure you have smashed the blue glass. Repeat this method of turning through the windows for each of the four remaining cafes but head in the direction the arrow points before checking your map. You should be headed in the general direction of the next café if you use this method. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Superfly Drive" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You have to be really careful in this mission. Try not to get any damage on the car as its strength and handling are a bit rubbish. Just follow the highway for the whole ride and you should scrape through that time limit with around a second to spare. Taking any other route would just leave you to open to damage. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Bait for a Trap" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Getting to Bal Harbour is pretty easy and should pose you no problem. Just use the map to guide you. However getting the grey car to follow you is a bit trickier. Ram him and then head slowly down towards the flashing black dot that you can see on the map. Always keep the grey car in sight and never get to far in front of it otherwise you will fail the mission. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Take Out Di Angelo" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This one is like the pursuit driving game only with a harder enemy. Just use the same tactics and try not to crash or lose sight of the car. Chase it from behind so it can't wriggle free and lose you and watch out for any clever tricks like turning round while you are just catching up with it. It may take you a few times to complete it as the enemy car is pretty speedy and intelligent. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Get Lucky to the Doc's" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= A easy introduction to night time New York. Just race over to the black flashing dot and then over to the other flashing dot that appears once you collect Lucky. It is simple really. However the roads of New York may take a bit of getting used to. Well I found them a bit complicated anyway... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Beverly Hills Get Away" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This one is one big race. You just need to get to the places that the game tells you to go to. It is fairly simple but watch out for the cops on your tell. And remember that at the first red X you may have completed the objective even if the cops are around you. Pay attention to the bottom of the screen and you'll see if you've done it or not. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Grand Central Station" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= I'm getting bored of these levels. But it is challenging and in a different city so I can't complain. Just race across the city and get to each red X before the time limit runs out. Pretty simple really, but as always watch out for the long arm of the law. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Trash Granger's Wheels" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You need to get to the other side of the city for this one. Smash the car that the black dot on the map points to then head back to your hotel. What more can I say? Other than as always, watch out for the cops and be careful. Careful driving is the key to happiness! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Stop Granger's Gang" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This mission is pretty difficult and may seem impossible at first but when you break it down all it is, is five pursuit driving games put into one mission. And that is just how you should treat it. Don't rush but do keep up with the cars and attack from behind. You should also be careful that you are ramming the right car as you can lose valuable time if you drive round ramming the wrong cars and getting caught up in them. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Chase One of Granger's Boys" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= First of all you need to get on the same road as the car. You can see where it is by referring to the map. Head for the road it is on and chase it. Use the breaks in this road to cut through to the other side when the car is driving back down the opposite side of the road to you. Once you have cut it off keep it in your sights and ram it until it stops. If it gets away resort to the pursuit tactic of chasing it from behind. It is a pretty speedy car but you can catch it. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Cross Town Record" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This one is simple if you use common sense. Just plan out the most direct route that you think you can use smoothly and quickly and use it. You'll be across the other side of the city before you know it. Just don't get the police involved or any damage done to your car as it won't help at all and you'll be lucky to beat the time limit if the whole police force are out to get you. ===================================================================== 4: Driving Games ===================================================================== Driver includes four driving games, all highly illegal activities of course... Still they're great fun if a little challenging at times. However fear not. I have taken the time to provide you with tips to these games. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Checkpoint =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The object of this game is to collect all the red flags scattered around the city. It isn't that hard if you pay attention to the map and follow the general direction of the arrow. You are also racing against the clock and are looking to get a low time. There isn't much else to say about this simple game. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Pursuit =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This game is slightly more difficult. You're meant to pursue a car and smash it off the road. Make sure that you follow and smash the car from behind. Going into the side is very risky because you could miss, get stuck and be left there as the car zooms off. Don't think you have to get it straight away. There is a time limit but bide your time and hit it along the straights not the turns or corners. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Survival =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is the hardest driving game. It isn't a case of seeing how quickly you can catch a car or get away from one. It is simply a test of how long you can stay on the road for. Weave in and out of things, change direction and find spots where you can't be reached. Mastering this one will take a while but if you use the three things I just mentioned to full effect you can last for quite a while. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Get Away =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is easy. Just weave in and out of objects and hopefully the cop car will get stuck or blocked by an object. Then whilst he wriggles to get free speed off round a corner or anywhere out of reach of the cop. Easy as pie. Although be careful not to attract the attention of too many cops. Be careful when you weave and don't destroy everything in your path. ===================================================================== 5: Cheats ===================================================================== Level Passwords --------------- There are some level passwords that help you access any level you want.
