Bestiary ============================Walkthrough============================ I. Introduction Welcome to my walkthrough for Dragon Warrior III Remix for GBC. This is the newest game from the Dragon Warrior series newly released by Enix for GBC. This game has a lot of additions than the NES version. It is more like the SNES Version of Dragon Quest III. The game lives up the hype that Enix and Japan put on it. Everything has been improved, but most of the story line stays the same, with a few additions that perfect the great story line. This game is a long and complicated one. Please be sure to get a lot of spare batteries! I went through 3 sets!!!! I will be adding some more to this walkthrough. The next update will consist of all the locations of the tiny medals. All items, monsters, and Gameshark codes. There are several changes from my previous walkthrough. * Complte Bonus Dungeon Guide * Monster Medal Collecting Guide * Complete Class Explenation with Experiance Chart * Complete Beastiary * Re-updated walkthrough correcting the mistakes from the previous walkthroughs II. They are rare items that you should start collecting now. In the end you will need 155 Bronze, Silver, & Gold. Don't try too hard now, unless you want to. ii. You cannot get Silver without getting some bronze, but you can still get bronze after you get silver, the same for Gold. d. Reeve i. This is a simple town with little people. Talk to them and you will hear info about the spring to the west and how it was blocked off. ii. The only way to open it is to get a Magic Bomb. The problem is the man who makes them is locked in his house with the Thief Key. iii. Get some new equipment at the Item Shop and Weapon Shop. The Sickle is a good weapon to get and the Turtle Armor is the best for the Mage currently. iv. Check the houses and rooms for any items; you never know what you find. If you find any items you do not need currently, but will later then put them in your Bag. 1. NOTE: You cannot access the Bag in battle! v. Go back outside and get to level 5+. vi. When you are ready just go south and enter the small odd-looking grass patch. vii. You can also go through the Promontory Cave, but I think this is faster. e. Najimi Tower; B1 i. When you first enter go straight around the water and down the stairs. From here go straight across passing your first right, a door blocks the area. ii. Go into the next area at the end of the hallway for your first chest. 32GP now go back out to the main hallway and go south, take the stairs right in front of you. f. Najimi Tower; 1st Floor i. If you want there are a couple of side chests you can get, if not skip down. Go across to the next section on the left of the screen then take the first right into the back of the tower. ii. The chest is to the left, grab it and go right and head up the stairs. 40 GP. h. Najimi Tower; 3rd Floor i. You are in a closed room, take the chest and head back down. i. Najimi Tower; 2nd Floor II i. Now go back to the main stairs you came out of in the beginning and go south. ii. Go all the way down the follow it to the right, ignore the alcove above you, and watch the sides, you can fall down. iii. Take the second alcove and the stairs up. j. Najimi Tower; 3rd Floor II i. There is one more chest here, it is located up, and then your first right. It is the second alcove on your right, but it is only a Warp Wing, so I wouldn't bother. ii. Instead take the first alcove and the stairs up the old man's room. Talk to him and you will get the Thief Key. iii. Don't rush out of here yet. Search the room and the bookcase you're a Cheat Book! iv. Open the door to the south and jump off the edge. Re enter the tower and go down into the basement again. k. Najimi Tower; B1 i. Now go north back the way you came and head up, and the right, open the door on the right side. 1. Wooden Hat 2. Agility Seed ii. Head outside and then the Aliahan. VIII. Opening New Doors & New Paths a. Aliahan i. Now that you have the new key head into the city and castle looking for new doors to open. ii. Now that you have the key open some more doors and ransack all of the draws and pots you can find. ii. Go to the house in the north east part of the village and talk to the man upstairs and he will present you with the Magic Bomb. IX. Travel to the New Continent a. Overworld; Aliahan i. Take some more time to get you are Level 7 and then head east and down past the center of the mountains. ii. When you see the shrine enter it and talk to the man there. Again ransack his home for items. iii. Go north into the spring and go around into the pit. b. Tempt Cave; B1 i. When you are here there are a couple of things you should remember. The monsters here are tough and could put you to sleep. It would be good for you to kill them for EXP and to stop them from putting you to sleep. ii. When you run, and do not make it out, you lose your turn and can get attacked freely by the monsters so take care when running, and be sure that running will give you less damage than fighting. iii. Ok from the entrance go south and use the Magic Bomb on the wall and run back. The wall will crash and allow you to enter. iv. Take the Chest for the Magic Map. It will tell you everything in the world that you have visited. Go down the stairs. c. Tempt Cave; B2 i. This room is riddled with pitfalls so watch you. If you fall you will be attacked at a faster rate. ii. Go up the main corridor and stop at the first line of the pit fall in front of you and take a right into the next alcove that goes around and behind this pitfall. iii. You can now go north to the top of the hallway. To your left is a chest with the antidote and the right leads to the next area. iv. When you take the right go around the corner and straight south. When you reach the bottom take a left, but stay to the top, there is a pitfall on the bottom. v. Once you pass the pitfall take your first chance to go up and then your left to get the chest with the Magic Knife. vi. Go back to the main hallway and go back up again, stop at the new pitfall and take a left to the next stairway. d. Tempt Cave; B3 i. Now you are in a room with 3 corridors, with 3 locked doors. Take the one to the west and down into the "Traveler's Gate". X. A Hero's Welcome & New Mission a. Overworld; Romaly i. Exit the shrine and head north to Castle Romaly. This castle has a lot of new weapons and armor and a mini-game. b. Romaly i. This city is bustling with action. Talk to the people and ransack the rooms for items. You can learn some great information from them. 1. A man named Kandar stole the King's crown. 2. The King has a great sense of humor. ii. Head into the Castle and take a quick look. The Magic Key has locked some of the doors; you will get that soon enough. iii. Head into the main throne room and talk to the king and his assistants. iv. He will save your game, like most of the other kings in the world, he will also ask you to find Kandar and return it to him, and he will dove you a great hero. v. Go back out to the city and go to the weapons shop, take the stairs down and enter the Monster Stadium, our first mini-game. c. Romaly; Monster Stadium I i. This is a place where you can get rich, or poor. Monsters here fight for your enjoyment. ii. They change depending on your level, as well as the prize money. iii. You can go to the counter on the left and you will pay a certain amount of money. iv. The # is the amount of money you get times your bet. 1. If you choose Slime 5.5 and your net was 60G your prize is 330G, if that monster wins. 2. If he loses you lose the money 3. If you win you get 5.5X the amount you paid. a. This one would be 330GP 4. You can re-bet the prize money and get even more money on the next match. Win and you get more, lose and you lose it all. XI. Quest for the Crown a. Overworld; Romaly i. Go outside and then head north. Along the way you will pass a shrine, but we will get to that in a minute. ii. Keep heading north and you should reach the village of Kazave. b. Kazave i. There is even more weapons and armor here for your warriors. ii. If you have a fighter there is some new armor and a great new weapon made especially for them. The Iron Claw. It will raise their attack greatly. iii. Some of the people talk about the Item Shop carrying a rare item called the Poison Needle. 1. It randomly kills an enemy instantly with the tip, not all of them and it happens at random. 2. To get it you can come back to the Item Shop at night and take it as well as a club from the chest. iv. The inn has some new draws to ransack, he he he he he......... v. There is a hidden entrance to the house in the northeast corner of the village. vi. Go to the top back part and try to find it. 1. Inside is a Fur Hood! vii. Talk with some of the people in the tavern and you will find that there is a town to the north that has been put to sleep by the elves, someone must save them. viii. In the NES Version you did this before you faced Kandar, but now it is easier to take care of Kandar first. c. Overworld; Kazave II i. Go south again and a little to the west and you should see a shrine. Welcome to the first Pachisi. ii. For how to play see Pachisi section. d. Pachisi Track; Romaly i. Go to the Alter and search the ground and you will get a free token. This track is the simpler of the two. You have 10 rolls of the dice. As a reward you get a Steel Sword and 500G. Jump down the pit after you get it. e. Overworld; Kazave i. If you are ready, stocked up on new weapons and leveled up so that the monsters pose no threat to you then you are ready to go the Shampane Tower. 1. I am usually around level 12 2. You can always tell when you are ready to move to the next area by seeing how easy it is to fight the monsters in your current location. f. Shampane Tower; 1st Floor i. The Shampane Tower is west of the Village of Kazave. Make sure you are ready enough to fight the monsters in this area. Bring a lot of herbs and antidotes with you. Put the extras in your bag. ii. You enter the tower on the east side, follow the corridor to the west and then head south. iii. If you want the chest of 430G then continue around the corner to the east side again and grab the chest. iv. Take the first right, and go down to find the stairs. g. Shampane Tower; 2nd Floor i. There are no chests on this floor. Go out of the alcove and head north, and then take the only alcove on the end of the tower. h. Shampane Tower; 3rd Floor i. There is one chest here and it contains a Bronze Shield. Go west and then north and then in to the alcove on your left. ii. The stairs are all the way around. Head back south and then north around the corner. Ignore the first alcove and take the next one. Watch the sides!!!! i. Shampane Tower; 4th Floor i. There is only one way to go here. Go south and enter the center area. Open the door and take the stairs. j. Shampane Tower; 5th Floor i. Here you will see two of Kandar's Henchmen. When you approach they run to tell Kandar. Go up the stairs to meet Kandar. k. Shampane Tower; 6th Floor i. Ok now you meet Kandar, and you will find he has a few tricks up his sleeve. He makes you fall down a trap door. l. Shampane Tower; 5th Floor i. You are back here, don't bother going back up, the chests are empty. Go out of this alcove and go to the East side of the wall. Here you will find Kandar. He attacks you. ii. Boss 1. Kandar a. Monster Medal #144 b. 300 HP 2. Goon a. Monster Medal #145 i. Kandar is a pretty powerful Boss right now. If your Mage has the Increase Spell use it constantly, don't worry about magic attacks. 1. This will raise your defense. ii. Have the Hero and any other fighting party members attack the henchmen first. Heal the party as needed. iii. After they are gone focus on Kandar and take him down. iii. Once he is defeated he begs to be let go, you have no choice but to set him free. iv. He gives you the Golden Crown in exchange. Jump off of the tower to exit. Head back to Romaly Castle. 1. If you didn't get a Monster Medal from Kandar don't worry, you can get Boss Medals later, but if you did you are VERY lucky. m. Romaly II i. Go straight to the King and he will thank you for returning the crown. As a reward he makes you King of the Castle of Romaly. ii. You can refuse, but it is useless to try. When you become King you can talk to anyone you want, but be sure to do the following: 1. Meet the Princess 2. Talk with the Shop owners. 3. Talk with the guards at the entrance to the castle 4. Visit the King's father in the tower of the castle. 5. Go to the Monster Stadium. iii. When you tire of being king find the old King in the Monster Stadium and he will change places back. iv. Before you depart he tells you that there is a village to the southeast and they have information on the Magic Key. XII. Sleepy Town of Noaniels a. Overworld; Noaniels i. Head north from Kazave until you reach a small town. The monsters get a little harder here, but if you leveled up you should have no problem. Beware the Ravens Attack 2X per turn. b. This cave is complex and has a lot of chests. There are several different ways to go. I will tell you the way with the most significant chests. If it is non- valuable item I may skip it. ii. Go straight south and the first alcove on the right has 288G. The next alcove on your right has a man in it so ignore it. iii. Keep going down and the alcove on the top has a Repellent in it, it is useless in a cave. iv. Going down you can take the left alcove, but there is a key item if you take the stairs at the very bottom. v. Go into the southern most alcove and take the stairs there. e. Noaniels Cave; B2 i. Just take the next set of stairs. f. Noaniels Cave; B3 i. Take the chest and get a Tiny Medal. Go to the next set of stairs, you will be taken back to B1. g. Noaniels Cave; B1 i. Now you are back to B1 and take the stairs right next to the ones you just came from. h. Noaniels Cave; B2 i. Ok there is a small spring here that will heal you when you step on it, so be sure to do so. It heals HP & MP. ii. After that go to the alcove on the right. You can take the next alcove on your left for the next staircase, or go north to get the chest on the right side with a Strength Seed! iii. If you get the seed go back to the stairs on the right side alcove. i. Noaniels Cave; B3 i. You should be in a new part of the dungeon. Go straight and ignore the stairs, they will lead you to the right area, but it is inaccessible. ii. Go back to the main passage and then take your next left, which takes you down another passage. iv. You can take the passage to the west and get 224G, or keep going down. The next eastern passage has a Leather Dress and the next staircase, but the alcove below it has a Token for the Pachisi game. v. Go back to the previous alcove and take the stairs down. j. Noaniels Cave; B4 i. This is it, the end. Go to the end of the path and across the bridge. Open the chest and you will find the Dream Ruby, along with a note. Return to the Elvenham and talk to the Queen. k. Elvenham; Hidden Village II i. Go to the Queen and give her the Ruby, she understands her mistake and is disappointed in herself. ii. It does not change her views on humans, but she will lift the curse on Noaniels. She gives you the Wake Dust. iii. The shop will still not sell to humans. What if you aren't human anymore? Hmmm... l. Noaniels; Uncursed i. Go back to the village and use the Wake Dust and the village slowly awakes. ii. It has many things here for you, including some new weapons and armor. ii. There is one shop that you must haggle the price, but in the end you can get it even cheaper somewhere else. iii. Overworld; Ashalam i. Follow the coast along to the west and you should find another shrine, a Pachisi Track! d. Pachisi; Ashalam i. This time there is a little twist in the track. You need to land on the Traveler's Gate in the back center area in order to reach the goal! ii. The rewards for this one are a Tiny Medal & Mace! e. Overworld; Ashalam i. Go west again and follow the coastline and then the mountain range. You enter the desert's mountain range until you make it to the shrine. ii. Inside you will meet a man, there is nothing in the room, and he will tell you that the Magic Key is in the Pyramid, but you should go to Isis first! f. Overworld; Isis i. Now go a little north and then west until you see an oasis with trees. ii. Go to the right side and enter the trees. 1. You will see a town and a castle. g. Isis City & Castle i. This town is a desert oasis. There are some excellent weapons and armor that will suit your party; you will need it for the pyramid. ii. A Holy Lance for your Cleric, an Iron Axe for the Hero & Warrior, Shears for the Warrior, and Iron Armor for all that can equip it. iii. There is a well in the center of the town with a chest at the bottom. iv. There isn't much here besides a new Monster Stadium, and the usual shops. v. Around this time your Hero should have learned the spell Recall. This is an important spell that will come in handy with the Pyramid. vi. You can remember conversations by pressing "Select" after a conversation with a person. vii. When you want to erase messages you can use the spell Forget, if you do not have it yet, it will come soon. viii. Now it is time to head into the Castle Isis. The castle has a deep secret that will help your party in the adventure to come. ix. When you enter the castle immediately move to the West. Follow the columns and enter at the break in the corner. x. Now go up and enter the door. Go down the stairs and keep going down until you reach a chest. xi. Open the Chest for the Starry Ring, but a Skeleton appears. If you tell the truth he will give the ring to you, but if you lie, he will apologize and leave. xii. Now go back through the way you came and enter the castle. You will find some great stuff here, but most of it is blocked off. You will need the Magic Key in order to open most of the chests. xiii. There are a few chests and bookshelves here so check them out. xiv. Go up the stairs and meet the Queen, she will save your quest. Talk to the other people in the room and they will give you some hints about the pyramid. 1. "The Pyramid has been raided many times. It has a curse on it so people cannot take certain treasures." 2. "There is a floor that Magic cannot be used." 3. "The way to find the Magic Key is in the children's nursery rhymes." 4. "There is a valuable item that no one has been able to get; it is in a hidden room. The item is the Golden Claw." xv. Now go to the east part of the room and talk to the kids. 1. "Round Buttons are Magic Buttons! Round Buttons Open a Door! From West of East to East of West, From West of West to East of West." xvi. Can you figure it out? No, wait for the answer later in my walkthrough. xvii. You can memorize it by pressing "Select". You can exit by jumping off of the edge from the left side. xviii. Do so after you save with the Queen of Isis. h. Overworld; Isis i. To get to the Pyramid you have to North of Isis. Make sure you have plenty of Herbs for the trip. You can store a lot in your bag, but it cannot be accessed from battle. Keep some on hand, but keep at least 30 in your Bag, if not more! i. Pyramid; 1st Floor i. There are tons of chests on this floor so grab them, but do not walk in the middle of the square. ii. Go straight up, but when you reach the open square with the passages left and right, do not walk in the middle, it will make you fall below, so walk on the edge and head north. iii. On the second one take a right into that passage and follow it to the stairs. j. Pyramid; 2nd Floor i. Ok there are a few options in the room, you can head for a Tiny Medal first, or you can go to the next floor for the Magic Key. ii. If you want the Tiny Medal go down one block and take a right, follow the path to the end and take the stairs to the 1st Floor, ignore the fist 2 chests in front of you, they are traps. iii. Head west to get the tiny medal and head back up. Go south to get the Instead, then head back to the top again. iv. From the Tiny Medal, go east one block and then down all of the way, head east to the stairs. v. If you skipped the Tiny Medal then head south 2 blocks from the stairs and then take a left. The take your first chance to go south. k. Pyramid; 3rd Floor i. This floor is where the Nursery Rhyme comes in handy. There are 4 buttons on the wall and you have to press them in a certain order to get the door to open the cavern with the Magic Key. ii. "Round Buttons are Magic Buttons! Round Buttons Open a Door! From West of East to East of West, From West of West to East of West." iii. This means go to the right side and then enter the first alcove and press the button. iv. Now go to the left side and enter the first alcove and press the left button. v. Now go to the right side and enter the last alcove and press that button. vi. Now go to the left side and enter the last alcove to press that button. vii. The door will open to the room where the Magic Key is kept. Take it along with the VitSeed. viii. Now you have a choice you can either head outside or go for more treasure! It is up to you.... ix. Go to the right side and up into the upper alcove, take the stairs to the next floor. l. Pyramid; 4th Floor i. This floor has a small trick to it. The 12 chests are cursed in the fact that if you try to take them you will have a fight with some Mummies and Mummy Men. You may want to do this later there are some seeds and items here you may want. ii. There are some important items that you could use, like some STRSeeds, and Ruby Bracelets, and a Tiny Medal. iii. You can head south and take the stairs to the next floor. m. Pyramid; 5th Floor i. This floor has only one chest and some stairs, take the Flashy Cloths and go up the stairs. n. Pyramid; Outside i. You are now on the outer part of the Pyramid. Just jump off and return to Isis. Save your game, get some more herbs as needed, get plenty you will now be in a room where Magic is blocked! o. Now you are in a room with sand and the bones of past grave robbers who never made it out. ii. There is a hidden stairwell in this room, but there are 2 problems. It is different than the NES Version, and you have to search the whole room! 1. Nah...I found it! iii. Go to the upper right corner and search the area in the middle with 2 skulls, go to the right one and down one step and search there. A set of stairs will open up. q. Pyramid; B2 i. This room is again, cursed, open the door and then head through the corridor. ii. Open the coffin and there is a great treasure, but it comes at a price. iii. The Golden Claw! When you try to leave it tells you that you are now cursed, but not literally. iv. As long as you hold the Golden Claw monsters will attack you constantly. v. Make sure you use the herbs after the battle. vi. Remember Magic is blocked in the basement of the Pyramid and you have to make it out of the Pyramid. If you die, then the Golden Claw is sent back to the Coffin and you have to try again. r. Isis Castle i. If you are lucky enough to make it out of the Pyramid alive, then you are fine, but when you re- enter the pyramid you are bombarded with attacks from monsters. s. CHEAT, CHEAT, CHEAT i. You can use the Pyramid as a way to get some levels up. Stay on the first floor and you are 4 times more likely to get attacked, which means you get their experience 4 times faster! ii. If you do not have a Fighter in your party you can sell it, it is worth 9,000G, but if you plan to change a person's class into a fighter when one of them gets to Level 20 I recommend keeping it. t. Isis Castle; Night i. Go back to the Castle at night and then enter the castle. The Queen has retired currently, but you can grab those chests on the first floor. ii. There is a cat near the entrance of the castle that will give you a warning. iii. Get the chests and head upstairs to the throne rooms. Aliahan Castle i. You can return here and get some chests in the castle treasury. XV. Quest for a Ship a. Overworld; Romaly i. This time head a little north off of the peninsula and then head west into the shrine there. ii. Open the door with the Magic Key and step on the traveler's gate. iii. It will take you to the other side and from here head south to Portoga. b. Portoga i. This is a castle city; you should be familiar with them by now. ii. This King here will not save your game. Talk to the townspeople and you should find that the King wants Pepper! iii. Go to the King's Castle and get the chests in the small room on the right. Then talk to the King, he will not save your game, the Duke will. He will give you a ship IF you can get him some Pepper. iv. He writes a letter to the Dwarf named Nourd that will make him open the path to the eastern continent. c. Overworld; Ashalam i. Go to the mountain cave that you passed when you first got here and talk to Nourd. ii. Be sure to take the chests! He will refuse to let your through so use the Letter and he will open the path for you. d. Overworld; Baharata i. There are two directions that you can go here. Far north will lead you to a hidden inn with information about two lost lovers, we will get to that later. Head south instead to Baharata. ii. It is a little south and then east. e. Baharata i. When you enter this town you can talk with some of the shopkeepers and people who live here. ii. Go to the south and head near the river, where people can bathe. iii. Talk with the old man and he will say that his daughter Tania has been kidnapped and he needs some one to save her. If you do not talk to him Kandar will not appear in the cave. iv. You are asked to take on the mission, but her lover, Gupta, refuses and heads off himself. The father asks you to make sure they both arrive home safely. They went to the cave in the northeast. v. You have to defeat Kandar the first time in order for this scene to happen and you MUST talk with the grandfather first before you head into the Baharata Cave in order for you to complete this part of the game, if you forgot, then head back. f. Baharata Cave i. This cave is very simple. There are many chests here, but some are Canniboxes. ii. The cave may be simple, but Kandar is no push over this time. Make sure you are around level 20. iii. When you enter go to the middle of the first area you are in, go north until you reach a door. iv. There are 2 chests in the room, the one on the left has 352G, but the one on the back middle wall is a Cannibox. v. Then go left to find another box with a Tiny Medal in it. vi. Go left to find 2 more chests. The one on the top wall is 132G, but the one on the left wall is another Cannibox. vii. Open the door and head straight south. Keep moving until you reach the door and the final chest for this floor with a VitSeed. viii. Go right until you reach the stairs and take them down. There are no more monsters in this part of the dungeon, but there is a room full of chests to the far west room locked with a door. 1. STRSeed 2. Life Acorn 3. INTSeed 4. AGLSeed ix. Take the path down an open the door. x. Some of Kandar's Henchmen will ask if you are interested in joining, say "Yes" and they will tell you to come back later and escort you out. Say No, then they will attack. xi. They are simple, basic attacks should dispatch them easily. xii. One they are dead head to the back of the room and you will find that both Tania & Gupta were caught. The switch to opens the doors are on the left side of the room. xiii. Follow them out and Kandar will show up. He is surprised to see you, but refuses to back down, he attack! xiv. Kandar 1. Monster Medal #155 2. 700 HP xv. Goon 1. Monster Medal #145 a. He is a lot tougher this time, but beatable. b. Use the same tactics as before, but now you can use magic that will attack a group and take the Henchman down at once. c. Once the Goons are gone then you can focus on Kandar. d. It will be a long battle, but keep casting Increase so his attacks will do little, and heal as necessary. e. Attack at will! xvi. Once Kandar is defeated he will ask for forgiveness one more time, you have no choice but to say yes, but he will actually clean up his act, for the most part. xvii. Cast Outside or exit the room and head back to Baharata. g. Baharata i. Go back to Baharata and then head to the Pepper Shop; it is near the entrance, the second counter down. Gupta will give you some Pepper for free. ii. Be sure to visit Tania and take advantage of the draws and pots through the town. h. Portoga i. Go back to Portoga and visit the King. Give him the Pepper and he will give you a ship! ii. You can get another Pepper from the Pepper Shop if you want it, but it is useless. iii. If your party is near the level 20 zone then do not go far with your ship, head back to the Dharma Temple, north of Baharata. You will want to take your new class of Sage with you to get raise their levels. XVI. The Changing of Classes! a. Overworld; Dharma i. Go north and follow the coast on the east from Baharata and you will arrive at the Dharma shrine. ii. This is the place for you to change your class, if you member is strong enough. b. Dharma i. There is a place for you to save your game when you enter, and an inn with a House of Healing upstairs to the right. ii. This is a great place to level up also. The monsters here are strong enough to give a good amount of EXP, but there is also the rare Metaly! iii. Metaly is a hard monster to beat. Your strongest warrior may only get a 1HP attack, but their max HP is 3-5! iv. You can dispatch him easily if you get an Excellent Shot! v. When you reach Level 20 your person is ready to change class if you wish. There are a couple of things you should know before you change a person's class. When a person changes class they start back at level 1! See the Class Section for more information about each one. vi. If they change class from a Magic user into another class that person stops learning spells, but keeps the ones they have already learned. The MPs are lowered also, and you do not gain them back if you turn into a non-magic class. vii. To get the sacred class of a Sage then you need the secret Zen Scroll. If you can obtain that then you can become a Sage. viii. The Zen Scroll is located in the Garuna Tower to the north. c. Garuna Tower; 1st Floor i. After you go north you can enter the tower. This tower is pretty big and there are a lot of stairs and Traveler's Gates. ii. The first set of stairs you need to be outside of the regular tower floor. Go straight across to the opposite end of the tower and then north outside onto the green grass and enter the small alcove and take the stairs. d. Garuna Tower; 2nd Floor i. From here go across the rope, watch the sides, and then take the stairs down. e. Garuna Tower; 1st Floor i. Go across the room and take the Traveler's Gate. It will transport you to the small cross section. ii. If you want the Tiny Medal take the north stairs. To head for the Zen Scroll, Take the stairs east stairs. iii. North Stairs; Just keep taking the stairs up and take the chest for the Tiny Medal. iv. Go back down and take the east stairs. f. Garuna Tower; 2nd Floor i. From here go south and take that set of stairs up until you reach the 5th floor. ii. You know you are there when you see the rope. g. Garuna Tower; 5th Floor i. Take the rope straight across and take the stairs up to get the Tiara for any female in your party. ii. Go back to the rope and walk to the middle of it. Take a leap of faith and jump off! h. Garuna Tower; 4th Floor i. This room is pretty empty just jump into the big pit in the middle of the room. You will fall to the middle of the 3rd Floor. Use the stairs to go to the second floor. i. Garuna Tower; 2nd Floor i. Take the chest to find the Zen Scroll!!!!!! ii. Fall down the pit and you are back on the first floor. Exit and head to the Dharma Temple. j. Dharma Temple i. The first thing you have to think of is who will be the sage. The most logical choice that I always do is your Mage. ii. Why? When you become a Sage you learn Cleric & Mage Spells, and you are able to equip a greater array of weapon and Armor. 1. The Cleric, if you have one, will learn some needed spells later in the game when it comes time to fight Baramos and if you turn them into a Sage it will take longer for you to learn them because his level will be lower than the rest. 2. In turn the Mage can learn some great attack spells early and make fighting other bosses easier, but it is your choice. 3. You can turn any member into a Sage, except Hero, and they will learn both Mage & Cleric Spells. 4. Also if you use a Mage then make sure they have learned the SnowStorm spell. This is key for when you fight the next Boss, the Orchi! 5. A quick note: You can have up to 3 Sages! A Jester can change into a Sage at level 20 and there is a second Zen Scroll in the game. It is located in Rimuldar! iii. When you are ready save your game and make a copy if you are testing a class out. iv. Head into the main part of the temple, and give the person you want to change to the class of Sage the Zen Scroll and talk to the priest. v. He will put a "ZAP" in your spirit and you are level 1 again. Now you will need to train this person a little, take them to the Overworld and have them fight some of the monsters with your party and they should gain several levels at each battle. vi. Make sure you re-equip your Sage with the weapons and armor and get some new weapons and armor for them. vii. They can equip more armor than the Cleric or Mage so go back to the town and see what you can buy to fit your Sage! XVIII. Extra Stuff a. Overworld Sea; Portoga i. Go back to Portoga. This will be the center for many of your quests right now. ii. Take the boat to the west and until you reach the next continent and then take the boat a little south. Enter the rivers that are there. iii. Follow it north and it is a small maze, but simple to navigate through and you should find a small Native Village of Soo. b. Soo i. This village has a very important item. The Bolt Staff. You may remember it from I&II. Use it as an item and it casts bolts through the air and attacks your enemy. ii. To get it walk to the well and search around it. You have to go at it from the side so you do not enter the well. There is the staff. iii. Now you can go down the well if you want and you will find info about the Dry Vase. iv. Talk to the Villager to get info and the Echo Flute. c. Merchant Village i. From Soo go back out of the river maze and go north following the coast. ii. You may have heard some people talk about the town in the grassy plains. This is your destination. Go north until you see a grass plain in the middle of some woods. iii. Talk to the man there and he says he is trying to start a town here, but the problem is he needs a merchant to build it. iv. He wants a Merchant, even a low level one, to start the village. If you have a merchant you want to part with, fine, or you can get one at Ruida's Tavern. v. Either choice of a low level or high-level merchant will not change the speed of the building of the town. vi. If you need one head back to Rudia's Tavern, create a new Merchant and name him or her and take them to the plains. The town will slowly change after each big even you complete. d. Muor i. Now that you have a ship you can speed around the world. There is a very important item that was left by Ortega in this town by him that you can pick up. ii. This town is not put on your Returns list. Follow the coast north from Dharma and you will see it near some snowy plains. iii. Enter it and start to talk to the people there. Go to the top of the town on the right side and enter merchant house. Talk to all of them and most seem to recognize you and call you Pokapa. Talk to more people and you learn that this is what they called Ortega. iv. A little boy loved him very much his name was Popota. v. Go around to the back of the merchant house and enter from the far right side. Take the stairs up and talk with the kids there. One is Popota, he will know you are from Aliahan and he wants to know how Ortega is doing, answer either way and then leave. vi. Before you leave the merchant will give you Ortega's Helmet. The one given to him when you where born. XIX. Quest for Final Key a. Overworld Sea; Portoga i. You can do several things right now, but I recommend getting the Final Key. You first need to get the Dry Vase. It is in the Castle of Edinbear. The only problem is that they will not allow just anyone, especially commoners, enter. ii. You should be in the area so you might as well go to it and just use the Return Spell to get there again. iii. Go north from Portoga and you should see an island with the castle and another small island on the left. b. Edinbear i. Enter it and try to pass, but the guards will not let you through, your "Yoakals". ii. You will need the Hide Herb to sneak past them. c. Overworld Sea; Aliahan i. Go to Aliahan and take the ship west until you reach a small island. ii. The Island has a town in the middle of it. There is also a Cave named Navel of the Earth, but you will get into this later. d. Lancel i. There are some great and expensive armor here, like the Iron Mask. It will fit your Warrior or Hero. ii. Go to the Item Shop and purchase a Hidden Herb for 300G! e. Edinbear i. Return to Edinbear and use the Hide Herb. Walk right past the guards and talk to some of the people there. They have some funny reactions while you are invisible. ii. Now you can visit the King and he will save your game, but with an attitude. iii. Now you need to get the Dry Vase. The thief took it here from Soo and they put it in the Vault. iv. The only problem is that you need to solve a puzzle first. You need to move all of the boulders onto the platform in the back. v. It is the same as in the NES Version. If you make a mistake then exit the room and re-enter, it will reset. vi. Boulder Puzzle. 1. Boulder 1 is on the left, Boulder is in the middle, and Boulder 3 is on the right. 2. Move Boulder 1 forward into the back wall. 3. Move Boulder 2 right, so it is next to Boulder 3. 4. Now walk around the water on the left and push Boulder 1 to the middle, but watch out for the water. 5. Now push Boulder 1 into the back platform. 6. Now go to the right and push Boulder 3 down one spot. 7. Now push Boulder 2 to the left next to the water. 8. Repeat 1-5, but for Boulder 2 9. Now go back to the back of the room and push Boulder 3 back to it's original place, just up 1. 10. Now go it the left and push it all of the way left until it reaches the water. 11. Repeat Steps 1-5, but for Boulder 3. 12. A door will open and you will have the Dry Vase. f. Overworld Sea; Aliahan i. Now that you have the Dry Vase then you are ready to get the Final Key. ii. Go back to Aliahan and follow the coast and around the cape. iii. From here go straight south, you should be off set from the Castle by about 5-6 steps, more close the Promontory Cave near Aliahan. iv. Keep heading south in a direct line until you find the shoals. v. Go to the front of them and use the Dry Vase. vi. Enter the temple and get the Final Key. vii. There is a treasure room in Romaly that needs the Final Key, take a quick stop there to collect the loot! viii. Dagger & Expel Shield XX. Quest for the Orbs; Green Orb a. Overworld Sea; Portoga i. This is why Portoga is the Port Town; it is the main point for many of your destinations by boat! ii. Head south and follow the coast and ignore the first river, it is blocked by a bridge, but the second right after it leads to Tedanki. b. Tedanki i. If it is daytime then the town seems deserted and torn down. The Demon Lord's Castle is not to far from here. ii. Walk around and go to the Jail. Talk to the corpse and you will find a note. He wanted to give his item away before he died? iii. Go to the shop on the left and take the stairs up and you will find a Dark Lamp. iv. Use it and the Day turns into Night. The town is now alive again! v. You can buy some great new weapons here. Like the Zombie Sword. You Sage or Cleric can even equip it. vi. Go to the back where you found the dead man before and open the jail door. He will give you the Green Orb. There are more throughout the world, 5 more to go! XXI. Quest for the Orbs; Echo Flute & Blue Orb a. Overworld Sea; Merchant Village i. If you want to do most of the game on your own, or get everything in the game, you can do the Arp Tower, but it is not needed. Inside this tower is the Echoing Flute. ii.
