I Challenge You! III ===========================Walkthrough======================== I. Introductions a. My Thoughts Well welcome to the return of Dragon Warrior. We have waited many years for the return of Enix and now they are back. This game is a remix of the first two games released for the DW/DQ series. There have been many changes in the dungeon structures and graphics. Even the game's basic options have been changed in some way. Please read through this walkthrough's Change sections and Game Play Instructions section for a update on how the game works. I plan on having some maps on my sight soon. They should be up no later than October 15th, 2000. I have updated the walkthrough to clean up the problems about Beran and Rhone. Http://www.DragonWarriorReturns.com b. Story The Kingdom of Alefgard had long been a realm of peace and prosperity. The kindhearted King Lorik easily upheld justice in a golden age. In Alefgard, the summers were long and plentiful, and the winters short. Monsters and other mystical beings of terror were unheard of. The Orb of Light was responsible for this wondrous time. Peace and well-being seemed to emanate from this magical object; and with it the people of Alefgard were able to enjoy life to it's fullest. However, as civilizations rise and fall, it seems that Alefgard was destined to do the same... Of all the people in Alefgard, it was said that there was only one man who wasn't satisfied. Angry and alone, this man lived in mountainous caves far away from civilization. One day, while exploring the dark dungeons of his refuge, he came upon a sleeping dragon. Perhaps it was through sorcery, or sheer luck, but the man found that he was able to control the dragon to do his will...and eventually even more beasts... From then on he became known as the DracoLord. The DracoLord's first show of power came in the form of a fiery attack on Tantegel Castle. The terrified citizens ran outside in just enough time to watch their dreams burn. With hardly any opposition, the DracoLord took possession of The Light Orb and left Tantegel castle aflame. The day after the attack, a man by the name of Loto approached a devastated King Lorik. Loto promised Lorik that he could help them... and after a hearty meal he took to the wilderness. Indeed Loto could help them. Shortly after his departure, stories came in to Tantegel of a man who was defeating the beasts, which had appeared and chasing them back into the wilds. However, once Loto set off on his final quest to destroy the DracoLord himself, nothing more was ever heard from him. Years passed, and the Kingdom suffered another attack by the DracoLord. This time King Lorik's daughter Lora was abducted. In the world of Dragon Warrior, you are Loto's descendant, and must follow in his footsteps. Princess Lora must be rescued, and the DracoLord must die. Your journey will take you across the various lands of Alefgard. Visit towns and gather information. Explore the dark dungeons and claim their treasures. The road to the DracoLord is paved with enemies, but you are the Dragon Warrior. c. Changes i. There have been several changes to the game as in storyline and game play. You can find out about the actual game option changes in the Play Instructions Section below. ii. Most of the game's play has been kept the same. The only major changes are with the names and graphics. iii. All of the towns have gone through some major renovations. They look a lot more graphic and nicer. iv. The names have also been changes for some of the characters and towns. They are now closer to the Japanese versions of the game. The main reason they changed the names wad because of the small screen for the GBC. Erdrick was just too big and took up too much space. I wasn't thrilled with the changes myself, but as you play the game you find that this was only a small part of it. A Rose By Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet! v. Name Changes 1. Erdrick a. Loto 2. Princess Gwaelin a. Princess Lora vi. Spells 1. Some spells have changes also, but look in the Spell Section. vii. Equipment Change 1. In the Original DW game you had to but a weapon or armor and sell the previous one while you bought it, if you found one on the ground you lost your previous one, but not anymore. 2. You now have the choice of equipping the weapons and armor yourself. viii. There have been several name changes for the towns also. ix. Caves 1. The format of some of the caves has also changed. This is noticeable in the games. 2. Some of them have had major changes that effect the game play. a. Swamp Cave i. This cave hold the Princess Lora, in the NES version you enter a section and you automatically fight the Dragon, but in the Remix version the Dragon can be seen sleeping with the princess in the background. 3. The caves are now changed in the format. This allows veteran players some challenge. I know that I was really excited that I got lost in a cave, it has been years since that happened. x. Howard & Nester! 1. Where are Howard and Nester! Oh my god they killed Nester! 2. It was bound to happen at one time folks. To my sadness they are gone from this game. 3. How do you get the information about the flute now? Well try visiting the lost couple in Rimuldar, they should help. d. Game Play Instructions i. With the new format there has been some changes on how the game is played. Here are the instructions: ii. King's Log 1. This is the first and best way to save your game. Just go to the king and he will record your save. He also informs you about your Experience Level status. 2. Here you can continue the game or stop. iii. Field Log Save 1. This is a perfect options for a portable system. If you are anywhere in the game you can save your game. The only place you cannot save is in a battle. 2. Alls you have to do is press the Start Button and do a Field Log Save. Once you do this the game saves and resets. 3. Once you return to the DW game you can re-open that log. Doing this erases the log. a. This means you cannot save your game in front the DracoLord or Dragon and keep replaying until you do actually beat him. iv. There are several options that you can use during the game. They are key and will be used often. v. Search 1. Press the A button. 2. This allows you to look on the ground for a hidden item or stair well. 3. There are items hidden in pots and drawers also, just stand in front of them to search. vi. Key 1. When you have a key walk up to the door and press the A button to open it. 2. Same for DW II, but you do not lose the key after you use it. vii. Other options can be accessed by pressing the B button. Once you do this a box will appear with several more options to choose from. Press the A button to choose the option. viii. Item 1. You can see what items you have in stock and use them by pressing the A button when they are selected. ix. Info 1. This will give you your Hero's status. Strength, HP, MP and Equipment. x. Cast 1. This allows you to cast any available spells that you can use in the Overworld or in dungeons. See Spells Section for list. xi. Eqpt. 1. This allows you to equip any items, weapons, and armor you may have acquired. e. Fight i. Now this is one of the most important parts of the game. The Fight scenes have been changed and have a more graphical background of the scenes has changed for DW I. ii. The basic fighting is the same. Attack, Flee for Run and Cast for Spell. f. Legend i. If you see a ; it can mean one of two things 1. That this is a sub section to the town or cave 2. Define the Remix name with the NES name. a. The Remix name is always first. g. Opening Scenes i. Once of the best upgrades for the games are the Opening Scenes. I will go into more detail for them when I start the beginning of each walkthrough. Let's just say they explain a lot for DW I. II. Opening Scene Tantegel Castle; Princess' Chambers A dragon comes and attacks the castle. Monsters overwhelm the Princess' Chamber and take her hostage. The dragon grabs the Light Orb and flies off into the night. III. First Blood a. Tantegel Castle i. You start in the King's Chamber. After his speech take the key and other items in the chest. ii. You will not have to fight any monsters here, all you have to do is find the Alter with Loto's Tablet. ii. The cave isn't too hard and this is a good way to practice. The directions below might get a bit hard to follow, but there are no monsters here, so take your time. iii. Light your Torch, now you can see a small square of the dungeon, thanks a lot! iv. Go down the corridor south, now go around the bend so you are now heading east v. Take your next turn south and do it again. vi.
