Ver Final note: I am updating this after 2 years just to make a few points clear 1) I will not be updating this ever again for any reasons whatsoever 2) This is a "Dungeoning" FAQ, I've received way too many e-mails asking me about the damn Marion and frankly, I'm a bit fed up. Read the faq at www.gamefaqs.com by TSchulze. 3) I played the Jap version so I got no idea what the US translations are, eg name changes etc Climax Landers Dungeoning FAQ By Jiexun Li ultima@mbox3.singnet.com.sg Version History --------------- Ver 1.0 (8 Oct 1999) : wrote the faq.(duh) Ver 1.02(9 Oct 1999) : corrected some glaring spelling mistakes I didn't notice before. Version Final (7 Jul 2001) : Added the note way on top First off, this faq is concerning dungeoning only, i.e where are the dungeons and what to do in a dungeon. I won't go into other details since someone else has done a great job off it already. Personally, I'd advise Gamers that don't understand the language to stay away from this game until the english version comes out, or you won't be doing this game justice. Final Test 10. Credits 11. Disclaimer 1. Jiexun's Theory Firstly, these are just theories I made up myself while playing the game They are not Bible Truth, so feel free to ignore them if you find your own way easier. Theories: I)Kill all the enemies. The dungoens are designed in such a way that you can easily defeat the enemies on the next level with ease as long as you kill all the enemies in one level. As a small rule, no enemie's physical attack should cause you more than 1 damage. If your level is too low, later enemies and the Boss will slaughter you. Level up until the boss can only do 1 damage(or 2 doesn't matter) to you. II)Search with caution. Searching causes your stomach to go hungry. Search sparingly. I discovered that orange areas around a bend, at cross roads and in rooms have the highest chance of having hidden items. III)Using healing houses. These are hard to come by in dungeons, so if you find one, kill all the enemies on the level first before using it. Unless of course you are down to critical health. IV)Fight with choice. This seems to contradict the first theory but let me explain, some enemies are plain crap, they earn you meagre EXP and are hard to fight. One typical example is a small pod like enemy, avoid it like the plague, they can do two things in one turn and have low hit probability. Plus most of them do funny things to you like cursing, damaging your items and giving you funny status. V)Fighting enemies. Always start with the one that can deal most damage, or those that can do funny stuff to you, like magicians and those pods. Choose a balance between damage and hit probability. This can be seen from the two numbers next to the picture of the enemy highlighted, top is hit probability and bottom is estimated damage. What do I mean by balance? If you have two skills, one does 50 damage but only hits 60% and the other does 1 damage with 99% accuracy. Which is the obvious choice? Of course, not all cases you encounter will be so easy to differentiate as there are other factors to consider. Some skills take longer to "charge" and enemies attack you first. VI)Characters. For me, the only 2 usable characters are Ryle and Sword. The others are crap. Rao has high attack but his speed is rock bottom. Call me a sexist but the female characters are absolute crap, just look at their stats.(Of course, I Could be wrong since I've never actually used them in a dungeon before) VII)Title. Your title changes from time to time, sort of like level ups. I don't know what are the conditions for 'title-ups' but you'll get them. What are they for? You see, everytime time you leave the dungeon, your level drops back to one and all your stats return to as before, but as your title 'title-up' your level 1 stats increase. So try to get your title as high as possible. When I completed the game, my level 1 stats was 55hp, 55vit and 25mp.Compared to when you first start the game at 30hp... I forgot the rest. VIII)Selling ornaments. Ornaments are those you can display in your house, SELL THEM. They don't do much good other than look nice. Sell them for big bucks to the transexual shop keeper at the shop on the same plate as downtown dungeon. 2. Clock Tower How to get there. When you wake up after opening the book, head outside the room.Continue down the walkway after a small cutscene. You'll see it immediately. Defeating This Dungeon. Clock Tower is a one time deal. Meaning you can only enter it once. This dungeon is fairly simple, no one should have a problem defeating it Fighting the Boss. The Boss is crap as long as you have follow Jiexun's Theory. 3. Volcano Cavern How to get there. After you exit the clock tower, and a cutscene and have stored all your items in your new house, head for the Z33 plate. It's to your right after exiting the house. A dog will be barking, when you go near it the next dungeon drops out of the sky literally. Head for the cavern and enter it. Defeating This Dungeon. This is again a simple dungeon. Just follow my theories. Fighting the Boss. This dungeon features one of the hardest Boss in the game. You can get 1 of 3 bosses depending on your luck. The brown and black ones are easy to defeat, the problem lies with the white one. It can regenerate its health. If you cannot do damage to it faster than it regenerates, reset the game. You have no hope of defeating it. High level of 18 to 19 is recommanded to fight this one. 4. King's Tomb How to get there. The most obscure dungeon. Head through the clock tower to the lower level and turn right. Head past Rao and walk along the perimeter walls and cross the bridge. You'll get a cutscene and then you can enter the dungeon. Defeating This Dungeon. This is the first time you'll encounter enemies that can spoil your items, armor and weapons alike. Very dangerous so be mentally prepared if your weapon gets damage and can't hurt a flea. Fighting The Boss. Another cheap-skate boss. A high level of 19 to 20 should be sufficent to defeat it with ease. Just use your best attacks. 5. Battle Forest How to get there. After many cutscenes, head to the battle forest plate and enter Rao's house. After a cutscene you gain control of Rao. My advice is, go back to Sword's house and change your character to Sword. There are 2 doors in Rao's house, 1 leads outside and the other leads to battle forest. Defeating This Dungeon. A fairly simple dungeon.Again, be wary of enemies that damage your items. Fighting The Boss The hardest boss ever. He can do 7 or 8 damage even at high level of 20. Any lower and he does 20 damage to you. By now, Sword should have his sommersault-slash and healing spell. If not, train up first in other dungeons.Keep using your sommersault slash and healing when necessary and you should be able to defeat this guy. 6. Shrine How to get there. When you return to your house, Ryle has recovered and you can use him now. Go through the clock tower to the lower level. A new dungeon has appeared, it's on your left when you exit the tower. Defeating This Dungeon. When entering it, you'll see Marlin going in but it has no impact on you. Just go in the dungeon. This dungeon suffers what I call 'lack of enemies'. Meaning there are too little enemies, making your leveling up process difficult. There's a large number of traps in here so beware. This dungeon has loads of special items, so come back often. I found the ring that allows you to transform into the mole you see on the cover of the CD case. It ups all, that's right, ALL of your stats. Plus you get a 'kinky' music while walking around. The drawback is that you can't gain levels while equipped with this. Your exp just accumulates, so when you have too much exp, unequip the ring and fight a battle and you'll get your level up. Fighting the boss. For the first time ever, you fight a boss, accompanied with 3 other enemies. Don't touch the boss first, kill the enemy with the heal spell as he can heal all of the enemies in his team. If your level is not high enough, you won't be able to kill it before it heals itself, while the boss and other 2 enemies pummel you with heavy attacks and magic. But fear not, there's a cheap trick you can use. Capture, that's right, the 3 enemies. For some reason, they can be captured. After that, the boss is easy to kill. Hit with best skill and heal when necessary. Extra-Note: You get a legendary wand after killing the boss 7. Downtown How to get there. After control is transfered to Marlin, go to the plate behind Sword's house. Not Battle Forest the other one. Sword will be there. After some cutscenes, change back to Sword again. A new plate will appear in the lower level. Walk straight down from the clock tower and you'll see it. The dungoen is the street in the centre. (Note: The transexual that allows you to sell ornaments is on this plate.) Defeating This Dungeon. A fairly simple dungeon.Again, be wary of enemies that damage your items. Fighting the Boss. This game is just full of cheap skate bosses. Just follow the hit and heal rule. Again, high level as always. 8. House of Dolls How to get there. It's behind the plate mentioned above. The one behind Sword's house. Defeating the dungeon. A fairly simple dungeon.Again, be wary of enemies that damage your items. The walls sometimes block your view. I find that particularly annoying. Fighting the boss. Is that Marion with the Boss? Yes! It is. Kill Marion first, then the other 2 normal enemies. The boss is the guy with a moustache and cane. Hit and heal. Extra-Note: You can't use Sword for this one, I used Ryle. 9. Final Test How to get there Go to the plate behind Sword's house and enter the cave After cut scenes, the plate behind Sword's house will transform into the last dungeon. Defeating this dungeon This dungeon has a very special and annoying design. It makes you run a very, very long way before you can find the next room. Meaning, they are trying to cause your satiety to go down. When your satiety goes to 0. Your HP decreses rapidly, so stock up with those fruits. Though there is a problem. Sword can only carry 4 items initially. I used all off them for equipment so I had a hard time trying to find fruits in the dungeon to heal my satiety. But other than that, it's an easy dungeon. Fighting the boss. The End-Boss is the lousiest boss in the whole game. It has 3 incarnations. Robot Form : An utter disgrace, killed it in 5 turns with sommersault slash. Devil Form : This one is slightly harder as it has 2 hands helping it(?)(you'll see what I mean) Kill the left hand first, then the main body and then the right hand. Devil Head : This one is easier than the 2nd form. But it can confuse you so be careful. I used the hit and heal rule for all the above forms. Neither form should do more than 1 damage to you, except for magic attacks. If I can do it, so can you. This boss gives you zero, that's right, ZERO, EXP. >:( The End... Or is it?
