Introduction and Version History Introduction ============ Well, here we go. This first release is just to get the bare minimum out there so you can start playing. Pretty much all the important menus are translated, along with mini-game instructions and a three full move lists. Much, much, much more to come, as you might expect. Only one real secret revealed so far, but it's a good start, I think. Did I mention that I love giant robots? And I really like the Blodia II. I own both home versions of Cyberbots, so I think it's just way cool to have Jin back in a great big robot where he belongs. Well, I've completely beaten the game to death, I believe. I've beat Hero Challenge mode with the eight hero robots and traversed every single route in Story Mode. I don't think there's anything left to do, although it seems very strange that there's still no way to play as the three boss robots, even in Versus mode. With the US release of the game slated for April, I won't be doing the Story Mode translations. My Japanese isn't very good anyway, so they probably wouldn't be that great after all. FAQ Status ========== Missing Pieces: Unlock method for three boss robots (if it exists) Move Lists for the boss robots (see above) Title Song Lyrics - Main Verses Additional Tips and Strategies Descriptions for all moves in move list Differences between Home/Arcade and US/Japan versions Version History =============== V0.10 (1/14/00): First release. Menu Translations, Universal Moves, 3 Robot Move Lists, 2 Techno Dome options, and 1 Mini Game. V0.15 (1/14/00): Added Bolon, Rafaga, and Diana move lists to make 6 total. V0.20 (1/14/00): Added Wise Duck, Twinzen V, and Gourai to complete move lists for the 9 initially playable characters. Time to tackle Story Mode now. V0.25 (1/15/00): Added Kikiaoh and Wise Duck's Story Mode Paths to make 2/11. V0.30 (1/15/00): Added part of Twinzen V's and Nakato (Dixen)'s Story Mode paths, added information about the second Mini-game, and unlocked five more Techno Dome options. V0.35 (1/15/00): I am offically addicted to this game. Big update, lots more Story Mode stuff, third mini-game, all Techno Dome options known, chorus of the title song transcribed and translated. V0.40 (1/16/00): Added more informatiom about Hero Challenge mode, unlocked more secret Boxes and characters (including Jin!), and a few more items. V0.45 (1/16/00): Unlocked all secret boxes, added more Mini-Game strategies, added Gameplay Basics and the first Tip. 67KB in two days. This is looking to easily be my biggest guide so far, wow! V0.50 (1/16/00): Added move lists for the Techno Dome unlock characters (the four unlocked variants and Blodia II), added the first 12 Picture Box puzzles, and one more Story Mode route. V0.55 (1/17/00): Completed all Story Mode paths, as well as the Picture Box. The game appears to be completely beaten at this point, except for that Password thing. Hmmm... V0.60 (3/10/00): The mystery of the Puzzle Mode password has been solved! See the appropriate section of the Tatsumi Techno Dome section for details. =============================================================================== II. Gameplay Basics Damage and Armor ================ Each robot has a vertical damage bar on their side of the screen. When it fills up, that robot is downed, and the round is over. Damage is inflicted by enemy attacks, although it can be repaired by special items found in the stage (see the Items section for more detail). As you take damage, a portion of the damage bar will fill with green (showing the total damage taken), and then that green section will be filled from the bottom with red damage and from the top with yellow damage, depending on the attack that hit you. Red damage is unrepairable, and yellow damage will slowly heal over time. However, yellow damage will count towards a knockdown and the Final Attack ability, so it's just as bad as red damage in that respect. Each robot also has an armor gauge, displayed towards the bottom of the screen. Armor softens the damage delivered by enemy attacks, but is depleted as you guard blows and take hits. When your armor is knocked down to 0%, a message flashes on the screen and you are automatically blown back (whether you blocked the enemy attack or not). The less armor you have, the more damaging the enemy's attacks will be. Armor can also be repaired by special items found in the stage. Time Gauges =========== At the top of the screen is a timer which counts down through the round. If time runs out, the match is over and the robot with less total damage will win the match. In certain Story Mode battles, a "Time Attack" timer will appear at the bottom of the screen. Beating the opponent before this timer counts down may affect the path you take through Story Mode. Basic Attacks ============= Each robot has several basic attacks, activated by the (A) and (B) buttons. The (A) attack is usually a light, fast attack, and the (B) attack is somewhat slower. The (A) attack is the primary melee attack, and can always be used in quick succession for a melee combo if you are close enough to the opponent (i.e. (A), (A), (A) for a quick 3-hit combo). On some robots, the (A) attack also automatically changes depending on whether or not you are in melee range. For example, Kikiaoh up close will throw a Kikiaoh Punch, but at anything but close range will perform a Rocket Blow. The (B) attack is a slower melee attack, and is set either for a missile or bomb, although it acts as an additional melee attack for some robots (i.e. Pulsion's Sliding attack). (A) and (B) pressed together form the third attack, usually a beam weapon. Special Moves ============= Special Moves (listed in red in the instruction manual) range from melee combo attacks to beam weapons and everything in between. Each robot has a wide variety of Special Moves used to attack the opponent, and they tend to cause more damage than the basic attacks. There are several regular motions for special moves, such as forward and an attack button, backward and an attack button, and foward -> back plus attack. These moves are outlined in each robot's move list below. Extra Moves =========== These are extra attacks, many with motions like that of the Special Moves. Listed in yellow in the instruction manual, these moves are usually variations of the Special or Basic moves. Super Moves =========== Each robot has a Super Move gauge at the bottom of the screen that can stock up to three moves. The gauge is built up by attacking and being attacked, and it tends to fill up rather quickly. Super Moves are usually very damaging, but leave your robot wide open to attack should they miss. To perform a super move, simply perform the motion listed in the robot's move list (most are F, B + (A) + (B) or B, F + (A) + (B), although there are a few variations. Final Attack ============ When your opponent has no more "downs" left (i.e. another victory will end the stage), and they are hit for 50% damage (yellow damage included), a red and yellow sign will appear beneath your robot's name at the top of the screen, and a warning siren will sound, indicating that the Final Attack is now available. To activate the Final Attack, press all four regular buttons at the same time, (A) + (B) + (J) + (G). If successful, your robot will perform an elaborate attack on the enemy and win the match, completely destroying the other robot. Final Attacks can be blocked, and most have a start-up time, and if your Final Attack hits a robot that is lying down on the ground, it will not connect. Dodge Attack ============ The dodge attack is activated by pressing (A) and (G) or (B) and (G) together at the same time. In this move, your robot will circle around the opponent and then fire the basic (A) or (B) attack, depending on which button you pressed. This move is great for side-stepping beam attacks and even Super moves. Steel Dash ========== The Steel Dash is activated by holding down the (G) button and pressing the joystick twice towards your opponent quickly. After a short delay (during which you are vulnerable), your robot will rush towards the opponent, surrounded by a blue light. While dashing, you will dash through most missile attacks (taking damage as you go) without stopping. If you connect with your opponent, it will be stunned for a second, giving you a free attack. Power Break =========== The Power Break is activated by holding pressing the (G) + (A) + (B) buttons at the same time. After a short pause, your robot will execute a close swing at the opponent. This attack will break through your opponent's guard and leave them momentarily stunned as you automatically follow-up with an attack. Items ===== There are several types of items throughout the stage, which can be picked up after destroying buildings and objects, or stolen from your opponent on a knock-down attack. All but one of the items must be activated to use it by pressing (A) + (B) + (J). If you have more than one item (you start each match with three), you can select between them with the Item Select button. There are ten types of items available in the game, and all but three must be activated in order to use them. Offense Up: An orange pyramid with "Pow" on it, activating this item will increase the damage your attacks cause. Defense Up: A purple pyramid with "Df" on it, activating this item will decrease the damage enemy attacks cause you. Speed Up: A blue pyramid with "S" on it, activating this item will speed up your robot's movements and attacks. Hero Mode: A flashing pyramid with "Pow" on it, activating this item will send your robot into Hero Mode (see below for more details). Repair: A white box with a red cross, picking up this item will repair a portion of your robot's damage. Special Up: A white box with a red E on it, picking up this item will increase your Super Move gauge one level. Armor Repair: A white box with a red man on it, picking up this item will fully repair your robot's armor. Power-Ups: Diamonds in blue, red, and yellow, these three items, when activated, will unleash a special attack against the enemy. See each robot's move list for more information. Hero Mode ========= After picking up and activating the Hero Mode item, your robot will be in Hero Mode for several seconds. During this time, your robot will gain additional abilities and attacks. See each robot's move list for more information about what Hero Mode does for a particular robot. =============================================================================== III. Tips and Strategies Using your Final Attack ======================= Keep in mind that every Final Attack has a start-up time, and they can always be blocked. If you have a robot with a slow start-up, it's almost impossible to get the Final Attack to connect on a counter. One sure way to connect with the Final Attack is to use it as a follow-up to a Steel Dash. By timing your Steel Dash after as a counter to your opponent's attack, you can end the match quickly and painfully. =============================================================================== IV. The (START) button, once the game had actually started, was used for Item Select. Mini-Games Mini-Game Menu ============== On the mini-game menu, there are four options (starting with the first): Mini-Game High Scores G Point Total Sound On/Off Love & Punch ============ The first mini-game you can download, Love & Punch is a relatively simple exercise in face recognition. The Rules: For 30 seconds, two faces will appear and dissapear on each side of the VMU screen. If you see any character other than Junpei, press the button corresponding to that side (A for left, B for right) to Punch! If you see Junpei, press the D-Pad towards that side to Love! You earn or lose points depending on how long the character was on the screen, and whether or not you chose the correct action. Points: When a character first appears, they have a value of 300 points. This decreases as the character moves, from 200 to 100 to 50 to 10. If you choose the correct action, you gain points, and you lose points for the incorrect action. G Points: Depending on your score, you gain the following G points: - 0 : 0G 10 - 1000 : 250G 1010 - 2000 : 500G 2010 - 3000 : 750G 3010 - 4000 : 1000G 4010 - 5000 : 1250G 5010 - 6000 : 1500G 6010 - : 1750G Mugen Gattai (Dream Combination) ================================ In this game, you pilot one half of Twinzen V. Use the D-Pad to avoid the rockets and bombs in your path, and press the A button to thrust faster for a brief period. As you travel, you'll eventually meet up with the other half (another spaceship like yours). Dock with the other ship to gain G points! The amount of points you receive is dependent on the Stage you are playing and the level of the gauge on the right of the screen (which is constantly moving). If you crash in to one of the three types of missiles, you lose a ship. Lose three ships, and the game is over. There are five levels, and if you complete the fifth you gain a 5000G bonus! Here's a score table that should give you some idea of how many points to expect. Feel free to help me fill in the blanks if you play! 0 9 18 27 36 45 54 63 72 81 90 100 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Stage 1 ? 50 100 ? ? 250 300 350 400 450 500 1000 Stage 2 50 100 200 ? 400 500 ? ? ? 900 1000 1500 Stage 3 80 250 400 550 ? ? ? ? ? ? 1500 2000 Stage 4 150 200 ? ? ? ? ? ? 1600 1800 2000 2500 Stage 5 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 2000 2250 2500 3000 As you can see, this game will allow you to earn G points _much_ faster than Love & Punch! Hints & Tips: - Keep pressing the A button. The faster you go, the faster you get to your ship, and the fewer obstacles get thrown at you. - If you hit the side of the other ship, you die. - If you pass by the other ship, you die. - Want an easy way to always meet the ship near 100%? At the beginning of the level, wait until the gauge goes all the way up, and then down half-way. Hit the A button and keep pounding it to go at full speed, and you'll hit the other ship at a high gauge! - The levels are not random! There are distinct patterns to each one! Stage Patterns: Note that these patterns only work if you follow my above advice: Wait for the gauge to go all the way up, then back down to 50% before hitting A and continually hitting A through the level until you dock. Stage 1: Move towards the left (4/5 the way to the edge) to miss the first bomb, then stay towards the center and then dodge slightly as necessary. Stage 2: Same as stage one, but a bit more dodging from center is required. Stage 3: Get 4/5 of the way to the right for the first two missiles, 2/3 right for the next two on the right, then 4/5 for the next two on the left, then dock center. Stage 4: Get all the way to the left for the first four missiles, then move center and dodge for a bit before docking. Stage 5: Get all the way to the left for the first three missiles, then move center and wait to dock. Janken Fight ============ Yes, it's that classic game, "Guu, Choki, Pa"! Or, as you probably know it, Rock, Paper, Scissors. Of course, it's actually been made slightly more complex than the game you know and love. Choose your level: Junpei (3 points) Seiten (5 points) Gonzales (8 points) Controls: D-Pad Up: Guu (Rock) D-Pad Right: Choki (Scissors) D-Pad Down: Pa (Paper) D-Pad Left: Ui (Horns?) A Button: Kougeki (Attack) B Button: Guard (Guard) At the beginning of each "turn", you should choose Guu, Choki, or Pa with the D-Pad. Standard rules apply: Rock beats Scissors Scissors beats Paper Paper beats Rock Ui: no idea so far, but only 1 allowed per game Now, here's the twist. If you "win", you must press the A button to attack your opponent. If you "lose", press B to guard. If you successfully attack your opponent after a win, he loses a point, and vice versa. If you attack your opponent after a loss (and he doesn't guard), you lose a point. If you knock out your opponent first, you win! If you don't, you lose. Simple. Scoring per win (for the first three games, anyway): Junpei 1650G Seiten 1350G Gonzales 900G =============================================================================== X.
